What Has ALLAH Got To Do With The MOON? by efficiencie(m): 12:38pm On Apr 05, 2015
The crescent moon is a familiar emblem associated with Islam and I find this interesting.

Allah is said to be from the word Al'Ilah, a title for the Moon god and that the deity was a popular one in ancient Sumeria with ample archeological evidence to support this!

The Ramadan fasting period is expected to vary between June 17 and July 17 (with variations ofcourse) and this period going by the Zodiac falls in the cancer constellation which according to astrologers is heavily influenced by the Moon!

It appears the Moon is strongly connected to Islam...can Islamic apologists and critics shed more light on this?

The Bible says that "the sun of righteousness shall arise with healing in His wings."... for those who believe in His Name.
The moon (and islam) doesn't produce light but takes or "steals" that produced by the sun.
Islam is full of plagiarism and copying of Christianity!
Its a wannabe ideology!

Which one is 'Muslim Apologist'? Dumb phrase.

The Quran says: "And from among His Signs are the night and the day, and the sun and the moon. Prostrate not to the sun nor to the moon, but prostrate to Allah Who created them, if you really worship Him." (sura 41 Fussilat :37).

The crescent moon symbol is a worthless innovation introduced by the Ottomans; 8 or 9 centuries after the death of the Prophet (saw), and was likely copied from the governments of Constantinople; where it was previously in use on flags etc. It was initially used as a State symbol; like the Jewish 'Star of David'; and has no background in the sources of Islam... the Qur'an and the hadith; and the early Muslims; the Salaf; would not recognize it as anything to do with Islam. The only connection that Islamic practices have to do with the moon is as a timer for ascertaining the commencement of the lunar month.

In another verse, “They ask you, [O Muhammad], about the new moons. Say, ‘They are measurements of time for the people and for Hajj.’” (sura 2 al-Baqara:189)

As for the oft-repeated 'moon god' lie, I take your assertion to mean that arab xtians and Jews also worshipped the so-called pagan moon god; even before the advent of the prophet (saw). Because they too had no other name for God than Allah... and still don't.

Well sir, if your response above is anything to go by, then I'd like to ask:

1. Why has the use of the crescent moon by the Muslims as an emblem of Islam endured till this day with little or no repudiation of it's use and association with Islamic scholars, architects and adherents!?

2. Why is the Ramadam period conspicuously celebrated at a point in time of the year where the Moon's, psychic and spiritual influence is greatest as noted by Astrologers?

3. Why do governments of Islamic countries maintained consistent respect for the crescent moon as seen in their flags? See http://islam.about.com/od/muslimcountries/ig/Crescent-Moon-Flags/

1. Not all Muslims take it as an emblem. Most Muslims just see it as an acceptably harmless symbol that has no significance spiritually; like the date palm and two crossed swords symbol on the Saudi flag. Some Muslims do not like its presence; but do not consider it important enough to create differences over.

2. Ramadhan is a month in the Lunar year. Many cultures use Lunar calendars, in the same way that Jewish feasts like Passover is held in Nisan (they use the moon to ascertain it), and the month of Ramadhan (9th month) is just the month set aside for fasting. It could have been any month, just as the month of Hajj is the month called zhul-Hijjah. Islam prohibits asrology... in fact, any and all forms of predictive arts and fortune telling; so I do not know what you mean by spiritual or psychic influence. The new moon is traditionally the beginning of the lunar month, and it is this moon that Muslims look for to ascertain when the month of Ramadhan will start.

3. I assume that it is because the symbol has become to be associated with Islam that they use it to connote that the nation has an Islamic tradition, rather the way that many xtian nations use the crucifix and Israel uses the star of David. There is no issue of special acts of worship or respect as you seem to imply.
