The palace of the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has issued a statement, clarifying the Oba’s statement when Igbo leaders in Lagos visited him on Sunday.
Read full statement below.

THE PALACE MAKES FURTHER CLARIFICATION ON THE STATEMENT BY THE OBA OF LAGOS.
‎My attention has been drawn to a publication in a national newspaper where HRM Oba Riliwanu Akinolu was alleged to have threatened Igbos in Lagos to make them vote for Ambode.

Last Sunday, all honorary Eze Ndigbos in Lagos paid a courtesy call to HRM Oba Akinolu. At the meeting the visitors praised the Oba for his fatherly support for and cooperation with Igbos in. Lagos. They assured him of their continued good neighborliness with other tribes in Lagos and support everything that’ll further strengthen that harmony.

Oba Akiolu on his part acknowledged the enviable performance of Governor Fashola and his contribution to the growth of investments in Lagos. He gave the assurance that he is not disturbed or angry with South-East and South- South votes for President Jonathan as perceived by the Eze Ndigbos. The Obas thereafter called on the Igbos chiefs to show appreciation to Lagos State by supporting his candidate Mr. Ambode for continuity of excellence as they have earlier promised.
He assured them of his continued support‎ and assistance where needed and the meeting ended with the traditional breaking of kolas, alligator pepper, and bitter kola and pouring of liberation on the ground. It was within this context that that the tradition of Lagos with regard to the lagoon came up. It was noted that whoever works against the throne and the interest and peaceful co-existence of Lagos would end up in the lagoon as per tradition.

2.Oba Akiolu stated further that the Igbo people have not betrayed the throne. Lagos has also not betrayed the Igbo people. Lagos has done so much to make the Igbos comfortable and to prosper. For this, we expect reciprocal respect and understanding. The Oba of Lagos prays that the Lagoon and the throne will continue to bless and protect all those who reside and visit Lagos.

3. Oba Akiolu is the father of all irrespective of tribe, religion or political persuasion. In Lagos, we have an old traditional proverb that relates to the Lagoon. The Lagoon is unique to Lagos. The proverb stresses the need for unity and understanding when you do business in an environment and in this case when you live and do business in Lagos.
Oba Akiolu prays for peace for the land of Lagos and prosperity for all its inhabitants.

@bolded...How do you work against Lagos? Is it by voting democratically as per your inclinations(whether right or wrong) or by insinuating violence by your words and action?

Whatever tribe you're from, you should vote for the candidate of your choice. If the Oba wants everybody to align themselves with his political beliefs and ideology, Lagos should breakout of Nigeria and institute a Dictatorial form of government with only one party where all residents by the Oba's decree will support one person.

You claim to be the father of Lagos, but you're openly campaigning against one of your sons. What about the over 600,000 votes PDP got in the presidential elections? Do you think they are only Igbos? Do you know how many of your kinsmen that are part of that figure?

As long as Lagos is still a part of The Federal Republic of Nigeria, everybody should cast their vote wherever they feel like.

The Oba of Lagos as a public figure should be aware that every of his utterances will be dissected and viewed from multiple perspective and as such should not be partisan to avoid any damage control(like this publication) which didn't even do any control but added to the damage.

Please vote for whoever you want to lead you. Be it APC or PDP. Just be humble and civil enough to accept the result and work with the government for a better state and country. Not just for us but for the generations unborn.

#voteFreely #NoViolence #GodBlessNigeria

Yes Oba made the statement, what will happen.

It is either you live with it or you go back to the gully eroded land of setting sun.

He is on his land and can say and do as he likes.

With or without your vote, Ambode will be the governor.

JK is still our son and you will forever be foreigners and shall be dealt with accordingly.

I thought you are 80% of Lagos, you can as well march to the Oba's palace and demand for his dethronement. I doubt if any of you will return back to your enclave alive.

However, we are expecting your usual whining, shameless, lame, pathetic and emotional ultimatum.

I read your post and immediately felt throwing up. My wife is Yoruba and i am Ibo, I love her so much but when I read posts like these i grow so much hatred for your tribe and pray it doesn't affect me negatively. i live with your kinsmen here in the East, and threat all of them alike. it is enough that we FEEL your tribe to be two-facet beings but to opening pronounce your hatred for us is evil in its sense. shame to people like you who still exist, and give your tribe a bad name and probably go to either church or mosque to worship a God you don't know. but i perceive you are in your teens and could be myopic

Very Important:
Eko'o onibaje e. On the 2nd January 2015, I saw a vision of a big problem in the land, but none could help out. As all were contemplating over who would handle it, I heard Ifeanyi Agbaje. I further enquired and realised they were Ifeanyi Okowa (of Delta State) and Jimi Agbaje (of Lagos state) could solve these problems. I don't know them personally, but I hereby implore all concerned state indigens to pls Vote for them. God bless you all.

See how they twisted the whole things, but I will only vote for Jimmy, I'm very tired of tinubu controlling Lagos.

For your information, APC has a flat somewhere in Lekki, that has over 100 computers, they employ some young boys and men they are always online commenting in every social media, they are paid daily.

There is also day and night shift. Please ignore the online propaganda, it's another way of influencing voters.

Seriously the Igbos should not allow themselves to be used as a political tool in the hand of the politicians.

Will Agbaje abandon his Yoruba heritage or even the Oba of Lagos in solidarity with his Igbo supporters should in case he defeat Ambode? I can't see that happening because instead he will rather settle his differences with the monarch while the Igbo populations will be left to lick their wounds.

The Igbos should play their politics with decorium without been seen as antagonizing their host communities or putting themselves in an unfriendly position with the other inhabitants of Lagos.

Let the drummers of war becareful.
this statement is not only the most sensible but the best so far.

Let's not always jump into conclusion of matters but also think tritically before passing our judgments.
