why don't i believe this? The first statement released sounds more like what the Oba really said.

And i don't understand some of you yorubas.

How do you cope with such enormous hatred for a particular tribe!

That is why they( Hausas) kill the Ndigbos in the North at will...coz they don't know when to adjust the senses when it comes sensitive issues like this... Even in SA... Their gragra is just too much...

The hatred I see here is at the least alarming. What kind of people are we? I am Igbo and I live in Lagos. Let me remind anyone including the Oba that I owe my presence to no one. I am a citizen of Nigeria and Lagos. I am not an immigrant anywhere in my own country. It is my right as much as it is the right of every Nigerian.

KazeemDiary:
The palace of the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has issued a statement, clarifying the Oba’s statement when Igbo leaders in Lagos visited him on Sunday.
Read full statement below.

THE PALACE MAKES FURTHER CLARIFICATION ON THE STATEMENT BY THE OBA OF LAGOS.
‎My attention has been drawn to a publication in a national newspaper where HRM Oba Riliwanu Akinolu was alleged to have threatened Igbos in Lagos to make them vote for Ambode.

Last Sunday, all honorary Eze Ndigbos in Lagos paid a courtesy call to HRM Oba Akinolu. At the meeting the visitors praised the Oba for his fatherly support for and cooperation with Igbos in. Lagos. They assured him of their continued good neighborliness with other tribes in Lagos and support everything that’ll further strengthen that harmony.

Oba Akiolu on his part acknowledged the enviable performance of Governor Fashola and his contribution to the growth of investments in Lagos. He gave the assurance that he is not disturbed or angry with South-East and South- South votes for President Jonathan as perceived by the Eze Ndigbos. The Obas thereafter called on the Igbos chiefs to show appreciation to Lagos State by supporting his candidate Mr. Ambode for continuity of excellence as they have earlier promised.
He assured them of his continued support‎ and assistance where needed and the meeting ended with the traditional breaking of kolas, alligator pepper, and bitter kola and pouring of liberation on the ground. It was within this context that that the tradition of Lagos with regard to the lagoon came up. It was noted that whoever works against the throne and the interest and peaceful co-existence of Lagos would end up in the lagoon as per tradition.

2.Oba Akiolu stated further that the Igbo people have not betrayed the throne. Lagos has also not betrayed the Igbo people. Lagos has done so much to make the Igbos comfortable and to prosper. For this, we expect reciprocal respect and understanding. The Oba of Lagos prays that the Lagoon and the throne will continue to bless and protect all those who reside and visit Lagos.

3. Oba Akiolu is the father of all irrespective of tribe, religion or political persuasion. In Lagos, we have an old traditional proverb that relates to the Lagoon. The Lagoon is unique to Lagos. The proverb stresses the need for unity and understanding when you do business in an environment and in this case when you live and do business in Lagos.
Oba Akiolu prays for peace for the land of Lagos and prosperity for all its inhabitants.
Signed: Chief Lateef Aderibigbe Ajose, Opeluwa of Lagos

Why this much intimidation. If a candidate is not popular, let the one acceptable win the election. Why would an Oba allow his stool to be so used. Jimi is also a Yoruba man.
NOW WHAT IF ALL THE IGBOS REFUSE TO VOTE FOR ANYONE & JIMI AGBAJE STILL WINS...
He should be a father to all and not to one.
How much is he even paid or promised.
What if Jimi wins and he gets twice as much?

This shear intimidation.

It means if Agbaje wins, the blame would be on the Igbos. If that happens, igbos would start disappearing mysteriously and end in the lagoon.

How can this man claim to be a father to everyone irrespective of political affiliation while at the same time asking his visitors to vote his candidate with a veiled threat that the lagoon would swallow up those who didn't.

What nonsense... This is the sort of incoherent, dishonest, childish utterance that make people like me disrespect the so called elders.

Why not ask Agbaje not to contest? Why don't you guys channel your angers towards Agbaje?. Apc should address the grievances that would make people not vote for them and correct it. Threats don't work. They might end up persecuting the wrong people out of hate and paranoia.

You simply don't force people to vote you.

I don't understand why some yorubas should direct all their foes and misfortunes to igbos. I mean, and this people claim to be the most educated, civil and all that. Common.
I used to have great respect for the yorubas and the yoruba tribe but not anymore. Really disappointed.

I didn't want to dash of and react to the alleged caustic statement of His Royal Majesty, the Oba of Lagos, owing to deepest respect for traditional instuition and the profound respect my yoruba brothers and sisters have for their monarch.

The Oba was quoted to have said any Igbo who voted for Jimi Agbaje would die in the lagoon before seven days

I remember that the Ooni of Ife made it abundantly clear to President Goodluck jonathan, when he went to canvass for the Oni's support, that yoruba kings don't t tell the people whom to vote for!!!

Now the king has endorsed Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, I don't know which report to believe: the Oba Oni or Oba Akinolu!!!

The Hausas respect the igbos far beyond the yorubas...Why?? The igbos don't sit about mopping and let them get away with reprisal killings unlike the yorubas. How many hausas travel north from yorubaland before the presidentials compared to those who scrambled into the nearest trailers from SE and SS?..almost no northerner travelled from yoruba land. That is why it is good the Oba respects himself so that what happened to Hausaa in Onitsha,Aba,Nnewi won't happen to yoruba communities in Enugu, especially youth corpers....Igbos will vote their choice and if the killings start,we have ample yorubas in the east to throw into River Niger.

The oracle have spoken,as a matter of fact as a typical Lagosian i hv never imagine any grudges with the igbos, the number of properties they have or been jealous of their successes but they have begin to infuriate the yorubas and lagosians by their inciting vituperations that Lagos belongs to them, they have the highest population, they want to be governor in Lagos.haven't the Yoruba tried ,many of them are in the Lagos civi service pensionable even commissioner.they need to stop campaign of hatred.they can never overcome us in our own land.If it happen they would definitely loose.it has happen before in Kano.vote for your choice and stop inciting statements

Obas should not be involved in politics, when 2 of your children fight you don't take sides. He did it in the primaries with Ambode against better APC candidates and got away with it. The problem is Ambode on his own merit does not appeal to many, both ibo and Yorubas. The guy comes across rather dull, unimaginative and rather like a Jonathan mkII...a puppet,a goofball. Ambode cannot win on his own merit, if the Oba hadn't interfered with the APC primaries, a credible candidate that the people can get behind like Sasore, Pitan etc would have emerged, now he is facing the prospect of a clearly more intelligent candidate in Agbaje and they are scared. Not that Agbaje is that great I should add just that next to Ambode he comes across as Einstein.

if he really wants to soil himself by getting involved in politics, then the Oba should first try to convince his yoruba kinsmen why they should vote for Ambode. Threatening people is unbecoming, apologise for the imposition and tell Ambode to up his game, all we see from Ambode's campaigns are studio portraits and musicians dancing, idea, manifesto none! All we hear is continuity, continuity of what, Lekki-express way Scam and the likes? He is trying to imply Ambode is the candidate because they've "consulted", if so then there is no need to fear except they don't really beleive in their "consultations" The reason why Ambode has a problem (apart from the fact that he is dull) is the people don't like the way he was imposed. if they had allowed the best candidates to emerge, they won't be worried about April 11 because APC started in Lagos and APC has momentum, if you are worried about APC in Lagos they, you know you really bleeped up!!!. People are eager to vote for candidates they beleive in, we are also eager to see federal and state presence in Lagos but it's hard to get the inspiration to spend a whole day to vote for an establishment puppet who cannot even articulate his own vision.

Jk is clearly the better candidate but I'm definitely not voting for him because I don't like the company he keeps. APC are no saints especially Lagos APC but PDP is a party of thugs, criminals and people of dubious characters. Orubebe, 'koro and Foyose and the kind of people in left in PDP and as such i won't vote for JK. I am Yoruba and I can't see why I should vote for Ambode and that's my dilema should I stay at home or vote for APC, because if I do vote it won't be for Ambode but for APC.

Ambode: wrong candidate, right party
JK: Right candidate, wrong party
Oba of Lagos: No comment: because as a yoruba son, I must respect my elders and the institution.

I do appreciate your write up, JK is a better candidate and I will vote for him and hold him accountable for my vote. A principled Jimi Agbaje with a well conceived manifesto, enlightening Lagosians on Ocean Economy during the governorship debate and Ambode was bold enough to express such sheer ignorance over the subject. A puppet like Ambode is a disaster in the waiting. For the utterances made by the Oba, I comment on my reserve, the Igbo people are not a push over, they know what they want. A true progressive will always restort to the contest of ideas and not vulgar vituperations. God bless Nigeria.

Where is the domination in trying to vote in an indigene of a state that is obviously of a better character?

I hear many igbo on & off dis forum make potentially dangerous comments like "lagos is a no-man's land". It is silly talks like dis dat gives d impression of a tribe eager to dominate even their hosts.
d way d igbo hav gone about attacking a revered leader & former governor of lagos state even though he is not on d ballot gives d impression dat they ar ready to risk d continued development of lagos by helping to install a PDP govt just to get back at Tinubu who they hold responsible 4 their Azikiwe's loss at d polls.
I don't rate Agbaje, a tax evader wit no track record of public service above Ambode's experience.
