Dear V.O just wanted to know if it's a must that one presents a marriage certificate issued at the registry when filling for ones spouse who where married in nigeria but have a certificate issued to them at the church. |
Re: U.S. Immigration Questions: Ask A U.S. Consular Officer by VisaOfficer: 9:17am On Apr 07, 2015 |
richposh: Per http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/fees/reciprocity-by-country/NI.html : Marriage certificates: Available from local government bodies if the couple performed civil marriage at the Marriage Registry. Traditional marriages may also be recorded with the local government and a certificate of marriage issued. Places of worship that are registered with the Nigerian Government may also issue marriage certificates for ceremonies performed there. It is obligatory that every registrar and religious minister furnish such documents to the Lagos Marriage Registry, but some fail to do so. Records are generally available through the local government where the marriage took place. The Marriage Registry in Lagos has marriage records dating back to 1802. They are filed by year and place of marriage and can be obtained by writing to the Marriage Registry, 19 Kingsway Road, Ikoyi, Lagos. Since both parties to the marriage technically must be physically present at the same location with witnesses to sign certain marriage documents, proxy marriages have ceased to be valid but still occur. |

Other embassies states clearly on refusal note issued to applicant if they are banned from future application be it immigrant or non immigrant. How does an applicant know if they banned probably for misrepresentation. |
Re: U.S. Immigration Questions: Ask A U.S. Consular Officer by VisaOfficer: 10:56am On Apr 07, 2015 |
richposh: If an applicant has an ineligibility, such as for material misrepresentation, the refusal letter will state this clearly. All immigrant visa applicants who do not receive issuance letters should receive letters explaining what's happening with the case. Most cases are "refused" under 221(g), which means that they remain open pending submission of missing documentation, or for administrative processing, etc. If the applicant is ineligible, s/he is informed. If the case is being returned to USCIS with a recommendation for revocation, the applicant is also informed. When we return cases to USCIS, they remain open under 221(g) pending USCIS review, but the cases are considered closed in Lagos. We re-open them if USCIS reaffirms the case. |

Hello VO, I can't find my GTBANK receipt used to book my appointment, what do I do? Urgent . Thanks . |
Re: U.S. Immigration Questions: Ask A U.S. Consular Officer by VisaOfficer: 7:12am On Apr 08, 2015 |
veecee29: The Nebraska office has jurisdiction over Michigan. The receipt number will start with LIN (short for Lincoln). |
Re: U.S. Immigration Questions: Ask A U.S. Consular Officer by VisaOfficer: 7:13am On Apr 08, 2015 |
oloriakinyemi: Now you wait for NVC to let you know what your appointment date will be -- unless you're a fiance(e), in which case we will contact you as soon as your petition arrives at post. |
Re: U.S. Immigration Questions: Ask A U.S. Consular Officer by VisaOfficer: 7:15am On Apr 08, 2015 |
Zelinjo: But you've already booked your appointment? Are you a fiance(e)? If so, you don't need a bank receipt once you've made the appointment -- your confirmation page will do just fine. If you're a non-immigrant visa applicant, I'm not sure if you need your bank receipt. You could ask LagosNIV@state.gov or https://www.nairaland.com/1792662/u.s-non-immigrant-visas-listening . |

VisaOfficer: Thanks VO. It just occurred to me that I don't even know which of the GSS offices I am supposed to go pick up my visa (whenever it is ready). My interview simply told me to go pick it within 5 working days. No option as to where. |
Re: U.S. Immigration Questions: Ask A U.S. Consular Officer by VisaOfficer: 8:40am On Apr 08, 2015 |
halaphilip: There's so much information to keep track of, it's normal to have questions! Check your issuance letter -- it says: Immigrant visas issued in Lagos can usually be collected five business days following the interview at the document collection center at Victoria Island (address below). K1/K3 visas can usually be collected ten business days following the interview at one of the following locations, according to the one that you pre-selected at the time of scheduling your appointment: GSS DOCUMENT COLLECTION CENTER DHL. PLOT 230 MURI OKUNOLA STREET, VICTORIA ISLAND, LAGOS <-- so, this one GSS DOCUMENT COLLECTION CENTER DHL HOUSE. NEW AIRPORT ROAD JUNCTION, APAPA OSHODI EXPRESS WAY, ISOLO, LAGOS |

VisaOfficer: Ma, our appointment was initially scheduled for: April 17, 2015, by 10:00 am and we wrote and pleaded that we should be re-scheduled because my wife was billed to travel back in few days then, and has God would have it we were re-scheduled for: January 16, 2015, by 7:00 am. My wife (the petitioner) and our two children attended the interview slated for January 16, 2015, by 7:00 am and we were both interviewed. She is presently back in the country for Easter holiday. |

Re: U.S. Immigration Questions: Ask A U.S. Consular Officer by halaphilip: 10:34am On Apr 08, 2015 |
VisaOfficer: Thanks. A colleague who was interviewed for a non-immigrant visa last Monday picked her visa today. She didn't have to call or track online - she simply asked someone to collect on her behalf and the person got it today. I was interviewed for an Immigrant visa on March 26. The guy said 5 days. But my tracking has not yielded no result. Maybe I should just go there. |

Hello Beautiful Moms and Moms-to-be's....Apologies for my absence. I have been away on vacation touring cold Europe...lol..Just came back 2 days ago. I am saying a very big thank you to all of you who advised me to go for other visas regardless of my revoked US visa... I still feel very horribly bad and guilty for that VISA. I dont even have the face to go ask for another US visa cos i feel my action a year ago will still hunt me. Fortunately, i see there is a VO on line and i would like to ask for advise. Dear VO, I dont know if you are aware of my story - but please i am sorry to bug you. i was asked if i was preggy and i said no - i wanted to go for a training and vacation for 3 weeks. I got the visa and then i realised (family and friends) said i could give birth there, couple of weeks later, i wrote a mail to them declaring the preggy. 1 week after, i was called and the VO said she appreciates me coming forward but that it would have been best if i admitted when she asked. I was ashamed. so the visa was revoked and she wrote 221B on it ( if i remember correctly). I am now beyound scared. Please i would like to know if this is a ban. what are my chances of getting a visa if i request? when do you think i can do that? - is there a time line?.. Any further info will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all. |

halaphilip: Scary, huh? I clicked on your name, which took me to your profile, and then I clicked on "View Halaphilip's posts," and then I scrolled through to see if you ever mentioned your case number. Turns out you did, once, back in March. Voila! 2 Likes |
