Nihilist: lol, are you implying that Coogar has a case if Orubebeitis or Orubemyopia? : Cleverley lost confidence and became more and more timid as the years progressed. Herrera has not show me yet that he is such a special passer of the ball, he is a good passer.....but thats just it,nothing special for now. I can't categorically say one is a better passer than the other FOR NOW......I need to see more of Herrera |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by coogar: 3:43pm On Apr 08, 2015 |
afrodoc2: but cleverley did this. if he's a sideways & backwards passer like many are claiming here, he wouldn't have thought of this - he would have passed the ball back to joe hart. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 3:59pm On Apr 08, 2015 |
coogar: This is why i had to give up on Cleverley. The major problem was not that Cleverley was unable to pass the ball forward but that he appeared to be UNWILLING to pass it forward. He became too timid to take chances, and fortune favors the brave |

He’s a ball-player but he’s not the quickest…I think he could get exposed (in the Premier League)…I think Man United need a powerful defender…who is very physical and very aggressive, and that is definitely not Hummels. - Speaking of Hummels during Dortmund’s loss to Bayern, former Manchester United player Owen Hargreaves told BT Sport |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by coogar: 4:06pm On Apr 08, 2015 |
afrodoc2: perhaps the öbsession of modern managers to keep possession caused this for him. cleverley can pass the ball but i think as time wore on, he noticed the public started hating him for not really contributing much in the games we lost - his self confidence took a dent & he got worse and worse. he's started every game for villa since he went there & he doesn't play badly at all. he's a facilitator. he just knit the passes, keep things tidy to preserve possession. the whole cleverley cannot solve calculus is laughable. |

His willingness and ability to bring the ball out from the back is what sets him apart from most and the consensus seems to be that this makes him a prototypically Louis van Gaal type of defender. The focus on Hummels’ adeptness on the ball partially hides the reality of his drawbacks, however. While comfortable technically, Hummels physical and athletic traits would lead to discomfort within the confines of the Premier League. The old ‘cold night in Stoke’ analysis may be clichéd, among other things, but it’s worth pointing out that it was Hummels who was unceremoniously brushed off the ball by former team-mate Robert Lewandowski at the weekend, a moment that led to Lewandowski heading home for the only goal of the game as Bayern Munich beat Dortmund at the Westfalenstadion. It’s not the only time Hummels has struggled against fast and/or strong opponents; over two legs Juventus’ Alvaro Morata terrorised him with his pace and directness, even barging Hummels off the ball on occasion, as Juventus hammered Dortmund 5-1 on aggregate in the Champions League second round. |

I agree with Hargreaves. i will take varane ahead of hummels. hummels is appearing slower by the day already. if it was just about composure and leadership we would still have vida or rio in the team, we need someone who want be lacking for pace |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by elampiro(m): 4:13pm On Apr 08, 2015 |
Varane is amateur. We cannot afford another amateur in our team. Is Nicolás Otamendi really good? |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by coogar: 4:16pm On Apr 08, 2015 |
afrodoc2: i think smalling would compensate him. vidic was never quick too even in his prime. hummels is a wonderful ball playing central defender. smalling would sit & let hummels carry it forward. however, if smalling improves his run from deep & doesn't panic when he crosses the half way line then we can overlook hummels & godin should be our target. smalling & jones would have improved massively had they gone to other clubs - SAF & moyes really stunted their growth playing them as RBs. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 4:38pm On Apr 08, 2015 |
elampiro: I will take Hummels ahead of Otamendi. It seems we are getting hummels anyway.....not too bad just wish he was quicker and a lil more physical. coogar: i won't buy anybody from atletico. their success seems to me to be too dependent on the schemes and tactics of their manager. put most of those defenders and DMs in another system and they might falter. |
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by afrodoc2: 4:40pm On Apr 08, 2015 |
elampiro: sadly enough i see your point that varane still has a lot to learn. anyways the signs are that varane stays at madrid or moves to chelsea while hummels stays at dortmund or moves to united. |

maybe we should only buy one defender, be it CB or SB. the drawback is not knowing for sure if the current group of sicklers can stay fit for the major part of next season, but if they can manage it, I think we can do very well with better understanding via a settled back four & general team cohesiveness. |

elampiro: I hope you do realise that as Amateurish as you think Varane is, he has been way better this season than the "experienced"Hummels who has been a calmaity in most games. The only thing dt evn makes him worthy to be discussed is his reputation.Based on this season alone, he wud at best be a spurs or Southampton defender... |

Ander Herrera wants to stay at Old Trafford for the long term despite interest from La Liga giants Barcelona. Reports in the Spanish media suggest that the Catalan giants are watching the United midfielder as a potential replacement for Spanish ace Xavi. Herrera's recent form hasn't gone unrecognised, with Spanish giants Barcelona seemingly keeping tabs on his performances. Barcelona are currently in the middle of a transfer ban, meaning they won't be able to add to their squad until January 2016, but it appears that they're currently on the lookout to replace Xavi, who looks set to leave the Nou Camp in the near future. United fans will no doubt be overjoyed by the news that Herrera is planning a long stay with the club, he said earlier this week: “I’m very happy. Even when I was not playing, I was also happy. I am at Manchester United. I feel really lucky to be here." Ultimately Herrera looks set for a long successful spell at Old Trafford, and not even Barcelona will be able to stop that from happening. Ronaldo and Messi don't save lives!' - Mourinho baffled by footballers' influence Apr 9, 2015 12:08:57 The Portuguese coach continues to be amazed at the status of footballers when compared to people from other professions Jose Mourinho is baffled at the influence on society of footballers such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, considering they “don't save lives”. The Chelsea boss - one of the most recognisable figures in football - believes people from other walks of life deserve greater status given the tasks they perform on a daily basis. Mourinho also questioned those who regard football as the most important thing in life. "I am passionate about football, of course," the former Real Madrid boss told The Daily Telegraph. "But for us professionals, if it means everything then we are in trouble; and for supporters it is the same. "In Portugal they say that you can change everything except your mum and your football club. I understand football’s power, socially, politically and culturally, but how can a football player be in the top 100 of the most influential people in the world in Forbes magazine?" When it was pointed out to Mourinho that two footballers are in the top 100, Ronaldo (30th) and Messi (45th), he added: "It’s absurd! We don’t save lives! "I know that people can jump from a fifth floor because their team lost a game, but that person has problems. "How can you compare a football player, a football manager with a scientist, a doctor? You cannot compare." Mourinho worked with Ronaldo for three seasons at the Santiago Bernabeu, where he clashed with Messi's Barcelona on numerous occasions, before returning to the Chelsea helm in 2013. After a silverware-less first season back at Stamford Bridge, he lifted the League Cup earlier this year and his Blues have a comfortable seven-point lead in the Premier League with a game in hand. http://www.goal.com/en/news/9/england/2015/04/09/10601172/ronaldo-and-messi-dont-save-lives-mourinho-baffled-by |
