Nigeria has number of useless small vessels which do not have blue water capability. Such will not stand before a blue water capable navy. Only effective for pirates.

There has not been any navy vs navy battle in Africa since almost 40 years ago.

Anyway, NNS Aradu is a powerful guided missile frigate with anti-submarine capabilities and all electronics fully replaced or upgraded around year 2002, she is in reserve today, but will be activated again at Nigerdock shipyard if blue water war arises

There is no active ocean based war in the whole world today except piracy crimes. So Nigerian navy has passive guided missile and anti-submarine warfare capabilities.....that is not needed against pirates/oil thieves

Secrecy of the NA can be understood to an extent
I think our military learnt much from the days of the junta when we were placed under heavy arm embargoes and categorically "convinced" not to send in substantial military aid to support SA apartheid struggle, simply because the west knew about every single bullet in our armoury, and they were able to manipulate using that knowledge.
And then during the Obasanjo regime, when france had the nerve to "urge" us to cede bakassi peninnsular to cameroon and adhere to Gowon's bogus pact....France knew too much about our military capabilities and would have delivered dangerous intelligence compilations to cameroon, while arming them up to counter all our combat systems.
So i understand our secrecy,it even makes us look more mysterious! ; D ; D

Largest =/= Best

Without any actual warships Nigeria is unable to perform any operations other than littoral maritime security.

You have a coast guard, not a navy.

Coast guards don't have Otomat missile and Aspide missile, they don't even buy such weapons, talk less of mounting them on warships

And by 2020 we will have completed two brand new powerstations (both of which are the biggest of their type in the world) that together (just the two of them) will more than equal the entire power output of Nigeria

Current shortages are due to the connection of over 1 million new homes to the power grid

This modern day year 2015, over 15 million South Africans have never seen a flash of light in an electric bulb since they were born.....and too poor to afford generators and petrol.

Every Nigerian home has a generator or inverter power back up, even in the many areas who now enjoy almost 24 hours constant power supply.

Nigeria too is building many new power stations worth tens of billions of dollars, the Canadian-Niger Delta electricity power station alone is worth about $ 5 billion and undergoing construction as we speak .

The US AFRICOM Commander in Chad nearly had a stroke when he heard that we had mysteriously purchased armed drones from China despite their stiffling arm embargo,i'm sure that what made them even more frightened was that we could already operate armed drones with unequalled efficiency in such a short time.they got even more shocked when they saw us cruising around in powerful tanks,APCs,IFVs,AFVs and launching rockets from powerful MRLs..hehehehe....And they dont even know if that is even a fraction of our military hardware.

So, I contacted SIPRI. I sought to know why Nigerian military procurement assets are always under-enumerated by the research institute or are totally missing entirely. I discovered a whole lot of anomalies in their arms transfer database, the Hinds and MI-17's from Ukraine(NAF 261, 525,526 etc etc) are not listed, the 12 more MI-35's from belarus were also missing, Tanks, UAV's, Igirigi and Gazelle Helicopters were also under-enumerated or completely missing .............

Here, the reply I got from their Senior researcher.

[b] As usual Nigerian arms procurement is relatively secretive and our open source derived data can only be an indication of the true scope and volume of Nigerian arms imports.

We are always searching for more information, but we only use open sources for our database.

A good example of the secrecy around arms procurement in Nigeria. We only noticed the information abut the Gazelles when the database had already been closed and was ready for publication. We have no idea how many Gazelle's Nigeria has procured and where they came from. We believe they were delivered in 2015, and my best guess is that they come from Serbia or France. Both countries have plenty of Gazelles in stock.

the Igirigi, the number of 10 transferred is a pure estimate, very likely a significant underestimate. We do not know how many have been ordered and how many more are planned to be delivered.

best regards

[size=13pt] @Henry, I have not replied to this your comment, I actually bookmarked it.

You hit the nail on the head!

I have always said on this forum that NOBODY knows all Nigerian weapons in the arsenal, no one single person knows everything. Then these block-headed South Africans do not understand because they are reetarded to the core.

Peter is a colleague in the industry and I have pressured him to update Nigeria's arsenal, he agreed to some, he did not agree to some updates, he complained that the Nigerian government was hiding weapons acquisition and local production, as well as Nigeria buying weapons in civilian organizational names and converting them to weaponized platforms after delivery.

SIPRI has finally confessed that they do NOT know and CANNOT report all Nigerian military weapons on their global database.

Nigeria has about 200 T-72 tanks now, our missile armed drones are under-reported, and our artillery guns grossly under-reported.

This is due to the doctrine of the Nigerian military, secrecy of capability to surprise the enemy in war.

Other countries have a different doctrine....openness to deter the enemy.

I think Nigeria's doctrine is similar to that of China.

It is worthy of note that SIPRI has finally admitted that Nigerian military is SECRETIVE and cannot be tracked !

Well done bros Henry !

Your FOB has 850 troops.
Your FOB is poorly secured and only has 6 APC's.
The Nigerian base in Sudan is 10 times better protected, I posted images.

Plus the Nigerian military in Sudan also has Super-puma and MI-17 Helicopters.

I'm saying it is poorly guarded because it is, I also stated my reasons.

A country that manufactures APC's can't afford to equip it's troops in the CAR and Sudan. That's pathetic.
How do you know its our FOB?
How do you know we have only 6 APCs?

Defeated the Germans in SWA in world war 1, alone BTW!
Defeated the Italians in North Africa in ww2.
Played a major role in Defeating the German forces in North Africa in ww2.
Defeated Cuban and Angolan forces in the Border War.

In more than a 100 years! no enemy force has ever set foot in South Africa!
