Some igbos are nice but, most are not accommodating especially when it comes to making money, and that includes requesting money for virtually everything and looking for every opportunity to exploit the hell out of you.

Can you give specific examples? I can list some of my experiences in Lagos.

Very wrong! embarassed

What, if I may ask is wrong wit what he has said? Ijeoma in my opinion is very deep and knowledgeable, an invaluable jewel which Mr. Omotade has found. Unfortunately, I didn't read Chimamanda's manuscripts but I can deduce from Ijeoma's submissions that Chimamanda was probably not as objective as might have been required of a public figure like she is. What morale does she have then to chide the Oba if she too could not resist the temptation to be sentimental?

I am Yoruba but I totally disagree wit d Oba on this one. That just goes to buttress the saying that there's no perfection in humanity. I know the Oba personally, He is an amiable person. We should not overflog the issue. I believe in the spirit of oneness, it is best if we let sleeping dogs lie.

I don't see us splitting anytime soon, I always laugh at the idea.

Why will you throw civility off the window? No one in this thread has been so derogatory as you.

Really? I'm surprised. Is it that you're blind to the derogatory tribalistic remarks this yorubas have been spewing and are still doing or that you deliberately judge from a one sided angle? Which is it? How much offense has my 'derogatory' remark caused that it should surpass that of theirs?

I have said it several times that it makes no sense calling Lagos a no-man's-land. It is very disrespectful and provocative. What we need is mutual respect to live together. My people should stop all these silly talk of taking over Lagos, that they feed the Yoruba, that others are lazy, all these rubbish don't make any sense.

I also do no support when Yorubas say they are 'accomodating' us. How exactly do they 'accommodate# us? We pay for lands we get, we pay rents for our houses and shops/office spaces, we pay our taxes and all that so I just don't get it. Do they give us these things for free? If they do then they can say they are 'accommodating' us but as far as I know, that statement makes no sense. I can't imagine a british telling another british that he is being 'accommodated' in his own country. embarassed Only in Nigeria will you hear such!

That said, I don't see any need for this unnecessary dislike towards the Yoruba. As far as I know, they are a nice group of people and very wise too. Tribalism cuts across all tribes so let us all not single out a particular tribe. I have lived in the North, SE & SW and I can tell you that I noticed tribalism amongst the Hausa, Yorubas and Igbos! shocked shocked

One love to all. cool

The second paragraph does not make sense to me cos being accommodative is literally telling you that others are welcome to my land without giving u any problem.

The almighty US and UK use that word at all time when it comes to immigration topic. We accommodate visitors in our country..............

Ijeoma Ozichi

This so called Ijeoma Ozichi, your response to Chimanmadu's write-up on the Oba of Lagos herein is trash as to the reality of the comment of the Oba. What about the Housas who are more wicked than other tribe here in Nigeria.

Go back and check the attitude of the Northerners to Southerners in the Nigerian history and see who has done the worse thing to other tribes.

What the Oba of Lagos did is wrong. You cannot tell a fellow man to go and perish in Lagoon because you have someone's interest because of politics. Oshomole told a widow to go and die but he had to retract his statement and also apologized to the lady. Why must the Oba refuse to apologize after he goofed?
We should accept our mistakes if we go wrong. We are all equal in the site of God.

shizzleStar:
Btw, i didn't see what's tribalistic about Chimamandas article, her article was so apt, rational and objective.

Much as this lost soul ijeoma girl tried to sound objective and balance the article, she failed to address a pertinent question. She kept foaming in the mouth talking about reference to Lagos as 'no mans land' bla ..bla..but she conveniently forgot to also address why an igbo man, (Nigerian) living in Nigeria will be referred to by a fellow Nigerian as an 'immigrant' or 'foreigner'. How convenient of her?

And then again why did she chose to refer to Chimamandas article only, what about the senseless letter from the so called 'Yoruba's outside Nigeria' who continuously referee to Igbos in Lagos as 'refugees'? why did she not address that too.?

She conveniently skipped the yoruba letter with all its vitriolic and tirade to tackle Chimamnada who presented a more logical and objective view and reaction to the oba of lagoons unreasonable comment on igbos in lagos.

Ijeoma or whatever, thanks but no thanks. Nice try thou! but we ain't buying your 'peace-making' sermon. Keep kissing arsee to placate the people from your place of marriage but we are not fooled and cant be.

Respect is reciprocal! if Yoruba think they can insult us all in the name of 'you are in our land', and expect us to keep quiet, WRONG! we will insult back in equal measure.

Lagos isn't a no man's land!!!! If u talk of the percentage, then I can tell u that about 60percent are lagosian. It's simply lagos has accepted so much from other tribes, if not an Emeka will not be representing in d house of assembly in lagos. Blatant rubbish!!!! Re: Ijeoma Ozichi Writes Chimamanda Adichie On The Oba Of Lagos Statement To Igbos by reemix123(m): 1:31pm On Apr 15, 2015
From the two write ups it is quite obvious to see the difference in intellectual capacity between Ijeoma Ozichi Omotade and Chimamanda Adichie. Whilst Chimamanda Adichie has raised a very serious issue for us to consider, Ijeoma Ozichi Omotade has reduced that same issue to local area people in the back street calling each other names. What Ijeoma Ozichi Omotade ought to learn and understand is that the Oba is a leader in a leadership position...he is not an ordinary person on the street. When he speaks he speaks on behalf of the people he represents. As such he must be cautious and owes a duty of care to speak in a tone that is aligned with his position. To make comments that could likely incite ethnic clashes is not what the people of any group expect from their leader. It is also surprising that Ijeoma Ozichi Omotade who claims to be igbo married to a yoruba has failed to see the tension that was caused by the Obas comments. Was it not clear therefore that if his comments have created such tension then an ethnic group has been offended...a bit like Buharis famous "Baboon and Dog" speech that led to riots and death in the North. It is time we in Nigeria rose above the street level and started holding all our leaders accountable for their actions instead of simply making trivial statements about what a local area boy or girl said yesterday

I have seen a lot of bullshit spewing from the mouth of so many people here. It still doesn't change the core of the piece, which is

TRIBALISM RESIDES IN IGBO, YORUBA AND HAUSA.

Period.

I was Yoruba by parenthood, I was born and brought up in Imo state, I attended University in the North, did my NYSC among the TIV, above all I AM A NIGERIAN.

WE are all innately tribalistic........

You rather should ask yourself why the Yorubaman feel so bittered about the success of an Igbo man in lagos that warrants his 'need' to remind him that 'you are in your land'.

Thank you for your post.

Some people have no sense of perspective.

A foolish old man got carried away and said something that he should not have. We should all dismiss him as insane instead of attacking each other. No one has died as a result, there were no attempted drownings to speak of.

This is in stark contrast to Jos where people are being killed for the most petty of reasons. If people are looking for something to cry about maybe Jos should be their focus.
