This comment does not really add anything meaningful. Men gossip about sports and women about fashion. Stereotypes about what men and women are required to talk about. But that does not deny the fact that in Nigeria, if you are a woman maybe your parents will decide not to send you to school because THEY think it is not necessary for you, while they will send your BROTHER because they think he needs to. This is obvious, and if you get married at 13 and do not even have basic education, do not expect these women to be rocket scientists or gossip about the new advances in chemistry and medicine. queensmith: It's called hasty generalization, a subgroup of faulty generalization. Nigeria has a population of 170 million and approximately 45% are women. Amongst the people she's met, she could come up with that conclusion. But I find that to be opposite in my society. I might be interpreting the poster the wrong way but my understanding was that she is trying to create a platform where people can talk about their different experiences to create a general awareness as to why women don't engage in specific discourse. For example, politics in nairaland, or even universally as we have few countries that' can boast of ever having a female president. Please enlighten me, as I might have taken this to a different spectrum entirely 3 Likes |

queensmith: Forgive me, i just had a hard-on sticking your way On nairaland I expect words such as 'emotional' 'unstable' feminazi' to be thrown at me. Chest beating is a new one. and it's allowed.stop making a mountain out of a mole hill. She made no analysis - she has sat down and made silly conclusions to ignorant observations. Now if she had decided this after reading a newspaper article she will seem less of a joke. In sum, you are saying her reasoning and deductive conclusions are baseless and void from your standpoint? And if it came from a newspaper article would be tenable? What are you talking about? Women all over the world are benefiting from civilization Nigeria is yet to achieve? What are we expecting from the women that they haven't done? Please read my post above on Nigerias cultures and traditions. You didnt quite grab my message, you claim nigerian culture inhibits its female, but my stance is women across the world at some point faced their own difficulty, its a phenomenon that cuts across all race. Lets not pitch nigeria stand now against a country that has surpassed such inhibition in its past history. Your own people are exploding themselves in the name of religion and you are here applying a blanket rule to an oppressed gender. My own people are your people as well. I just might opena thread on the oppression of women, so we put that notion to a conclusive point. I fix my toenails all the time - I don't use the chitchat from my local nail salon to assess if Chinese women are intelligent, neither do I listen to Capital Xtra and think women are dumber because Jenny Francis only talks about Kim Kardasian. That will just be stewpid of me. You were the one who made referrence to nail saloons as a place not to find intellectual female. Now by your assertion intelligent females may be at nail saloons but i shouldnt expect an even intellectual chit-chat going on there? Emotional sentiment? here we go *rolls eyes*your earlier quote was, its possible to debate an inherently daft gender by permissble analogies(by you). How logical is that stance if not thoughtless sentiment? 2 Likes |

MrsChima: Call me whatever. I don't expect otherwise from you. And it will be demeaning to start calling you names too. All i am begging is for you to be more rational and less emotional. Support women! That is what i expect from you and any other woman. But add a little reasoning to it and we are good. By the way, you still haven't disproved the OP's observation/question: are Nigerian men (on the average) more knowledgeable and wiser than Nigerian Ladies (on the average)? And ranting on social media doesn't in anyway empower women! Hasta Luego! |

If men are wiser, it is mainly because of the way this society prevents women from getting educated (at least to the same degree men can get educated), and that is something that needs to be changed. The faster it changes and women can have degrees or vocational training rather than stay at home and depend on their husband for their income/survival, the faster our country will improve and modernise. vfactor: |

MrsChima:Although distinct, they are closely related. Education attainment is highly associated with intelligence. While it is true that "anyone" can attain a level of education and that someone with money can probably "purchase" a degree of some kind, those with advanced education are almost also quite intelligent. Your usage of George Bush as an example, is quite predictable and ignorant. George Bush studied history for goodness sake. You seem to lack intelligence anyways. There are different types of intelligence by the way, just so you know. 1 Like |

You are right, but being intelligent does not mean that your parents will send you to school or think you should get a degree or improve your education. If you are a woman, your parents automatically might think that you should get married early and not continue your education. Hence, the waste of brains and intelligence that it is that so many women do not study in this country micktoxin: |

Missonas:Is it not smartness for me to appreciate that the genes encoding for smartness in me are contributed by both of them? If smartness is elegance, that I got from her. If smartness is energetic movement, both of them. If it is being clever or witty,it is mainly my dad. If it is being shrewd,my dad. Intelligence? My dad. So, what do you think is the answer to the question? 1 Like |
