Having A Drop In Egg Production by nvgyh: 9:53am On Apr 11, 2015 |
My ogas in the house, I am having a drop in egg production of my layers bird of 1000 from 27crates to 19crates. They started well and was doing really till they reach 27crates/day, they suddenly felt sick(Newcastle diseases) which I believed to be a result of failed Lazota.. I have placed them on viramix and antibiotics, now they are doing fine but their production still ranges between 18 and 19crates. Any idea or help will be highly appreciated. 2 Likes |

@pyx thanks for coming to my aid, I have been watching them doing like this for over 2 weeks now with the believe they will improve on their own but they didn't. They started laying shelless 3days ago so I applied lazota yesterday and will give them vitamins for the next 3days. 2 Likes |

nvgyh:You are so lucky. Most farms suffer greater loss. Did you repeat the Lasorta? Are the layers feeding well like before? mortality? any sick birds n are you culling them? Meanwhile you can give an egg booster for 3 days e.g amino total, or keprocyrl etc . When was the last time you dewormed your birds? Have you checked biosecurity culture in your farm? eg hygienic practices (washing drinkers n troughs daily etc.). let your light out to be from 7 to 9 pm at least for 10 days straight. How sure are you, if you havnt talked to a vet doc, that it is ND? check ventilation too bro. God bless you. 4 Likes |

Re: Having A Drop In Egg Production by nvgyh: 11:40am On Apr 11, 2015 |
Yes I have just repeated the lazota after 3rd week, I am giving them 100kg/day. I lost about 7 when they were sick, and sometimes will just get the farm and found one dead. That happens once in a while. I cull every sick bird either found her weak or having eyes problem.presently I am giving them vitaright which will last for the next 3days. I dewormed last month and been doing that almost every month, I wash drinker every morning , I don't get what you are trying to say by light out from 7 to 9pm for 10 days straight. I stand to be corrected by anyone. |

1. Did you complete their vaccination schedule? You know it is not just about Gumboro and Lasota. 2. Did you change their feed and have they lost so much weight? 3. Did you check for coccidiosis? 4. Did you check for tick or lice or mites? 5. Has their feeding picked up? 6. Have you changed their sawdust since they recovered? You just have to identify the cause of the egg drop. 2 Likes |

@ura pls what other vaccination schedule are you talking about? Yes , some simes to have lost weight. I don't think it is coccidiosis, I have just dewormed and other antparasitic for tick, lice and mite. They are eating and that actually call for a concern as I am thinking maybe the 100kg is no longer enough. I have changed thr sawdust as well. And pls can anyone tell me the actual doses of lazota for 1000birds? Today, I am begining to notice a brownish watery dropping and the greenish one seems to have stop.. your help will be highly appreciated. 1 Like 2 Shares |

nvgyh: For vaccination, apart from Gumboro and Lasota, we also have Marek's, Fowl pox and Komorov vaccines. Those are the ones you can find easily in the market and they are more expensive than Gumboro and Lasota. Greenish diarrhoea is a symptom of fowl typhoid. I prefer to use drugs from Kepro company because they are usually more effective. Did you use Doxygen 20/20 or Amoxy-col? I hope you know that deworming them is not a treatment for coccidiosis. And I hope that rain does not get into their house. You can check my thread, you will see a book I advertised there. It will be very helpful for you. I sympathize with you. I know how stressful such situations can be. Please keep in touch so that I can know how they are progressing. 1 Like 1 Share |

Whenever you give them a medication, you should watch out for the ones that are not going to drink the water. You should carry them there one after the other and assist them to take a little sip of it. 1 Like |

I forgot to answer the question on Lasota. Although, I doubt that the problem is Newcastle. ND will make some of their necks limp and there will be discharge from their eyes and nostrils along with the other symptoms. When you look at the number of birds written on the bottle of the vaccine, if it is 1000, then that is for 1000 birds and if for example it is 200, then you need 5 vials for 1000 birds. Please give them plenty of water o. 1 Like |

Ura: What antibiotics do you think I should use, doxygen 20/20, amoxyl-col or tylodox and for how many days? And regarding to feed, a friend suggested maybe 100kg is no longer enough.. can that possibly results into there drop in production. 2 Likes |

nvgyh: Doxygen is good. use for 5-7 days. Yes. Increase their feed. Yes please. You should be very happy that they are eating. They need the food to recover fast. And their weight have to be good before the laying can pick up. You just have to be patient for them to recover. Inadequate feed is enough to cause them stress, sickness and reduce their productivity. They must not be short of water please. 2 Likes |

Hobat: Please, whenever you guys ask me questions like this, kindly brief me of what you observed before it became like that. there are many causes of such problems. Sometimes the problems are from the hatchery and at other times from your farm. If you are sure that your birds are not ill, then, you have to reduce their feeding drastically for say 7-10 days. If you like, during that period, you can put them back on grower mash. The idea is to reduce their laying if possible to 0% and by extension, so that their reproductive organs can rejuvenate. After that period, you resume feeding them normally. They are expected to pick up. But if there are other issues may be ill health or they did not grow evenly, let me know. Are your birds debeaked? 1 Like 1 Share |

Hobat:From above, your birds have lice. You may consider giving them the drugs again and then multivitamin. Birds are expected to have a slight drop in production due to the prevailing weather condition. |

Hi guys, ur posts are really encouraging. I am currently experiencing a drop in production from 29 crates to 25/26 crates daily for 1000 birds. The drop happened immediately after administering lasota vaccine followed by pantominovit. They. Presently on interseryl. I'm hoping they will return to optimum production, they are just about 3 months into lay. Pls its giving me so much concern, is there anything else I need to do? |
Re: Having A Drop In Egg Production by nobilie: 9:51pm On Apr 15, 2016 |
Don't forget to pay attention to you daily routine. Litter management (waste cleaning) is key. The weather now is hot. Check for proper ventilation and give more water. Other medications can follow. |

One thing i have observed over the years about deworming layers is that it leads to a drop in egg production for some days but will pick up back to normal if the birds are ok and also note that adequate care, cleaning and changing of litter regularly in deep liter system helps laying birds to perform better, also note that noise, heat, overfeeding, too much light also leads to low egg production it is ideal to give 18 hours day light for birds let say 6am in the morning to 10pm at night, also note that forcing layers to lay earlier can lead to adverse effects on egg production. Most times you get recommendations to give antibiotics to your birds. However you need to be certain that your birds have not developed resistance to the drugs (antibiotics) you purchased. Do a lab check on your birds to be sure you are on right track with type of antibiotics you so choose to apply. |
