Where are Africa's greatest minds in science? I mean our own equivalents of Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein. Discovers, Inventors, Astronomers, Premier Physicists, Theorists and Originators. Why hasn't there been a Nobel Prize winning scientist on the Black side of Africa? Are we saying that we have no such geniuses? Why do we tend to lean towards seemingly "se..xier" and right brained paths to glory: i.e. arts, movies, business? Is this a root problem for Africans? A natural aversion to challenging the status quo and generally unscientific minds? Correct me if I am wrong - can anyone name foremost Black AFRICAN names in the sciences. Nigerians, Ghanaians, Kenyans, etc? |

What this thread is the beginning to demonstrate is the African's inability to progress to the future age. We spend so much time in frivolity and petty sqaubles, trying merely to survive our meager existence instead of wondering. Our so called poverty compared to the rest of the world is no excuse. Some of the greatest minds were born in periods of relative lack compared to modern times. What are we doing to reverse this? How are parents nurturing kids to improve their tendency to curiousity and observation? I may be jumping the gun here....so someone should please tell me I am wrong and disprove me. 3 Likes |

It’s absolutely crucial to note that in order to turn things around, i.e. to be pro-scientific, information discussed has to be completely objective and transparent. There can be no propagation of falsehoods. The fastest super-computer in the world is called Tianhe-2 It was developed by a Chinese team of 1,300 scientists and engineers. See link below http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-2343265/New-Chinese-supercomputer-worlds-fastest-speeds-equivalent-338-million-ordinary-PCs-together.html Please let us not show desperation to the extent of scamming people with fake info |

totima:Africans are extremely scientific, with a larger brain mass, higher propensity to develop detailed and enduring solutions to their unique problems. We should all bear in mind the nature by which science exist or to put it simply the vacuum which science fills, most people especially colonized blacks has lost the idea of this true concept of science and one should be made aware of it before any further analysis, simply science is an encompassing definition of all efforts man makes to better his life, either through improving efficiency, eliminating a threat(which includes fellow human enemies by building weapons, biological enemies by creating vaccines and injections, natural threats by building dams, bridges etc) and exploring higher means of experiencing life itself(drugs, religion, superstition). On this basis one can deduce that any isolated groups Scientific advancement is equal to the level of threat it faces and what constitutes as science is Culturally relative(not geographic) . Now one will be left with these few but crucial questions: Do Africans face threats ? If yes what's the proportion ? Can we plausibly equate the level of threat to the level of our scientific development ? The answers to these questions are quite simple but the underlying reasons why those answer are accepted are not that simple, yet those reasons are the single most needed ingredient to spur African Development. Lets try to answer them. Do Africans face threats : Yes, we do. What proportion : Threat on Africans(black Africans) can be said to be of the greatest proportion on earth because our own very existence is threatened, we can assuredly say Africans are a facing A Threat of Extermination. Does our level of Scientific Development equate our threats : No, far from it,rather it can be said that our Scientific Development is inversely proportional to our threat, put simply the Higher our threat the Lower our Scientific Advancement, and vice versa. Now our last answer may strike many as absurd, contradictory or just plain nonsense, by why so ? Because rationality itself is culturally relative(not geographic) and the rationale by which present Africans makes theirs conclusions is alien to Africans themselves, UnAfrican, colonialy imposed and would never assist the African man to understand his nature and situation, hence such rationale is destructive, should one wonder why Africans of today can best be described as self destructive ? Let's examine the reason our situation is so. Advancement in science arises when one tries to solve its unique problems and the knowledge of the success, failures and results which were encountered in the process of finding a solution is what constitutes scientific knowledge. Pre-colonial Africans have this knowledge, by that they were able to devise enduring solutions to their unique problems, they were able to develop technologies that solved challenges they face in their daily lives, they were able to acquire technology from other cultures, modify and implement it in a way that it solves their particular problems. They posses enough curiosity to observe and analyze our solar systems and form relations with planets, stars and their lives, They observed the weather ,analyzed it and created a unique Climatology knowledge base from which their farming seasons and festivities were calculated. That unique quality assures them of the validity of their solutions and they never had the need to seek validation from external source, they were capable of analyzing their problems and defining parameters which can be translated to a solution. If the pre-colonial African in his vast travels all over the continent meets a gun, he can acquire it, analyze and reproduce such technology and even improve on it. The pre-colonial African can adopt policies or systems from other cultures, implement and integrate it in his society in a way that improves it without DISPLACING HIS CULTURE or DISTORTING HIS IDENTITY. Thus he retains the capability to solve its own problem Hence he is Scientifically Capable. A summary of the above is that, the pre-colonial African has the ability to analyze and define his problems. He has the ability to provide scientific solutions to his problems. He has the intelligence and curiosity to seek and acquire technology or duplicate it from other cultures, He also has the ability integrate such technologies into his society in the way that serves his most efficiently independent of any external meddling. However none of the above qualities are present in the post colonial African, he is neither curious nor industrious enough to acquire technology, he lacks the intelligence to develop his identify rather he takes pride in destroying it. He can't independently define his problems neither can he independently solve it. If he needs 200 rifles he must acquire it externally, he can't duplicate it nor does he understand the reason to. The post-colonial black African simply is no longer an African man but a handicapped Europeanized black man(not a Europeanized African). He has been conditioned to serve and nothing else. He takes pride in consuming, wearing latest sneakers and cars but can't make a sneaker himself. He wants to show off his foreign accent and ashamed of his true heritage, so it's no wonder that all that he is ever truly proud about of his heritage are works accomplished by the Pre-colonial Africans, the same ones he castigates as primitive. On this end you can see for yourself that the true Africanized man is wholly capable of scientific achievements and the Post-colonial African lacks this ability, post colonial Africans can only show this capability only when the systems which were put in place to perpetuate the colonial mindset is destroyed. A look back through history will show you that each time the black man is left alone without aid or influence from external powers to find his own solutions he always comes up with extremely commendable scientific achievements , i can show a few well known examples in recent history of the post-colonial African using Nigeria, in 2014 USA in collusion with EU denied to provide Nigeria with Ebola drugs, Nigerians facing a devastating threat which could wipe them out having no external aid or MEDDLING came up with a solution which even rivals that of the supposedly scientifically advanced western countries, keep in mind there is a threat of great proportion secondly there was absence of external aid or Meddling. From 1967 to 1970 Biafrans were faced with the threat of Genocide, with major world powers taking sides with their enemies and aid, they made tremendous scientific advancement in distillation of Hydrocarbons, Guided missile delivery systems, Armoured combat Vehicles, Aircraft part modification and development, Alternative medicine and Humanitarian Crisis response and containment strategies. Again there was a threat of great proportion and there was no external MEDDLING nor do they need anybody's validation to adopt a solution, they acquired, copied, developed and modified existing technologies to solve their unique problems. Surprisingly Nigeria today cannot still match the technological advancement of Biafrans of 1969. In all ;the true African man is scientifically Capable but the Confused Europeanized Black man is not. I have tried my best to shorten the post so certain parts of writing might lack sufficient examples or explanation, feel free to point out areas which you need clarification or validation. 3 Likes |

In other words, EXTREME necessity would be the mother of invention especially for post colonial African blacks. And the immediate threat of extinction/panic be the spur that Africans need to break out of this shell. If so, wouldn't it make sense to push Africans to a breaking point to elicit the innovation that we so desperately need? I am still confused though. In our centuries long war with Arabs and Whites (prior to colonization), why didn't we, in the face of immediate danger, employ the use of scientific ingenuity to extricate ourselves from trouble? thoth: |
