You Can't Insult Northerners and Stay in Power -Kwankwaso;-

Kano state governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso on Monday spoke on why President Goodluck Jonathan lost re-election.

According to DAILY POST, Kwankwaso said, ''He (Jonathan) didn’t know who is who in this country; he was just looking at faces and those who were dressed very well. He meets them at the airport and he smiles and says ‘these are good people,’ he sits down and listens to gossips, ‘oh this man is bad, this man is good in so so places’ and sometimes he doesn’t even know the names and at the end of the day he made a big mistake by picking the wrong people.

''Our leaders who were in this game before us, those who were in the 1st Republic especially, told us so much about our friends in this country and if you happen to come from South South, where they were very close to our leaders, they had done everything possible to work with that part of the country. But of course (Jonathan) misused the opportunity to the extent that many of us felt that with him there, we have no future as a people and as individuals and that is why we had to come and organise ourselves to defeat him.

''Look at what the wife was saying that northerners were bearing children and throwing them away. How could you say that to northerners? With due humility, we are masters of the game. You cannot stay and insult us and get away with it. Democracy is a game of numbers, whether you are almajiri or professor, everybody has one vote; that was why we went back and put almijiris together to get about two million votes.”

But Mr. GEJ had stayed in power and maybe insulted the north for six years. Does this dumbass what GEJ to stay in power forever? What a dullard.

GEJ made the north to lag behind?

No, Babangida did not annul the June 12 elections because Abiola was a non royal (wonder where you got that nonsensical idea from?) but because a few influential elites (from all the three major regions) were not comfortable with Abiola's emergence as president got together with Babangida and persuaded him to jettison the elections - against the clear wish of the majority in the north who had voted for Abiola, even as it were, against their own son, Bashir Tofa.

Sorry, you are quite wrong; its not about north per say but about misgovernance, honour and integrity.

Kwankwaso's message was a warning and a call for non tribal/ethnic politics in Nigeria, particularly by southern politicians against the north because such politics doesn't pay.

APC's merger and victory was not about getting power back to the north but a coalition of mutual interests with the SW brought about by misgovernance, ineptitude and alienation of the ppl of these regions by Jonathan's administration, compounded by GEJ's crude divisive campaign utterances and insults on his behalf by those closely associated with him (PEJ, Asari Dokubo, FFK, etc); but by far the greatest cause of GEJ's loss was due to his perceived deliberate neglect of northern region on the issue of security where he ignored the slaughter of thousands of its ppl in the hands of Boko Haram, without lifting a finger until the eleventh hour when he needed their votes.

Kwankwaso's message was a warning and an advice to southerners and their politicians:

1. Do not look down disparagingly at northerners with disdain because the Almajiri who is continuously at the buttress of your insults is equally capable of retaliating with his votes.
2. Recent voting in the north were not votes against the SS but against GEJ as the north had a historical alliance with the SS until Jona spoilt it.
3. Politics is a game of numbers, therefore anybody wishing to play regional politics against the north should be aware that the north too can play the same game and is always capable of coming together when threatened to exercise its majority votes.

If Tofa had won that election bro, there would had been no annulment!

The protests over June 12, was sectional and in the South West!
Till today, only in the South West will you hear of the remembrance.

Do not worry yourself bro, time will tell.

You should ask yourself why ur region and ppl will not continue to be irrelevance and useless in d Nig polity, kicking against any progressive moves base on ethnic and religious hatred, only for u to com begging for juicy positions.

Buhari will complete the Niger bridge as u requested, and hand d FCT minister's slot to u.

If, if, if, you are only postulating over what did not happen but not adding any tangible evidence to buttress your clearly biased opinion.

Either you are a poor student of history or you have a selective memory; otherwise you would have recalled that the first ppl to protest about the June 12 annulment were in fact northerners, prominent among them were Colonel Dan Giwa Umar, Balarabe Musa etc; unfortunately Abiola lost northern support immediately he and his ppl turned the protest into a tribal one - otherwise northerners would have been with him the whole hog.

BTW, did you know that one of Abiola's sons is married to the daughter of the former IGP, Alhaji Kamselem, from Maiduguri?

He has said it all. It 's all about the North. The hidden agenda has been laid bare. The whole idea, mergers and plots was solely to return power back to the north and avenge a perceived insult to the north by Jonathan. And to think that the SW was a willing tool in the hands of thie 'born to rule north' without even knowing it is baffling.
'Nobody will insult the north and get away with it', he boasts. All thanks to the betrayal of a section of the South. The Yorubas were used big time.

Rubbish! Jonathan lost because he failed to unify the South and ALLOWED a sense of marginalization to grow in the SW. His strategic mistakes were many chief of which was failing to include the SW positively in his government. There will always be jostling for supremacy between SE and SW in any SS led government such as his.His challenge was to determine what was in his best interest.Rather he allowed a sort of SE triumphalism. How can you talk of a united South when Stella Oduah was firing Yorubas with disdain. That was her own agenda but he did nothing. In the ened the SW swung the other way.If the SW had voted as it did in 2011 there would be no victory for Buhari
His other problem was pettiness and a childish tenndency to pick ridiculous fights with OBJ,Amaechi,Sanusi,Oyinlola etc. Finally he lacked confidence in dealing with the North choosing to appease them instead of strengthening his hand in the South. He should have appointed a southern Minister in Abuja and refused to appoint a Northern National security adviser and finally he should have dealt with Kwankwaso long ago.
Overall he did not know what to do and because of his lack of exposure was only able to surround himself with his fellow Ijaw.
He should have been the one to make a deal with Tinubu but that would have been too intimidating for the "small" men he preferred to have around him
He miscalculated badly on how important OBJ was to him this was indeed stupid and I strongly believe that would have been under the influence of his wife.Overall ,I think she was a very bad political influence. He should have declared his intention to run long ago.Particularly he should have declared this to Obasanjo who is much respected in the North.
I do not think his loss was inevitable. He was just a very bad and incompetent politician

You mean Stella, should have allowed the lopsided Yoruba dominance in the aviation ministry, that was not built on merit but strictly on nepotism and tribalism, following the fall of the East in 1970?

You didn't want the application of federal character in the ministry, neither did you want merit via exams, you wanted unmerited dominance? Inukwa!

Jonathan is a disappointment.

You don't bite the fingers that fed you.

He treated the South West with Contempt and he was paid back. We are not like the South Easterners that will say ' we know he disappointed us but we would still vote for him'. No, we are politically advanced. You don't embarrass our elders and go unpunished.

He was a learner. Now, he has learned in a hard way.

What a joke. I guess you meant the so-called politically advanced Yoruba that created, at least, four political parties and watched them die a natural death before being forced into Islamic union by northern region in order to save face.

Well if we are to move forward that should be done holistically and transparently and should be a presidential agenda not a ministerial one. Otherwise we will go round in circles. Whatever was done can easily reversed so that is short termism.
A minister does not have a mandate to reverse perceived wrongs and when they embark on such to redress wrongs to their own group will be biassed. At any rate if such a thing was present were Eboes the only victims what about other groups.

The Igbo man stands for justice, equity and merit.
Yorubas used nepotism and tribalism to dominate the aviation ministry.

I wouuld agree if it was transparent. When an Eboe minister sacks a Yoruba ban and replaces him with an Eboe man and you say it is MERIT and he is the BEST man I find that interesting. When this happens about 10 times I would ask for the criteria to be published. If that does not happen then if we have a Yoruba minister and he does the same thing you will have no argument.
To say when an Eboe is there it is merit and when not it is nepotism is funny,
At any rate if nepotism were an issue Eboes have always been in bed with the north politically.

Let me remind you in 1979 President Shagari
Vice President Alex Ekwueme
Senate President Joe Wayas
Speaker House of Reps Edwin Ume-Ezeoke
Yoruba were not in government they chose OPPOSITION
Let us remember this was JUST 9 YEARS after the end of the civil war

So if anyone was benefiiting from nepotism it was Eboes and not Yoruba.
The truth is Oduah took unilateral decision to cleanse Yorubas specifically in her ministry. We will not forget.

You are not serious. The Igbo was also in opposition in 1979. The Igbo party was NPP under which Zik ran for the president and NPP controlled the two Igbo states of Anambra( Jim nwobodo) and Imo ( Sam Mbakwe).

Ekwueme was a self made man, he was never an Igbo popular choice, he reminds me of Ogbonnaya Onu of today. He never really represented the Igbo agenda, he was too nationalistic.

As of 1979, the Yorubas were still enjoying the spoils of the civil war, as the Arewa were not educated enough to fill those offices, and the Igbos sidelined after the war, the Yorubas had unhindered access to most of Nigeria's parastatals and ministries, and soon filled it up with their kind. They had maintained that ever since, using nepotism and tribalism.

Stella put a stop to that at the Aviation ministry, imagine that more than 2/3 of the GMs Stella met in the ministry were Yorubas! She simply brought equity to the polity by retiring those Yorubas and applying federal character in ensuring equal representation of all Nigerian groups in the ministry.

She did well.

Well, its already working....Divide and rule. the last time i checked, Kwankwaso was a northerner and obviously he is solely bent on protecting northern interests. Hence by all means and in alliance with southern elements the north has snatched power back to their region. so it has alwas been about power going to the north all along. But what baffles me is that southerner will be at each others throats for comments made by the supposedly "rulers of Nigeria". They not only grabbed power but stand back a watch you guys tear each other apart so that it serves their purpose of perpetuating themselves in power. Most southerners are very uninformed and naive.

THAT is the point at the end it cost JONATHAN because the Eboes alone did not have the votes to keep him there .From the Eboe perspective whatever they think Oduah gained for them let us see how long that will last.

You are not making any sense. Are you saying that because the Yorubas got there first, therefore their nepotism should be allowed to stay? Even FFK once boasted of how he employed lots of his Yoruba people in the aviation ministry. All those without observance of the federal character, but no one said anything about it, if not because of the loquacious nature of FFK, no one would have known and Yorubas would keep quiet.

If Stella employed Igbos in the aviation ministry without observance of federal character, like Yorubas did from 1970- 2010. Then anybody that decides to reverse it is not wrong and have my support. I am all for merit and Equity.

NPN- NPP coalition that produced Ume-Ezeoke as the speaker was after the elections, NPP remained an independent party with regional influence in Igboland, there after.

I am more focused on the Jonathan presidency that is the subject of this thread. let us not ignore the forest to focus on a tree.
The point is behaviour like Oduah's meant the Yorubas did not vote for GEJ and Eboe votes were not enough to keep him in power so from a pragmatic perspective Oduah's approach did not offer any LONG TERM benefit. The Eboes generally react rather act they never think long term.Let us see whether Oduah's amendments will endure.

KORLAR:
The federal government has sacked the director of
finance of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria
(FAAN), Mr Tochukwu Bede Uchendu.
Uchendu was relieved of his appointment following
a petition by two leading aviation labour unions
over irregularities associated with his appointment
and unapproved waiver grants worth N1 billion,
respectively.

The Transport Services Senior Staff Association of
Nigeria (ATSSSAN) and the National Union of Air
Transport Employees (NUATE) had last week,
petitioned the head of service of the federation
calling for the sack of two directors in the FAAN –
the directors of finance and commercial.
In a letter dated April 27, 2015, which was signed
by the director of Human Resources, A. A. Tsafe, for
the Minister of Aviation, Uchendu was directed to
vacate the office until a due process initiated for his
appointment was concluded and formal letter of
appointment issued to him.
“We regretfully inform you that the letter (his
appointment letter) is hereby withdrawn pending
the conclusion of the necessary due process on the
matter,” it said.
