What of security? Is Jos safe? I heard there's always a form of violence or another there. Is that true?
There is this place in jos called Ray field, Security is top notch there. The crisis in Jos were "politically motivated" though the town still do witness pockets of violence but of recent times is been peaceful.

If you are looking for a place to live and have a rest of mind i think some part of Osun state will be ideal... Nature is still intact in some part and it has not been degraded by deforestion and the likes... Life is just so simple and the people are super-friendly... It's just that the place hasn't develop much for business to Flourish...

I will recommend Ibadan. Cheap city, proximity to Lagos, increasing business potentials among others. BTW, Uyo is just an over-rated city. Apart from the modern infrastructures, the few entertainment outlets, there is nothing else of interest here.

This thread is for those that intend to settle down in other states or localities in the country. Most people usually have a phobia for moving from their home or locality because they do not know what they will see when they do. This post is thus fashioned to enlighten those that haven't travelled around the country and may not be able to yet they need to know what obtains pertaining the quality of life in other places.
If you are well travelled, you may contribute to this thread by highlighting those places you think are the best places to live in this country. In your consideration, take note of cost of living, beauty of the place, population of the place, development, the government there and the indigent people that stay there. You may choose to present only one place or more than one place but make sure it is in Nigeria.

Just relocated from Ph to ilorin after 6 months of research and consultations looking for the perfect environment to start a family and retire a farmer. I had calabar, eket, uyo, asaba, ijebu ode, ile ife and makurdi in mind and after intensive research and consultations with residents i settled for ilorin. Notice none of the places i listed are mega cities yes cos i know myself, not a fan of urban noise, over populated places, i like me some peace and quiet without sacrificing those things i would get in mega cities like ph, Kano and Lagos.
Came to Kwara state last year for a one year feasibility study and i must tell you so far i have no regrets. Enough sites to start a farm, religious tolerance, good location on the Nigerian map (not far north, not down south), close to the to the capital Abuja, security is good, I no dey find work so can't say much about that, that's the beauty of fx trading but it's pretty much a civil servant state tho, well am still researching.

PH,,less stress unlike lagos.

Lol no do ohhh, the same ph i gotten sick off. Ph got loads of stress and security issues, values are terrible. Setting up a business there is a herculean task because you will settle and get sick of settling communities. Imagine someone asking you to settle him before you can develop his community. You want to instal free borehole for them you must settle. No call ph abeg.

Calabar. I'm not from calabar or south south but believe me, calabar rocks.
No hold up, nice places to hang out, nice environment especially if you are retired or want to read....For newly wed, honeymoon in calabar is the best infact your wife will take in fast fast because better environment follow...lol if i dont go abroad for my HM when the time comes, then calabar will be a sure beat....Cali rocks

And when cult riot starts? Or when the bad eggs of unical go into town to rob our kidnap? What about the rival gang crises that's popular in Marian the popular area in calabar. I have lived there for more than a year so bros check ur analysis well.

Let me see, i dropped calabar and uyo because of cultism, dropped ijebu because of power and infrastructure, dropped benue state because of infrastructure, flooding and HIV(no disrespect intended), dropped didn't have anyone on ground in Asaba, dropped Enugu because of it's proximity to the hot spots, cultism and security (trust me i did my homework). Had no complains about Kwara except for lack of jobs and like i said before i work online so i can live anywhere as long as there is internet and gtb to withdraw my cash. Ilorin got almost all you can ask for in most most Nigerian cities for less.

Everything is there: Quiet, Food and Fun.

Security is bad, cultism is growing by the day.

EITHER Calabar

The people are civil.

It's clean.

Good infrastructure.

Good golf course (another one on the way, Summit Hills).

Marina is a great place for relaxation and entertainment.

Good restaurants everywhere.

Cost of living is decent.

OR Uyo

Great infrastructure and more to come (excellent roads, underground storm drains).

Business is expanding to take advantage of the infrastructure.

Best golf course on the continent.

A selection of good relaxation spots - good restaurants, hotels and bars.

Cheap cinema (and it's clean, unlike some in Lagos).

Both of em got security and cultism issues. When you plan on relocating to a place to settle down consider the kind of environment your kids will be exposed to. Buy if i didn't pick ilorin i would have picked uyo. This past election is another good scale to judge security of various states with.

Show me a place in Nigeria that does not have 'cultism issues'/backwards cultural practices?

Isn't Ilorin a town plagued by Fulani herdsmen and their killing?

Isn't Kwara the most poverty stricken state in the south?

Calabar does not have security issues and Uyo is significantly safer than many places in Nigeria.

Note: Kwara is not in the south. It is in the North Central region.

That would explain the poverty.

Is it not Yorubaland?

Or is officially part of the Caliphate?

I don't know. Just curious.

There are schools, high institutions, night Life, Airforce base, naval base, airport, stadium, a huge mall with poplar brands like KFC, SHOPRITE to name a few, a fly over bridge, cinema, hospitals, this is the much i have seen so far. Visited offa too.

It is part of the caliphate. It has an emirate also. Ilorin emirate with about two emirs in the state. Though there are more yorubas in the state, there's also the Nupe, Fulani and Baruba people who are there. The yorubas there are mostly of Fulani origin though. They are the descendents of Shehu Alimi, a relation (son I think) of Uthman Dan Fodio, the first sultan of sokoto. They learnt yoruba through the interpolation of Afonja, the then Aare-Ona-Kakanfo of Oyo empire and his army. Apart from this set of yorubas, we also have the Igbomina and Ekiti yorubas occupying Kwara south which is close to Ekiti and Osun states.

Chief you can't say cultism is everywhere like they are all on a constant level. I have lived in no less than 10 states in this country and i can tell you some places don't even know what u talking about when u say cultism but in other states it's the order of the day. A 7 year old boy you ridicule in such cult ridden states can arrange your drilling with just one phone call. Am not exaggerating.

I have a very good knowledge about how Cultism functions in Imo State. For the OP's stated intentions, Cultism would be the least of one's concerns when planning to settle in Imo because they are kiddies' affair here, mostly exists in rural parts of Imo and the institutions of the state.
Perhaps, the cost of living there would be the only viable problem I forsee.

Lol did you say poverty? Okay let's look at it from a business perspective. Do you think these brands such as KFC and SHOPRITE will open up shop in a poverty stricken town? You think they don't have experts with years of experience who conducted feasibility studies before giving the nod to their superiors to open up shop? A town that is poverty stricken have banks at virtually every turn. Gtb has no less than 4 branches from Ibrahim taiwo to tanke i guess they store paper there and oh how is it possible that all the banks have am average of 5atm machines outside like it's some competition? I didn't give my reviews to talk any state, town or city down. Just reporting it as it is and for your info I lived in cali, IBB way to be precise.

Most of the places i have spoken of i lived there and the fewplaces i didn't live in i researched with people on ground. I think i should open a consulting Firm lol.

Ilorin is a city. It's a budding one at that. However, have you seen the rest of Kwara? I work at Oro so I can categorically tell you that Kwara State is a poor state and that Ilorin is its only hope. Coming next but nowhere near is Offa.

Oga don't digress, the op said "best place" and not "best state". Am referring to Towns, cities and not a state. All states have under developed Arras outside the capital. Am simply referring to the word "place"and not the state as a whole. Even in American state you have the country side so let's not mix it up, we are talking places and not poor or rich states.

The image that you have shown of waste overflowing from the collection bins can be seen everywhere - ask people in NYC about how filthy that city is because of how refuse is left to fester in every corner of the city. Calabar is not even half as bad, the way you talk people will think that you are describing Aba or Onitsha.

Calabar is still safe and clean, cleaner than most Nigerian cities for sure.

Why do you single out Aba, Anuohia.
