Naah!! I'm not a fan of using Fighter Jets for CAS. Not only are (jets) bad at it, there's a higher chance of blue on blue.

With PGM's and sniper pods combined with good operational control this is not a problem.

Exactly, Even with improved targeting(laser guided munitions et al), most jets are simply no good. Of course Sub-sonic jets are better in CAS, i still do not feel jets are an ideal close air support platform.

Sometimes, you actually need to be practical in your comments. How many countries have or can afford an F-35, operating cost and infrastructure?

Point is, instead of investing in Fighter Jets for CAS, i'll rather pay for more for attack Helicopters in the fleet.

With fighter jets, there are no guarantees that the bomb would hit it's designated target. CAS missions aren't pre-programmed like deep air support missions.

CAS missions require a high level of skill and integration with ground troops, which fighter jets aren't the best suited platform for.

You do know the Gripen C stall speed is about 170 km/h and the Hawk stall speed is about 180 km/h, both of which are about 20-30km/h higher than compared to one of the most Modern COIN/CAS aircraft the Super Tucano, 20km/h is not much if you ask me.

So yes i think a Gripen and Hawk would do decently in COIN warfare compared to other prop propelled CAS aircraft.

Affording rocket assisted Denel artillery is not the issue...Does anybody need it? Tanzania has 100 km range mobile rocket artillery. Denel 73 km range is far less. Tanzania afforded to pay for a 100 km range artillery.....but what target are you going to war to hit 100 km away ? Is distance always that far in real life war? A whole city battle space may be just 20 km wide from city east to west.

What you're saying is another debate. As you're even comparing a howitzer to a MRL.

You can hit anything from columns, troops concentration, command posts and more.

The MRL in question can deliver guided rockets and other specialised rockets

100km covers a huge area and can support ground troops without having to constantly move.
