Pls,do you mean pullet sized eggs sells for #620/crate?
If no,what size of egg sells for #620/crate. Do you sort your eggs.
Finally where is your location?
Eggcelent:
TheShootist. You can make 65k thereabout under the following conditions;
i. you have an 87.5% production minimum;
ii. a crate of egg goes for #620 minimum;
iii. a bag of Layers feed is not more than #2,500. @grownaira. Thanks for the observation.

tabontabon. No. Pullets-sized eggs don't sell for #620/crate. I'm resident in Ondo State. Average size eggs go for between #600 & #650 here. The average being #620/#630 is what I used in the estimate since this size of eggs is what a farmer gets for significant period of the birds laying cycle. Thanks

I will repeat this again. Anytime, you are buying birds from an hatchery,middleman/supplier,always ask 4d availability of raring book and feeding guide.b4 making payment.
The disease prevalent in hatchery A breeder stock may not be in hatchery B

davidzfarm18:

Happy Workers Day.
However, a farmer has no public holiday.
for compounded feed
Grower will cost between N1500-N1700 depending on your location. the formulae and the source of the ingredient/materials.
Layers mash will be between N1700-N1850 .
You may wish to consider using concentrates. (less stressful but only slight reduction in price. but looking at the now of your birds N50 -N200 savings per bag goes as long way.
we started ordering feeds from a mill nearby. withthe formula we use (animal care concentrate, maize etc) the cost of grower mash is N76/Kg. i believe the layer mash would cost a little bit more.
with 3,264 birds we need to think about managing cost.

The cost of the Grower is to high at N1900 per bag.
You may consider using animal care at N1770 discounted when buying up to 10bags.

Do anyone know the price for 'Amo' broiler starter and finisher concentrate? how good is their concentrate compare to top feed one?
Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by davies427: 8:10am On May 03, 2015
@segun1976. I could nt keep it too myself again. Pls n pls be careful milling ur feed outside. I had an experience wit my past birds milling from a feed mill. I was reaped off soo bad. To an extent that d feed was compounded badly, d maize was white instead of yellow maize. I will advise u to invest in ur own machine. It does nt cost u.more than 250k or less to get a good machine wit lester generator in ibadan. I gurantee u that if u sort for ur own material n mill on ur own farm u will see a difference. Forget watever the feed miller will tell u. If u r nt there while it been mill, u will be shortage. Also if the feed mill does nt practise safe n hygiene ways while ur feed is been done. Ur birds might get infected. Just saying# u cant spend.more than 600k including machine n oda items needed to compound ur own feed. Justsaying bro.

Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by Eggcelent(m): 1:48pm On May 04, 2015
sukkotfarm. The birds have been laying for 25 weeks now. The present production is about 86.5%. The egg size is large when the birds are in good health. They are brown.

@Eggcelent good to know ur birds are from Zartech. Mine are from Zartech as well. Your current production level of 86.5% has rekindled my hope. My birds are from Zartech as well. Started laying @ 19wks5days and they've been laying for the past 13wks. current production level has been alternating between 75-79.5% for some weeks. what would you say about this compare to your birds performance when the were that age? what can I do to improve their performance if you think they are lagging behind?

sukkotfarm. Do you mean Zarm Hatchery at Ilemona, Kwara State? I learnt DOC from there & CHI are probably the best in this part of the country, though, I'm yet to do biz with either. Since you are at Akure, I believe ZARTECH Ibadan is the nearest to you. You may wish to call 08055990399. Their birds are great. Just start them with any antibiotics containing Gentimaicine. Success. AkayTopsy. As Haryobame noted earlier, your birds should be doing better. I'll advise you look into the ventilation, quality/quantity of water intake. I assume they are in good health & are being given quality feed. Success. endy247. Week of first lay differs from birds to birds depending on whether they are early or late moulters and some other factors. You may consider photostimulation provided majority of the birds are at least 1.5kg in weight. I must say, however, that at 19 weeks, you have nothing to worry about yet. Success.

Thank you eggcelent!......yeah I meam zarm hatchery!....I just called the number you gave me,so am going to book my next birds from them!..pls I beg you address this!....your take on brown and black layer birds with profitabilty? Thank you
Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by Eggcelent(m): 3:01pm On May 05, 2015
sukkotfarm. I'm yet to do black layers in a significant number. However, I have twice had them amidst my Isa Brown flocks. The first were 15 in number. The second; 40 pieces. What I noticed were that the black birds had greater resistance to diseases than their brown counterparts. However, it took them longer to attain their peak production. In the meantime, how much is Zartech DOC now? Success.
