The Federal Ministry of Finance said the Federal Government was not responsible for the failure of state governments to pay workers’ salaries.

This is contained in a statement signed by Mr Paul Nwabuikwu, spokesman to the Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, in Abuja on Wednesday.

“Regarding difficulties in salary payment, certain governors are trying to blame the federal government for their predicaments.

“This is wrong. They had been told through the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee to prioritize salaries, they chose not to do so, hence the backlog that some states are experiencing”, it said.

The statement also added that the 50% drop in revenues simply meant that salaries should be prioritized and that the federal government should not be blamed for mistakes that could have been avoided but made at state level.

It added that it was wrong to allege that federal workers were being owed salaries.

“This is incorrect. Staff salaries at the federal level are up to date; workers have received their April salaries”, it added.

Ok. if a state's allocation is N2 Billion and its wage bill is N2.6 Billion, should they spend all on paying salaries?

Okay...

I have said it time without number. APC governors just trive on making stewpid statements against GEJ. They still want to preside over Nigeria with their endless propagnda. Okay oh.

But why?
Some states cant pay while states are increasing their workers‘ welfare & have been paying.

What are the state governors who have not being paying their workers doing with their IGR?

Does it mean that these states do not savings?

Must every state run to FG with begging plate every month before they can meet up with the needs in their state?

It is a serious pity how many people do not hold their governors accountable but throw all the blames on the FG.

I wonder why a governor could not be able to develope means of increasing the economy of his after four years & the people of that state will vote him in again.

Thank GOD oil prices are going down with speed. Thank GOD many countries are discovering alternatives to oil.

This is time for us to know who & who is a good gorvernor.

Everyone knows this.. Only fools will buy the cheap lies that Aregberascal and his thieving co-traveller, Rochas, are peddling, blaming FG for the uncountable cash they've looted out of the state treasury, thereby rendering the masses in their states, jobless and useless.

They claim to have no money, yet they were squandering the state's money during the election. Did that money wasted during the election come from the stars? Rochas and AregbeRascal are bad liars and heartless thieves!!

With 50% drop in fedral allocation, how do u expect states with lower IGR to survive? Am sure the 50% most of this states recieve is not even enough to pay salaries and equally embark on developmental projects. GEJ spent almost 3billion on his re-election campaign. Do u knw how far this money would hav gone in developing this nation?

Another directionless post. Can you prove that GEJ spent 3trillion on his re-election bid? How much is the country making that someone will spend that much solely? We talking over $15bn here. You need to think before you post. Dont bring beer parlour talk here again. Campaign has ended, let the slander and calumny end also.

A thinking govt should think outside the box, source for funds from alternative sources. . . FG has advised salaries should be prioritised, the governors cant claim they and their aides are not been paid their entitlements; why deny the civil servants.

Very funny. How much is IGR compared to the wage bill? You must be kidding!

Btw, Lagos is not the only state in Nigeria. Many of you even criticized Lagos for collecting taxes to improve IGR. Ajimobi wanted to do same in Oyo state, everybody screamed.
