Omotiti. Welcome from the sabbatical leave.
as per above, keeping broilers up to 12 weeks off season is not really encouraged. try and feed them with additnal light when possible and dispose them by 6-8weeks.
on a lighter mood. the women in question does not know how to price the birds, hence her comment.
Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by Eggcelent(m): 7:57pm On May 07, 2015
omotititi. Your experience is the exact reason I have chosen not to do broilers.

Wow...Bigiyaro welldone. I am currently experimenting with 51 broilers and they are 12 weeks today and i dnt like the price the market women are offering. One of them priced N1300 per very big birds not less then 2.5kg each and i almost asked her to vanish from my farm and the other one said my birds were too clean and that her "spirit' does not angre with them. Please house, has anyone heard that kind of afternoon confession before? I have been doing layers and this is my first attempt at broilers. i bought only one box and they added on extra making 51 and they all survived and i feed them well.Making sure the environment is clean and as such have clean birds is that a sin?

In addition, what price did you sell your mature birds Bigiyaro or anyone else? my farm is in benin.

Thank you for keeping the forum alive.
lol 'chicken sprit' indeed. I sold to mr biggs @ 700 per kilo, bt i think it depends on location. Am in jos.

Hello good people,
Please I need guidance on what quantity of feed I should be feeding my pullet.
They are currently 18wks 1day, ISA brown. A guide I saw on the website says 85g but the breeder who sold to me says about 95g.

From your experience, what do you suggest?

That's huge. But I think as a first timer, you start with small and gain experience. But if you're so rich that making costly mistakes means nothing, of course u can go ahead.

Check the plan here for Hyline brown. There feed consumption is slightly lower. http://www.farmersjoint.com/blog/livestock-farming/poultry/feed-consumption-plan-body-weight-target-laying-hens/.

Layers require 3 birds/m2 (deep litter). Checkout the link below for other breeds: http://www.fao.org/docrep/008/y5169e/y5169e05.htm.

What type of roof did you use? Are u planning for cage or deep litter system?

This would affect the number you can raise in any given space.

Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by Eggcelent(m): 6:53am On May 08, 2015
Annabechick. Your pen won't do for the number you are looking at. You need to increase the width to at least 26 feet. segun1976. 85g/day for 18 weeks old pullets in cages is OK (according to ISA Brown Management Guide). However, I'll suggest you pick several of them at random (especially, the smaller ones), weigh them to see if they are up to 1.5kg. If yes, stick with the 85g/bird/day for the week; if no, increase it to the 95g suggested. Success.

its deep liter system and am planning to start with broileirs first and d roofing is zinc

If u are planning 4 broilers, ur current pen will only accommodate 800-900 birds at maturity. it can go up to 1000 when the weather is favourable and you change the litres very often.
If you stock more than the required no. you will definitely deal with a lot of mortality and spend more on drugs.
Goodluck.

Anybody using top feed for the past few months?
Kindly share you experience I have been having issues with my birds lately they eat like giant but produce small size eggs and production never go beyond 55-65%.
I have consulted my vet , we have administered series of drugs to no avail.
I tried using animal care feed on a row I have better production with good sizes but my headache now is that the chicken sneezes and they feeding rate isn't encouraging .
Pls share you experience and the way forward
.Anybody using livestock feed? I wanna know what I can give my chicken to improve their performance.
Shalom

That's the name as written on d pack. Just ask for E.S.T, drug for CRD.

It's a product of Kepro, manufactures of veterinary drugs in Holland.

obnelly. I guess the small sized eggs & low consumption rate are a result of the hot weather. Maybe, you should look at countering effects of the heat stress.

Deep litter? Wow! Thats cool. I informed the house some pages back about my intention of starting 350 layers. I intend using battery cage. Actually if i'm sure deep litter can give me good results, then i can start with 700 birds. Instead of throwing half of my funds on cage. I used to believe deep litter reduces production efficiency? What do you think guys?
Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by Eggcelent(m): 8:29pm On May 08, 2015
TheShootist. There are some peculiar challenges with Deep Litter system. The major among these is infestation with lice. Also, increased manpower required to get a good result. Lastly, birds on Deep Lifter are required to eat more (about 10g/day/bird) than those in cages to attain equal level of production. Consequently, whatever savings you make on cages are lost on feeds in the long-term.
