Times have changed. They don't need to know how many states we have. It is irrelevant and a non issue. If you need the answer, simply ask IFA aka Google or SIRI. The so-called generation that we keep lambasting are actually smarter than us. Keyword is SMART. The Awolowo and Azikiwe doctrines that you cite no longer apply in todays world. We are in a world were a 2yr old fully knows how to use an IPAD. Sure they have distractions like MTV, Africa Magic etc but the reasoning capability has improved. We the old timers keep criticizing them simply because they don't do things the way we did them yet this "SUPPOSEDLY DUMB" generation keeps innovating everyday. Irrelevant issues like knowing the number of states and who designed Nigeria's flag are no longer important. All that information is readily available nowadays via apps, phones etc.

As an example, Awolowo advocated free education all through. A modern day Nigerian (the ones you feel sorry for) will be opposed to that simply because they know better. Free Education in todays world is simply killing the educational system.

Ah! Are you an old-timer? Sorry o sir lol
Anyways, you may be missing the point; no one is literally pressing panic button over a matter as trivial as not knowing how many states there are. Instead it is just an indication or a pointer to the irrepressible reality of how disconnected our supposed future leaders are from certain very basic knowledge and information.
To study in secondary school, for example, no one will ever ask you if you can recite the alphabetical order. But there is no doubt that you will be needing the knowledge of the alphabetical order in order to have any hope of succeeding in secondary school.
The same applies to the reasoning here. No one will give a hoot if we don't know how many states there are in this country. The point my criticism attempts to make instead is that similar very verry verrry basic kinds of information that transcend diverse spheres of knowledge - be it geographical, political, geo-political, economic, social etc. - are hard to command by your average contemporary Nigerian.
If you can understand this, I'm sure you'll attest to the truth therein. If not, I'll still respect your contrary opinion - as is your supreme right to have.

This is why IBB once said we are not ready to lead. How can an adult say that Nigeria has 35 states and FCT.

Nigeriand should please advice them. Some of them may be on this forum causing trouble.

2go and twitter are two DIFFERENT entities....

Even Facebook is better....

2go is made up of half-baked secondary school dropouts who do nothing than ask for sex chats...

But hey, even Obama is on Facebook/twitter....

Anyway make I no derail thread, education is the key in Nigeria, and we really need a very sound one

You are correct, in fact you are a human being with functioning brain.

It's really appalling that most young people don't even know simple current affairs, all they do is ignorantly expose the level of their stup*d*ty on social media platforms.
