Open letter to the President Elect Buhari by an aggrieved Nigerian youth

By temitope Steve

Given that The Nigerian national youth policy (2009) defines youth as between 18-35 years,it is expedient to note that since the emergence of the democrated Nigeria, occupants of offices of minister of youth affairs and development have been twice or more the stipulated age of an average youth..
I join forces with other Nigerian youths who make about 60% of the entire population to declare that "Enough is enough" for youth joblessness, idleness, mediocrity and "street roaming" and this plight can only be achieved by a leader whose ambitions are buried in this cause.

I do not intend to bore you with this article and in this regard, I wish to give a brief profile of the incumbent minister of youth development

Mr Boni Haruna

"Mr Boni Haruna was born on 12 June 1957 (aged 58- that's same age with my grandpa grin cheesy ). He studied Political Science at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and was elected as Adamawa State governor in April 1999 (I was not even born then) . Haruna was re-elected governor in April 2003. Shortly before the April 2007 national elections, Haruna switched allegiance to the newly formed Action Congress (AC) party. In April 2009. He competed in the April 9, 2011 election for the Adamawa North Senatorial district on the Action Congress of Nigeria but lost.. "

That profile above is literally one of a fulfilled man and therefore appealing and one to reckon with in the society, however, it doesn't really match the recommendations needed to hold such Office in the wake of the "change era".
The future of a nation depends on the development of its youth and it is no longer an illusion that youths are the leaders of Tomorrow, but isn't it past time for tomorrow?
It takes a widow to know the tribulation of a fellow widow, a pensioner to a fellow pensioner, a convict to a fellow convict and therefore practically, a youth to a fellow youth..
Left to me, I don't think we need an old man with all the achievements in the world, all I think we need is a young man (youth) with good records, unquestionable leadership character, positive contributions to his immediate society and an idealistic being..
One who would know how best to improve the standard of living of youths, establish lucrative ventures for youth development, promote inventions and creativity, and also mobilise for an enabling environment..
We have elected our president, Buhari because we believe only him has the capacity to bring about the change we so much crave for and nevertheless, believe our advice and our positive contributions to the creation of a new Nigeria shall not fall on deaf ears..
I implore the president elect not to act under pressure in making decisions and policies but to trust in God to lead his people aright..
God bless Nigeria
God bless Nairaland..
God bless the Nigerian youths

We need a minister with whom we can relate with..
Most youths don't even know the name and/or profile and biography of the incumbent minister for youth development..

This should stop!! Please save us from wretchedness and indulgence in unlawful acts..
