Leave SafariGirl ALONE! ! ! ! ! ! ! Haba!!!
Look guys, I've gone thru all the comments and TRUTH BE TOLD, Mrs Awoniyi did or said nothing wrong to mijestic...(Mijestic's response was super hostile). She even said 'please'... Kai!!! Maybe, just maybe, the anti-safarigirl-guys' testosterone levels hv gotten so high that it affect their limbic system and other vital brain areas linked to personality... Why cant u guys(billante, mijestic, and co) drop the stupid chauvinistic attitude and act gentlemanly? You shouldn't treat a lady right just coz she's a lady... NO! You do so coz You're gentlemen... Which none of u are (yeah, it's harsh but it's true). A lot of u misjudge, misinterpret, and twist her comments... AND DAT DUDE WHO MENTIONED SUMTIN LYK WOMEN AND THE KITCHEN OR WOMEN SHUD RESPECT MEN STUFF Shud get this... You dont demand respect frm women... You earn it... Speaking generally. IT IS ONLY IN MARRIAGE THAT WIVES ARE 'OBLIGED' AND HAVE A DUTY TO SUBMIT TO AND RESPECT THEIR HUSBANDS. You see... If a woman who is not ur wife respects u then u must be doing sumtin rite but dont expect such respect 4m all women coz they aren't ur wives. And I'm nt saying ladies shud treat men lyk trash but THE TRUTH IS, IT RESTS WITH THE MAN TO LIVE THE LIFE THAT EARNS A LADY's respect. Remember, if ur boss is a woman, u owe her ur respect nt d oda way round. But she will respect u nonetheless if u're a REAL man. WHO'S A REAL MAN? A Man who will never feel good about running down a lady. A MAN WHO'S BUSY BUILDING HIMSELF FOR THE BEST THAT LADIES CANT HELP BUT ADMIRE HE'S THE REAL DEAL. He GOT vision... And ladies respect a man wit vision. A man who understands that women are made for global impact also. I HAVE A SISTER WHO'S LIKE ME IN ALMOST EVERY WAY. I tell her she can be no.1 in her field coz Dominance in a field has no respect 4 gender(ask florence seriki of omatek, Susan hockfield of MIT, Nancy pelosi of U.s. Congress etc etc). GUYS SHUD NOT AND NEVA LOOK DOWN ON LADIES. This matter is a subtle one... You may neva know how chauvisnistic you are... Pls watch it.
AND AS FOR THE GHANAIANS, I SAY 'AKWAABA' but na we get this cup sha *big smiles*

LET's move on in peace, love, tolerance and...

GO GO GO 'SUPER' FLYING EAGLES! ! ! ! ! ! ! !...

Please Mr................ Would u allow ur sister behave this way. Chimamanda Adichie n those names u mentioned wouldnt be where they are if the utilize every opportunity to insult a human being(a man) imagine telling someone to shove wateva down his azzzz. Must she reply with insults? Na so normal human being de behave? The issue here is flying eagles not safarigirl and her attitude towards men on nairaland. I dont like being drawn into e fights so i rarely comment on nairaland. Like she said she is 'mentally unstable'. I think she needs a job or maybe she needs love #AWONIYI. Ones standing or status on nairaland doesnt determine status in life. Plzzz this thread has been derailed enough. Mek una let silent followers like us follow in peace. Comparisons with 1987 are not valid, whilst the 87 team was good they were fairly naive too. In 1985, it was the under 16 that Nigeria won, not the under 17 . The boys were just 14, 15. And they were not overaged. In 1987, these boys were not even 18. Ugbade played in 1987 and 1989 WYCs.

The team was good but naive. The 1989 team was not as good but they played in the final.

Now, we already have players in Europe, even those that are not yet in Europehave had trials. There is no naivety.

Well u should know well enough that an U17 success does nt authomatucally translate to U20 success. Fact that Mexico finished second at U17 doesnt mean they will perform well at U20. Infact fact that Nigeria won the U17 doesnt mean they are favourites to win the U20.History has repeated itself severally that no country has won U17 and 2yrs later won d U20.
This same Mexico won the U17 in 2011 and could nt go beyond 2nd round @ 2013 U20.
Our Nigeria won U17 in 1985, won AYC 1987 & crashed out at grp stage at U20 in 1987 even losing to Brazil in the first game.
Nigeria won U17 in 1993 & finished 3rd at AYC in 1995.
Nigeria won U17 in 2007 & finished 3rd @ AYC and second rnd exit in 2009.

The Brazil we are playing didnt even qualify for the last U17 & that doesnt mean they cannot produce a quality squad for the U20.

I hope we are nt in for a repeat of 1987.
like I said, pundits the world over tipped Mexico to beat Mali. The same pundits who are tipping Brazil to beat Nigeria based on pedigree.

This is not based on U17 showing, but based on past performances in the U20 tournament, which you would know, Mali does not have a strong pedigree compared to Mexico. If pundits were judging based on the U17, then Nigeria should have been favourites to win Brazil and not the other way around.

I hope you now understand where the soccer pundits base their judgment. Once again, Mali who last won an U20 game over a decade ago, pulled off an upset on Mexico, who have won the cup multiple times.

Yahaya Fights Moses Simon for Brazil Start At Last Training Session

It will be a straight fight between Musa Yahaya and Moses Simon for who will start for the Flying Eagles against Brazil on Monday in an opening U20 World Cup clash in New Zealand.

Musa Yahaya appears to be ahead in this battle as he was again considered ahead of Gent forward Moses Simon in Sunday’s final training before the showdown against the five-time champions.

Otherwise, coach Manu Garba appears to have settled for a defence of skipper Musa Mohammed, Mustapha Abdullahi, Wilfred Ndidi and Zaharadeen Bello to give cover to goalkeeper Joshua Enaholo.

The midfield has defensive midfielder Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Ifeanyi Matthew playing a more attacking role in the engine room with Kelechi Iheanacho enjoying a free role while playing behind the twin strikers – Taiwo Awoniyi and Isaac Success.

The likes of birthday boy Kingsley Sokari and Godwin Saviour could also be introduced at some point in the fray.

On-form Saviour could play either in midfield or as second striker with Sokari is a good cover for Iheanacho.

Meanwhile, Monday’s U20 World Cup Group E match between Nigeria and Brazil will be handled by Italian referee Orsato Danielle to be assisted by compatriots Tonolini Mauro and Manganelli Lorenzo as well as Liani Liran from Israel.

Kick-off of the opening Group E showdown will be 1pm local time, which is 2am on Monday in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the Flying Eagles will be cheered on by at least 60 Nigerians who are resident in New Zealand.

The fans are expected to make the five-hour bus ride from Auckland to New Plymouth.

Nigerian High Commissioner to Australia, who also supervises New Zealand, Cecilia Yahaya, has also confirmed she will attend the match.

The more I read this kind of news, the faster I think we need to sack Stephen Keshi.

Just last week, the Super Eagles played a goalless draw with Spotlight FC and Keshi said he was satisfied with the performance. This was the same Spotlight team that the Flying Eagles beat 3-1 back in January in Katsina and after the win, Garba said that though the win was commendable, he knows his team can still do better.

Two coaches. Two different mentality.

which means the flying eagles can easily beat keshi's super eagles and thats not good. I know thats keshi's last chance, if he messes around he wont get to coach any national team in naija again.

In 1985, our under 16 was chosen from secondary schools. Age cheating started when we started picking from the league.

Also, Nigeria would have had a world class by 1990 if the kids were allowed to go abroad.

only started watching this guys rom the U17 World Cup, so I didn't note a lot of people. I had only heard of Idowu at U17, but I didn't know him facially, so anyone I tagged U17 simply means I only saw what he looks like at the U17. I just saw Idowu's face some weeks ago. Prior to that, I knew of him but never saw him.

I know Manu got Enaholo from MFM U20 last year so he's definitely a newbie. Thanks for the correction on the rest

Ok spot on I was wrong on Enaholo too

Big Match Feature:U20 WCup Nigeria v Brazil, Fans Anxious

Sadly it will played in the wee hours of the morning and may not get the deserving audience as most viewing centers are still coming to grips with the paralysis caused by the acute fuel shortage being experienced within the country's borders presently.

Furthermore since the U20 WC in New Zealand is being shown by StarTimes - who have supposedly obtained the exclusive broadcast rights - accessibility will also be a problem for those who only have terrestrial TV.

Nevertheless the game between Nigeria and Brazil in on Monday in New Plymouth remains gargantuan if not for two specific reasons.

Slow and Steady wins the race

First of all it will put on world display a team that has been built the right way and that has not been hastily thrown together or for lack of a better term “the Naija way” weeks before a tournament. Their development has been transparent, gradual , and void of any controversy.

In one word proper.

Three years ago the core of the team were introduced to us as the U17 World Champions. They are now back with their newer exceptional mates to vie for next stage in the Fifa age group tourneys under the continued and amazing tutelage of coach Manua Garba who assumed the reigns when the late great Yemi Tella passed away.

Nigerian fans can smell the Cup....but will they raise it ?

They are back to show the world what Africa already knows namely that the African champion is not just a team of athletically gifted players like their dead ball specialist Captain Courageous Musa, Mr. Beng-beng-beng Taiwo Awoniyi or Manchester City’s wunderkind Ihenacho - but one that plays to instructions and is simply unflappable.

So if the Flying Eagles tame Brazil and go on to at least dress for the Final game in Auckland on June the 20th it will underline in full effect and for all to witness, the proper modus operandi deployed by the NFF and hopefully spawn its replication at each and every level from now on.

Breaking the Jinx

The game is also of major significance because against Nigeria the Brazilians up till now have been simply better. In the four times the two teams have faced each other, Nigeria has only managed one draw and has lost all other games.

Worse still, Nigeria has failed to hit the back of the Seleção Sub-20 Net even once while allowing in an eye popping nine goals. This means (when one eliminates the solitary 0-0 draw) that the South Americans score an average of three times each game against the West Africans or every 30 minutes. Even against Argentina the team with 6 WC titles and one more than Brazil, has Nigeria had a better time.

Everybody in the Nigeria is aware of this whammy and are praying to end this jinx once and for all at the Stadium Taranaki.

So when Manu Garba (above) says "We are a united team who have conquered the world at the U-17 level and I believe we are ready to take on any team. We are confident in our ability to beat Brazil” he speaks for millions and correctly reflects the ‘stimmung’ in the big cities such as Lagos, to the deep interior to places Orlu or Epe where the fans are just as dedicated and wishful.

Well fate may be on Garba’s side because the Brazilians are arriving in New Zealand not with their usual flair and swagger. Simply put they toiled during the continental qualifiers and sputtered in pre-tournament friendlies making people scratch their heads and ask if this was not the same country that had scored more goals at this level that anybody else, while introducing us to the likes of Ronaldinho, Kaka and Oscar?

Seemingly the big wigs at the CBF ( the Brazilian Football Association) were just as perplexed and made a coaching change on May the 8th just days before the tournament by forcing out Alexandre Gallo.

Their new coach is Rogério Micale[ and while he hopes that three weeks will be enough time for his team to understand his Play Book and play according to his wishes, he is already very wary of the Flying Eagles saying ‘Nigeria always cause us problems. They’re a strong team, technically good with good players.’

Never have truer words been said.

Game Time: 2 AM (WAT) Monday June 1st

New Plymouth, Stadium Taranaki,

Projected Game Time Conditions: 12 Celsius Humidity 85% Wind 6.8 MPH

Iheanacho: I want to be best player in the world

Flying Eagles star Kelechi Iheanacho has said his biggest dream is to be crowned the best footballer in the world.

Manchester City starlet Iheanacho, who only turned 18 in December, is in New Zealand with Nigeria for the FIFA U20 World Cup and all eyes are on him after he was voted the MVP of the 2013 FIFA U17 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates.

Iheanacho has been the most popular Nigeria star for media interviews here in New Zealand and he revealed his biggest dream to FIFA TV.

He declared: “I hope to continue to make progress in my career and one day be the best player in the world. I hope God will help me to achieve this. That’s my dream.”

Manchester City watch Flying Eagles

Iheanacho scored six goals as Nigeria won a record fourth U17 World Cup title in superb style two years and he said he wishes to surpass this with the U20s.

“I am 100% ready to make an impact at this World Cup, even more than at the U17 World Cup,” he vowed.

“We want to win something for Nigeria as a team, and I hope I can do good things for the team.”

He added: “Most of the players were not available when we won the U17 World Cup two years ago, but they are now with us and we are a lot stronger than in 2013. We will go far in this tournament.

“There is a lot to say about this team because we have a lot of potentials. We are individually talented.

“We have to show our strength as a team, we have to show confidence, individual talent, what the coaches have taught us and everything that will give us the edge against all the countries who have qualified for this World Cup.

“We have to fight to win this tournament by God’s grace.”

Iheanacho is on fire!

He further said the U20 World Cup will be great opportunity to prove his worth at Manchester City, where he is yet to make his first-team debut.

“This is a perfect opportunity to show Manchester City what I am capable of especially because I was injured for a couple of months,” he said.

“I will work hard to make my club and my country proud at this World Cup.”

Quotes of the Day

Quotes: Uruguay-Serbia

Uruguay coach Fabian Coito
The game went the way we'd envisaged. Considering the opposition, we had expected a hard-fought encounter in terms of individual battles, challenges in the air and every aspect of the game. Fortunately we were able to keep the opposition in check and get a favourable result. We're in a very even group; the three matches are going to be extremely tough for all four teams.

Serbia coach Veljko Paunovic
I'm very proud of my players. I think they put in a great performance; their mentality was really good and they stayed true to our style of play throughout the game. We reacted really positively when we conceded the goal – we didn't go to pieces, which is a good sign. I'd like to congratulate Uruguay and wish them luck for the future.

Quotes: Portugal-Senegal

Senegal coach Joseph Koto:
"The first goal came from a mistake, a lapse in concentration. My player played a pass he should never have been playing. That put us in a strange situation for the rest of the game. By pushing for an equaliser, that created space for them and they scored two more goals at the end. The scoreline isn't an accurate reflection of the match. We were up against a highly experienced team and that's what made the difference."

Portugal coach Helio Sousa:
"The opening goal didn't come as a surprise because we like to start matches on the front foot. And if we can get the breakthrough in the first minute, all the better. We had some problems because Senegal are a good team, but we should have killed off the game earlier. We created enough chances to do so but didn't manage to convert them. Luckily we stayed strong, dealt with the situation and eventually made it 3-0, which was the right result."

Quotes: Qatar-Colombia

Qatar coach Felix Sanchez:
My players performed at a high level; they tried hard and were up against a powerful team, one of the strongest at the event. We will analyse our strengths and weaknesses. We have [at least] two more games still to go and we will try to show the best of our abilities. We know that this is a great tournament with some very strong opponents, but with the attitude we displayed today, I'm sure we'll come away with something. We're not going to give in.

Colombia coach Carlos Restrepo:
We showed clearer thinking in the first half. In the second half Qatar reacted and we lost control of possession, so we were unable to threaten their box much. I'm very pleased because it was our opening game of the tournament and at times the team displayed a lot of personality in their play up against a very strong defensive unit. We have to be more consistent, though.

Quotes: Mexico-Mali

Mali coach Fanyeri Diarra
I'm amazed by the great shape my players are in physically. They're up to the task even though they're coming to the end of the regular season at club level. In a tournament like this one, the first match is vital. Leaving here with three points means the lads will be under much less pressure going into our second game on Wednesday against Serbia.

Mexico coach Sergio Almaguer
We need to critically analyse what happened in this game. As a team, we need to play with a bit more intelligence and focus. We had chances throughout the match but failed to take them. This was only the first match, though, so we need to look forward because we've still got more games to come.

there will be no injuries by Gods grace.. Amen.

The team wasnt built around any particular individual. They would still conquer. Awoniyi was relatively unknown till Isaac got injured. He stepped in and never looked back. I believed they would still have won but not with the margins that they did: they would have won by 2-0, 2-1 etc. I started showing lots of respect to this team not by what they did in Senegal but by their victories over Enyimba and Kano Pillars during the super 6 and also in their second match in Ghana. They had played a draw against their under 20, then the Ghana boys were shuffled to inflict heavy defeat on them but the Flying Eagles beat them 2-0 in the second friendly match with the Ghana boys kicking the hell out of them which resulted in Yahaha sustaining injury that ruled him out of the AYC in Senegal.

I pray they find their scoring boots and the cohesion that has made them come this far.

just like Awoniyi replaced Isaac, I'm sure Manu would have had a good replacement for KC. We hope to be injury-free, but watch out for Hungary, I just have a feeling they'll play like Sweden

I think they would play more like the Austrians and Germans. They have tall and strong players and also technically good from the few videos i have seen.
