mikron:we overcame CIV in 2013 too despite the odds against us. I personally don't think we'll get to meet Germany just like we never got to meet the dreaded Brazilian U17 team that were ripping others apart. Admitted, Germany is easily in one of the weakest groups (in favt, the weakest group) in this tournament with Fiji(debutants) Honduras and the Uzbeks who have little or no pedigree at this stage, so what we could be seeing now are just the perks of being placed in an easy group. If it was Nigeria, Korea,Qatar and Fiji in one group, we'd be 11 goals up too 2 Likes |

mikron:worn out as in tired after facing a few tough teams.I am not faithless, just being realistic.I believe in this team but wishing to face one of the tournament favourites as early as the R16 is pure madness. The same thing happened against Brazil when most fans were predicting outrageous scorelines like 5-0 in favour of the Flying eagles.Who knows? Maybe we would have beaten (or possibly beat) them if we meet them at the latter stages of the tournament.By then, the players would have understood each other better and would be too hot to handle for any team. 1 Like |

For those clamouring for a draw, yes it will be nice to avoid Germany but i doubt Manu will come out for draw because he wants to win every match in this tournament. More so a strategy to have a draw can affect us (what if Hungary pulls a last min shocker and we lose?). I say we come all out for a win and at worse settle for a draw. |

Every game carries its own story and happenings. Based on what Fiji played in their 1st match wud u all hv tot the hondurans will fall to them? The Flying Eagles are back in the hunt and we will meet the germans. IT WILL BE THE GAME THAT SEES US SEND THE STRONGEST MESSAGE OF INTENT TO BE CHAMPIONS IN NZ for we will triumph. Wow! A lot of 'thermometer fans' here... Hahaha... Anyway, We don't need ur 'unshakeable' belief in this team... The most important thing is that the boys believe in themselves and know what they can do. It really doesn't matter who in life believes in u coz if u dont believe in urself, u cant win. It's far better to have no one believe in u but u believe in urself than to have every1 believe in u but u do not have the slightest iota of belief in urself. IF ONLY A LOT OF FANS AND ANALYSTS HERE 'KNOW' THIS TEAM THE WAY I KNOW THEM, THEN THEY WUD JUST RELAX AND STAY CALM COZ THIS TEAM WILL SURELY DELIVER... Mark my words. The Hungarians beta get ready coz we go use them do practice ahead of the Germany game... And trust me when I say this... The germans dont wanna meet us... *big smiles* GO GO GO SUPER FLYING EAGLES! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! |

avoiding Germany is not cowardice, it is rather a wise decision. No need running into the jaws of a lion when u can corner it into a trap, the flying eagles are still uncoordinated, heck we are yet to decide our strongest starting eleven. If we meet the Germans, ofcourse we will fight bravely but we would lose and it will be deja vu all over again. I don't find any tournament Nigeria isn't participating interesting, if d fe crash out, that would be d end of the tournament for me 1 Like |

The way things are going we could qualify even before we kick a ball. If Senegal or New Zealand fail to win, we could lose our next match and still go through. What a weird game we'd have if Hungary also wants to avoid Germany. 4 Likes |

Ghana oust Panama, top group Ghana have qualified for the last 16 at New Zealand 2015 as Group B winners after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Panama at Auckland's North Harbour Stadium. The Panamanians, who exit as a result of the defeat, were undone by a solitary Emmanuel Boateng goal, and missed a late penalty through Fidel Escobar. Ghana completely dominated the early exchanges and it was the Tetteh brothers, Samuel and Benjamin, who were causing most of the problems. The former has been one of the stars of the Black Satellites' campaign and in four minutes he jinked skilfully to the byline and measured a cutback for his younger sibling. Benjamin couldn't oblige with the finish though, making good contact but directing the ball wide of the left-hand post. Tetteh Jr was soon threatening again, though, and might have scored just a minute later. First, having sprung the offside trap, he forced a good save from Jaime De Gracia, then curled the rebound over with the keeper stranded. At the other end, Panama had offered little during the opening half-hour but they did finally come to life as the first period neared its conclusion. Indeed, they would have take the lead but for a magnificent block from defender Kingsley Fobi, who slid in to save his side after Edson Samms had looked all set to convert Escobar's low cross. Ghana remained the better side, though, and it took a brilliant save from De Gracia to keep the scores level. Benjamin Tetteh could not have struck his angled, left-foot volley any better, but the Panama No1 somehow got a hand to the ball and diverted it on to the far post. Having been a largely dull affair, the game was transformed in the final ten minutes as both sides abandoned all caution and went for the win. Panama substitute Ismael Diaz was the first to threaten, bursting past a couple of challenges and into the box, but shot wide when a goal appeared certain. That miss became all the more costly a couple of minutes later when Boateng gave Ghana the lead. It was a tremendous solo effort from the substitute, who drove forward, twisted away from the challenge of Francisco Narbon and curled a superb 20-yard shot just inside the right-hand post. Panama weren't done yet though and, after Jesus Araya had rattled the crossbar, they earned an 89th-minute penalty and a golden opportunity to grab a point. However, Escobar - the man fouled - slipped on his run-up and sent a wayward kick high and well wide. 1 Like |

safarigirl: Which one is VIV again? And lady, this is U20 & nt like U17. I understand d fears of those that are afraid of Germany. Have u seen d German team play? They play with so much maturity and precision. They came to this tourney, jst like the Brazilians also with young professionals. 70% of the Nigerian team have nt even started playing professional football. Most are academy players. Things like these count especially at d crucial stages. That's y i have been quite conservative with my expectation from our team. Good enough a good no of them are17-18 yrs olds which makes dem legible to play in d next WYC hopefully then they would have become full professionals. Can u c dat Success is a step ahead of the others? He has been a full prpfessional for well over 18months. 2 Likes |
