Uzbekistan is trashing Austria 2-0. The same Austria that trashed German 4-1. The same Germany that trashed Uzbekistan 3-0. To me, Germany is overrated. 4 Likes |

chaberry: Their group was easy for a title contender. Uzbekistan was not dominated by germany but they are from the same region as Qatar, Korea and Myanmar. Qatar is the strongest team in that group. The Senegalese should now get to the semis. |

chaberry:it's an easy group. Nothing is happening other than doggedness vs. Complacency. One team underestimated the other. Austria thought the Uzbeks are shiiit and failed to prepare adequately. Just as Germany probably thinks we won't be much of a hassle 2 Likes |

mrham03:nope. It just turns out that Ghana was in a weak group. These Uzbeks wouldn't win Nigeria. All the teams from Ghana's group are out. Y'all couldn't even produce a 'best third place' |

chaberry:the Serbia that Hungary was hoping to meet, no be them kick them out? What are the chances 'easy' Serbia wouldn't have won us? If you're playing hide and seek, then the team does not deserve to be here. This championship is for the best of the best, anyone with a losers mentality should have stayed home. |

Manu sticks with Flying Eagles winning start XI Flying Eagles coach Manu Garba has named the same starting line-up for Thursday’s U20 World Cup Round of 16 clash against Germany as he did for his team’s last two wins against North Korea and Hungary. It again means stars like Kelechi Iheanacho, Isaac Success and Moses Simon will again have to start from the bench. In training, Gent forward Moses Simon looked in pole position to start in attack, but the African champions have eventually opted for the tried and trusted. Defensive midfielder Akinjide Idowu has thus kept his place in the team after he was not involved in the opening game against Brazil. He has brought much more tactical disciplne in the middle of the park with his untiring marking and he will again be expected to break the German attack on Thursday. The Flying Eagles are blessed with an embarrassment of attacking options, so much so that coach Manu has rated his strike force as one of the best at this World Cup. In that case, expect the likes of attacking talents like Iheanacho, Success, Moses Simon and Musa Yahaya to have a role to play at some point in this contest. Flying Eagles starting XI vs Germany Joshua Enaholo – Musa Mohammed (Skipper), Mustapha Abdullahi, Wilfred Ndidi, Zaharadeen Bello – Ifeanyi Ifeanyi, Akinjide Idowu, Kingsley Sokari, Bernard Bulbwa – Godwin Saviour, Taiwo Awoniyi Meanwhile, Saudi Arabian referee Fahad Al Mirdasi will handle Thursday’s U20 World Cup Round of 16 clash between African champions Nigeria and the European champions Germany. He will be assisted by compatriot Abdulah and Abu Bakar Al Amri from Oman. Fourth referee is Henry Bejarano from Costa Rica. Germany will wear white shirt with red trimmings over white shorts, while Nigeria maintain their all-green strips. The match kicks off at 7.30pm local time at the Christchurch Stadium. That will be 8.30am Thursday in Nigeria. AFRICANFOOTBALL.COM 1 Like |

Nigeria has to score first, nothing as bad as chasing a game. The line up is built for defensive strength. |

tbaba1234:Hope manu will not revert to his long ball tactics... I have told Manu that retaining possession by tiki taka is what fit these boys most-to this he concurred but he was still exploring the option of long balls.. Hmm.. Make I still believe #manuknowsbest 1 Like |

The germans press up the field so Nigeria has to try and get the ball forward, quickly to exploit the inevitable gaps. Counter Attacks are key . |

Germans shoot from outside the area a lot. Idowu and Ifeanyi must close down and prevent them from having clean strikes at goal. |

Set pieces, The germans would have watched the brazilian game and would have noticed how poorly we did on setpieces particularly corners.. We need to be careful about that |

tbaba1234:the best way to play against a high pressing team is to be compact in midfield and hit them with quick counters. Counter- attacks that will leave them dazed and confused. Am sure manu garba has watched their videos so he will prepare for them well. 2 Likes 1 Share |

AIG07: Long balls are not bad. In fact, they could be important. Germany beat Uzbekistan by stealing the ball in their defence. We should aim at going forward quickly. At 3 0, we can keep possession. |
