Certainly working in Nigeria is more beneficial financially than in the US because of tax. I am happy that your mind is in the E&P company. Please note however that activities are however at its lowest ebb because of the oil price and impact of the management in the past few years. It will seems to me that you are a young graduate, I will therefore suggest if you can secure a job with Exxon/Chevron or any other upstream company in US and be transferred to Nigeria. Better as an expat staff but even as local you are better off. 1 Like |

BROS NO COME USE YOUR YANKEE DEGREE CHANCE US FOR HIA OOOO!!! 1 WOULD HAVE THOUGHT A NATURALIZED CITIZEN WITH A DEGREE AND PROBABLY MBA SHOULDN'T WORRY ABOUT HARD LIFE IN YANKEE, SO I WONDER WHY YOU ARE THINKING OF RUNNING AWAY EVEN BEFORE YOU FINISH SCHOOL. SEEMS YOU ARE RUNNING FROM THE BATTLE GROUND BEFORE THE WAR BEGAN. IF YOU HAVE UNCLES IN THE CABAL, WORK SURE, BUT IF YOU NO KNOW ANYBODY, YOU ARE WELCOME TO JOIN THE VERY LONG QUEUE. 3 Likes |

Go to Europe. France or Germany would offer you an easy start to a better life. Most oil firms in Nigeria are no longer recruiting as they used to. Only Divine intervention takes people into oil firms nowadays. Hey, foreign degree certificates are littered all over the place right now. Be wise! 1 Like |

Guy, its a wise choice u are about to make, but i must warn u , its not gonna be a walk in the park am a returnee too, and av not been finding it easy at all, the worse is that i akways have to tell people why i left the land of plenty to the land of nothing, some dont bother asking, but when they see my blue passport the next tin they say is old boy them do u frm village .Especially wen u av student loans to pay and they dont know what u doin with ur money. But at the end i believe i will be better off than my friends who stayed back in the states. Again if u are the high maintenace type stay where u are abeg, because sometime i enjoy staying without light just like every other nigerian, n i take public transport. But again in years to come ur mates will regret not followinh your way. 9 Likes |

Not exactly true. Depends on what job you have in the US. Also many reputable companies and multi nationals will ensure you pay the correct amount of tax in Nigeria compared to the smaller ones who don't care. On a like for like basis, you earn a lot more in the US. When I say like for like I mean banker to banker, doctor to doctor etc not comparing a menial job worker in the US to a professional in Nigeria as we like to do here on nairaland. He said he will be getting an MBA. Can you compare MBA salaries in Nigeria to the US? aldame: 1 Like |

BayoAdex: You must be a practically inclined person to succeed very well in Nigeria. Ensure that the company you want to work for in Nigeria employs you in US and posts you down home before you relocate. If you can go into production and manufacturing, you will make it. Start taking tutorials on manufacturing different items which command market demand. |

do what ur mind tells u as experience is the best teacher depends on ur vision and plan, Oil industry need innovation so also power sector. Internet, waste management, energy generation these are all growth areas only those with foresight can see the money to be made if nigeria is organised Mike adenuga was a cab driver in NY and came back to build globacom. Ben bruce too came back as an engineer you will get a lot of practical and useful experience in nigeria oil company that the white will not want you to get. if your lucky to get a job or work with a contractor for oil companies that will be good experience for u. IN the end if u tire u can always restep to square 1 |

From my opinion get all the necessary papers to become a US Citizen before coming down to Nigeria, should incase securing your dreaming Job doesn't work out, u can fly back without any rejection or denial of Visa by American Embassy. A lot of youths here in Nigeria are Jobless, we have hundred thousands of them lining up for US Visa everyday, majority of them are being denied and rejected Visa. With Us citenzhip papers u can fly back sharply if things doesn't work out. 1 Like |

BayoAdex: It is far better for Monkey to dey work and baboon dey chop for US, than for the Monkey to come to nigeria where hin no go see work and baboon no go kuku chop. You pay your taxes in america and you get the benefits of paying your taxes, In Nigeria, even when you pay your taxes promptly, you still won't get benefits. Need I remind you, Electricity is still luxury in Nigeria, Accessible drinkable portable water is still vision 2050 in nigeria.. What state in yankee do you reside, cos mentioning Lagos, to settle down is out of it for me in nigeria, A Report I read puts average life expectancy in lagos at 54 years becos of the hustle and bustle. I can't advise you come from yankee and choose lagos. For oil and gas work, why not bayelsa or calarbar, more serene environments.. I suspect you are just pulling our legs, cos nobody goes to "God's own country" "The Big Apple" and thinks of wanting to come back.. If this #Buhari regime fails me, which I pray does not, I will quietly pack my load, leave Nigeria and never look back.. Kapish. 4 Likes 1 Share |
