My only disappointment remains the state of hotel presidential.

What does it matter? It's work by the government? And Sullivan was never the government.

That is one of our many developemental mistakes in Nigeria, where projects are seen as "my works", "his works" etc. And where projects are undertaken for political gains rather than with actual development in mind.

ICC remains Chimaroke's work? Perhaps that is why it is still abandoned.

The fact we cannot say if this is "Sullivan's work" or "Ugwuanyi's work" is heart-warming.

The thinking that the project is connected to Peace is "bear-palour talks".

I like the fact that the median of Chime avenue is green, but the grass needs to be kept low.
We also need palm trees to line that road to give it a truly awesome feel of a great city center.

Someone should please upgrade Chime avenue from an okay to an awesome avenue complete with trees, lined streets and all. It is afterall part of Enugu CBD in a way.

Someone accused me of deceit posting a non-Enugu picture in this thread. I merely posted the picture to illustrate how we could use trees to transform Chime avenue's wide median and not to pass off the picture as Enugu. Enugu is beautiful enough on its own.

Anyhow, to convince those thinking i wanted to pass the picture for Enugu, i want to make this disclaimer.

They should lease the bloody hotel presidential to any serious investor. I don't care who, my interest is that the hotel is not allowed to rot away. It will be shameful if that legacy is not maintained.

Investor to Revive Hotel Presidential Enugu with N4 Billion Makeover

In a bid to restore the Hotel Presidential Enugu to its former glory, the Enugu State Government has granted a concession on the Hotel to E-Hospitality Services Limited (EHSL). EHSL will undertake the project through a special purpose company – Primeview Hotels Limited. EHSL will also engage a suitable International hotel management company to operate the Hotel post renovation.
EHSL expects that with the growing FDI flowing into the Southeast zone and the commencement of direct international flights into Enugu airport and significant foreign traveller traffic, the hotel is expected to become the destination of choice in the region.
Enugu is strategically located, being approximately an hour’s drive from the state capitals of Anambra, Abia, Imo and Ebonyi and about ninety minutes from Port Harcourt. The hotel when completed will play a key role in facilitating business and socio-economic activities across the South-East and South-South zones.


EHSL has assembled a team of world class design and engineering consultants and produced a redevelopment concept for the hotel.
A contractor has also been mobilised to the site and has commenced the stripping of the hotel in preparation for the redevelopment works.
Once the pride of eastern Nigeria, the Hotel Presidential Enugu was one of the first iconic buildings built post-independence as part of the Eastern government’s industrialization plan created under the late Dr. Mike Okpara. With a unique offering of recreational and lifestyle elements, the Hotel Presidential quickly became a popular destination for Nigerians and foreign visitors.
The collapse of the pride of the East led the Government of Enugu state to concession the Hotel to capable hands to bring it back to life and upgrade it to world class standards expected to cost over N4 billion naira. The Hotel sits on prime land within the Independence Layout Enugu and is approximately 15 minutes by car from the Enugu International airport.
At the time it was open to the public, the Hotel offered 100 rooms on 4 floors with recreational facilities such as swimming pools, tennis courts and a night club considered best in class.


However, years of poor management, particularly during military rule, culminated in a complete rundown of the hotel and subsequent closure of the once iconic facility.
The proposed redevelopment involves reconfiguring and modernising the existing hotel facilities such as restaurants, conferencing facility, outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts and increasing the stock of rooms from 100 to 150 rooms. It is expected that the main contract for the redevelopment will be awarded by the end of this year and the hotel ready to be opened by 2017.

Thanks for the lovely pictures that was almost wrecked by that yellow bus, Enugu can make it through tourism but decrepit structures and cars need to be taken care of first.

Iva valley ....... a settlement of people in the outskirts of Enugu. There is a flurry of activities in the outskirts of Enugu as investors buy up lands around here and build new estates. There is a new estate coming up across the road from this old settlement.

As a matter of fact, Enugu has the highest IGR in the SE zone.

I view this typically as a window into the level of corruption around IGR collection and remittance into the state account in some SE states that obviously have more taxable properties and factories than Enugu.

Enugu has truly punched above it's weight when you compare her sterling performance in internal revenue generation and the available resources compared to neighboring states with bigger commercial activites in 2 or 3 major cities! Other SE states need to learn and imbibe Enugu's system of internal revenue remittance.Most importantly, how Enugu makes sure the taxes collected as internal revenue enter government purse and not into private pockets.

It is truly awesome that Enugu can generate far more revenue, in fact, almost double the internal revenue of Anambra and Abia! Something must be wrong in how the later states remit the collected revenue into government purse. Considering the number of taxable properties, market shops and factories in Aba, Umuahia, Onitsha, Nnewi, Awka, something just doesn't add up that Enugu is able to generate far more resources than these cities combined.Somebody is simply collecting taxes in these states and pocketing it. Someone is indeed robbing these states blind!

I guess ENUGU have better structure on ground for revenue collection and machinery in place to check loopholes. But it still beats my imagination how ENUGU performed better in revenue generation than Ogun state for example ,with all the industries littered everywhere in the state. As for Anambra,I am very disappointed and this goes to show we have allot of work to do when it comes to revenue generation. I know we can do better even more with all the industries starting up. As a matter of fact,Anambra has improved with regards to revenue challenges and it will only get better with the Obiano push.

The problem is that multiple taxation is very common in Enugu unlike Anambra where the government consider small businesses as bedrock of emerging economies and even donate big firms to provide social animinities, the recent upgrade at Rojenny costed N150m while Anambra donated N30m, Obi gave Innoson money to tar the roads that read to his company.
Recently the state map out a billion naira fro her small business arm called ASBA, they are giving money to small businesses and allow them to enjoy tax holidays, this is what government in East should be doing.

My assertion is that Anambra would have done better if the government is to tax every taxable activity going on in the state
