omicron: You made very valid points that goverent should be a continuum of development, but as Chime himself aptly demonstrated, we cannot take continuity for granted. After all, he was Chimaroke's attorney general for 8 years, yet he abandoned the key projects of that administration as the ICC. What more can we expect of Ugwuanyi that was not even part of his government. Thus, Spyder is right to ask his question. If it were truly Ugwuanyi completing projects that Chime started, we have cause to rejoice that continuity has finally smiled upon Enugu state. 1 Like |

Someone accused me of deceit posting a non-Enugu picture in this thread. I merely posted the picture to illustrate how we could use trees to transform Chime avenue's wide median and not to pass off the picture as Enugu. Enugu is beautiful enough on its own. Anyhow, to convince those thinking i wanted to pass the picture for Enugu, i want to make this disclaimer. Disclaimer: The Picture i posted in the post below is not Enugu! It is a street in Rwanda which i used to illustrate how the govt. could beautify Chime avenue road median!!! Cjrane: 2 Likes |

Iva valley ....... a settlement of people in the outskirts of Enugu. There is a flurry of activities in the outskirts of Enugu as investors buy up lands around here and build new estates. There is a new estate coming up across the road from this old settlement. 3 Likes 1 Share

Thanks for the lovely pictures that was almost wrecked by that yellow bus, Enugu can make it through tourism but decrepit structures and cars need to be taken care of first. 1 Like |

centje:Wow, awesome! As a matter of fact, Enugu has the highest IGR in the SE zone. I view this typically as a window into the level of corruption around IGR collection and remittance into the state account in some SE states that obviously have more taxable properties and factories than Enugu. 6 Likes |

cjrane: I don't know how we have managed to keep this type of consistency, Enugu government has been punching above its weight category for some time now 1. Better environment than others, Ensepa has been marvelous, (asides the street sweeping deficiency that is) 2. Speed in payment of salaries and industrial peace 3. Robust transport scheme powered by a good road network 4. Good road marking, and street lighting fittings, bus stops, road signs 5. Good state secretariat 6. Good and well built state university powered by state funds 7. Good hospital management, Parklane, School of health 8. Crime free zone 9. Better shopping malls 10. Better housing estates (including my upcoming estate at Ugwuomu Nike) 4 Likes 1 Share |

Spyder and CJ, you are right. Enugu has truly punched above it's weight when you compare her sterling performance in internal revenue generation and the available resources compared to neighboring states with bigger commercial activites in 2 or 3 major cities! Other SE states need to learn and imbibe Enugu's system of internal revenue remittance. Most importantly, how Enugu makes sure the taxes collected as internal revenue enter government purse and not into private pockets. It is truly awesome that Enugu can generate far more revenue, in fact, almost double the internal revenue of Anambra and Abia! Something must be wrong in how the later states remit the collected revenue into government purse. Considering the number of taxable properties, market shops and factories in Aba, Umuahia, Onitsha, Nnewi, Awka, something just doesn't add up that Enugu is able to generate far more resources than these cities combined.Somebody is simply collecting taxes in these states and pocketing it. Someone is indeed robbing these states blind! 8 Likes |

I guess ENUGU have better structure on ground for revenue collection and machinery in place to check loopholes. But it still beats my imagination how ENUGU performed better in revenue generation than Ogun state for example ,with all the industries littered everywhere in the state. As for Anambra,I am very disappointed and this goes to show we have allot of work to do when it comes to revenue generation. I know we can do better even more with all the industries starting up. As a matter of fact,Anambra has improved with regards to revenue challenges and it will only get better with the Obiano push. 7 Likes |

ChimaAdeoye: At first ,I found it hard to believe but we keep forgetting where we are coming from. Where was Anambra compare to Enugu before Obi and Obiano came calling. Anambra is like a man who is just waking up from COMA! Enugu has a long history of being a capital of Eastern Nigeria and old Anambra, hence it's more organised and civil nature. These things are not magic; Government presence was lacking in Anambra for years, while political crooks like Offor,Ubah family and co used the state finance to enrich themselves. It will not happen overnight. 3 Likes |

The problem is that multiple taxation is very common in Enugu unlike Anambra where the government consider small businesses as bedrock of emerging economies and even donate big firms to provide social animinities, the recent upgrade at Rojenny costed N150m while Anambra donated N30m, Obi gave Innoson money to tar the roads that read to his company. Recently the state map out a billion naira fro her small business arm called ASBA, they are giving money to small businesses and allow them to enjoy tax holidays, this is what government in East should be doing. My assertion is that Anambra would have done better if the government is to tax every taxable activity going on in the state below is what Mr Chris Onyishi an Enugu based social critique wrote on his FB page which i found very disturbing. https://www.facebook.com/chris.onyishi/posts/10205301452273757 our government need to protect small businesses and give them tax incentive, this is why Anambra informal sector is contributing to the GDP of the citizens. am impress with Enugu but she should tone it down a little bit because of small businesses. The problem here is just accountability of the tax collectors to the state government. If the taxing agency collects #50 and accounts for only #10, igr will be falsely recorded at #10, flat. So, loopholes for embezzlement should be identified and corrected 3 Likes |
Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by spyder880(m): 5:57am On Jun 19, 2015 |
BuddahMonk: As the poster above me said, I think its more of an accountability issue, the number of big shops in Nkpor, Obosi, Onitsha, Ogidi, Nnewi and Oba is large enough to increase the IGR by a big margin. (Heavy importers with large warehouses) The big industries are also generating revenue. Some companies in Onitsha has operated for so many years so why give them incentives if they are to grow to stability. |
