The reason why I built my first house in my place of residence, even though is far from my state is because of high cost of living over here. A room self contain then is 80k around 2007 but now is 120 to 130k per year. In my town, a room self contain will be around 18k to 30k per year. You can see the different. If I let out 2 selfcontain at the same period, I might realise between 230 to 250k. If am to pay for 1 bedroom flat, it will be around 250k. If I rent out the 2 selfcontain, I can use it to develop the building in my town. Even though the cost og building here is x3 or x4 compare to that of my town. A trip of sand here's 18k and in my town is 5.5k, but the impacts of the two location is very important in . Maybe I reason that way because I have a personal room in my dad house which make me more comfortable each time I travel home. |

As for me having a house in my home town is the best achievement I have in my lifetime. I know I visit home every two to three years although I have decided to be visiting every year now. But the thought that my parents are leaving and staying in my mansion so to say gives me joy and happiness that I have done something for them. To be frank with you the highest I have stayed in my house is three months but it felt better than 10 years I have leaved abroad. I have never been secured and happy without the thought of city issues. Though my home town is considered town because u also need at least 8 million to get a land there. Igbo please build at your home town. |

I prefer building in one's home town because one can relocate from one city to another, probably as a result of the change of one's job or business. You cannot continue building mansions in all the cities you relocate to.You home town remains your home town. #East, West, North and South; home is the best# |

Many people buid in their village based on past experiences while others do same to secure a retirement home, some others do buid as a way of linking to their root. It is not to showcase wealth in most cases. While some people are here celebrating their failure to own a home in their home town it is obvious that most of those that own village mansions also own houses in the cities 2 Likes |

funkiebully: I'm amazed that people who say they've learnt a lesson from "Abandoned Property" couldn't learn the actual lesson that's supposed to be learnt of never provoking a senseless war. You may not know it but there were Ibos outside "Biafra" and they weren't killed or their property seized. You will live in this life and die within 100yrs. You better enjoy your short life and not think you're here forever |

Mgbadike80:can you stop deluding yourself with that trite argument of Lagos being no man's land. Fashola is not interested in you, that is why common sense should tell you to build in your home town first as that is an investment you can not lose as a result of one ill-tempered government deporting to that village you look with so much disdain. |

So many people in the urban areas are afraid of going to where they descended from/their villages because of the fear of witches and wizards unknowingly to them that there is no hiding place except under the canopy of the Almighty God. But when they died their corpse is being taken to the same place they are afraid of for burial. If only the corpse has some say. 1 Like |

Mansion in the village is often considered your retired age home, a cocoon and a refuge when all the hazzles in the city stop. A nice place to enjoy the rest of your life quietly and peacefully in a natural environment. Waking up every morning listening to the birds singing and enjoying the night sky view of thousands of stars and the shinning moon before you finally go to bed. 1 Like |

It depends on what your future intentions are or which angle you look at It from. For me personally, it would make sense to have a house In the village as a permanent base and be renting in the city especially if you have the kind of job that takes you around from city to city. It therefore wouldn't make sense to build a house in the city if you're going to move again within a short space of time. 1 Like |
