More beautiful "Igbotic" houses are springing up from more parts of Enugu outskirts, this place is Amechi Awkunanaw.

I am actually welcoming this news with mixed feelings. Will this team really meet, will they last, will politics not scatter them? Will it not increase cost of governance?

On the good side, I am happy with the quality of people at the top of the committee. However I would have been happier if Prof. Nebo had made the list. The chairman, Msgr. obiora Ike has been championing entrepreneurship in Enugu, they manage one of the biggest printing press in Enugu, at Ziks Avenue, and has a small vocational school at coal camp. I am also happy, the members are not limited to Enugu state only, it gives me the feel that igbos can still have an Economic team, it just needs the someone to bring the governors, technocrats, Intellectuals and wealthy elites together. Lastly, It's either Ifeanyi is also toeing Chime line of minimal media hype or he is truly slow in kick starting or maybe am too curious to know his line of governance... However, I am still happy he is seriously limiting his dependence on 'National cake'

Where is Rockefeller Foundation? Enugu won something last year, at what point do they come in? Are they part of the Economic Advisory Team?
Please, someone that knows more should educate me...passion007,spyder, BuddahMonk, cjrane, everyone...

BlackPikiN:
^^^^^^ I expected Abia state governor to come up with the same plan/team for Aba and Umuahia but he's still very local with his approach in tackling the problems of Aba and its environs.

Kudos to Enugu state for thinking and acting right.

The dwindling oil fortunes has opened up new ways of thinking for public office holders. Enugu, with a budget of 89 billion, and IGR of 19 billion, would hit the rocks had the state not opted to do things differently. I welcome the advisory committee. At least, these are all high achieving men and I don't think any of them is digging for gold (No gold in Enugu BTW).
Rockefeller only named Enugu as the city to watch out for in Nigeria, more like 30 under 30 to Watch.
Lastly, I think Ugwuanyi should take his time to get his foundation right. That way, he would deserve whatever encomiums his administration earns, as well as be responsible for mistakes, and answerable to heavy criticism, should he err.

I hope Ifeanyi is not inviting trouble to himself. First of all, it will require money to run the 15 man committee.

Secondly, I doubt if the members of the committee would abandon their private engagements to travel to Enugu to hold meetings all the time.

Thirdly, Ifeanyi should know that he is morally bound to carry out the recommendations of the committee because nobody wants to waste his time to offer advice that would be ignored.

What stops Ifeanyi visiting any of the committee members in their respective homes in the evenings and or inviting any of them for a dinner in the state house to deliberate on issues.

Too many cooks they say, spoil the broth. You don't need such committee to know how to govern though it's a welcome development.

Those two bolded lines are my greatest concern. Not really private engagements but official engagements. For instance, Ike Ekweremadu, the Deputy Senate President, Msgr Obiora, Vicar General...

Serious am a bit skeptical about Nebo, as the Minister of Power what did he achieve in Igboland, he couldn't turn around Oji River Power Plant, he could'nt lure for Coal Plant to be developed in Enugu, he couldn't even mediate between Nnaji and Offor so that Geometric will start working.

On the part of Ekweremadu, if you check what those people asking him to step them were talking there are making so much sense, look at Onitsha- Enugu Express where Anambra and Enugu sinators exhibit their billboards how the road look like, pass through the road and see that our so called sinators are nothing but shameless clan of hyenas. I left Ogwashi Ukwu this morning, people were telling me the town is yet to see electric light close half a decade while our daughter NOI is there in Abuja acting more Nigeria than Lugard.

Serious we need to stop seeking advice from politicians because these dolts are taking our simplicity to stupidity.
Ugwuanyi should involve known technocrats and succesful businessmen and women like Berth Nnaji, PEACE Mass, Nnaji, Soludo, Kalu Idika kalu, Leo Stan Ekeh, Frank Nweke Jnr et al for advice and not hardcore and career politicians that are looking for every opportunities to feather their own nest .

I love the term igbotic houses and what it signifies but really is there any thing like the igbo architecture just like people had brazillian architecture and English architecture.
Enugu is really becoming a sprawling, urbanised city where if properly economic planning comes in most igbos would end up retiring to or setting up businesses

Your concerns are genuine.
However, I don't think this group would be anything like the National Confab and it's characteristic profligate waste. But again, there's no talk on remuneration, so what do I know.
Ugwuanyi should run a lean government. I believe this present effort is so as to prioritise government investment. Having conceived the idea of courting some of our finest minds, I believe we should give him time to see what he can achieve. Or, whether he set out on the wrong foot.

We had always entertained such fear right from when he was chosen. But surprisingly, he hasn't disappointed since he appeared so let's exercise patience and watch his government unfold. We might eventually be amazed.

On another note, for those who believe in God, please let's remember these leaders in our prayers, no matter what you have against them, no matter how you don't like Buhari, he will be there till 2019, So the best we can do is pray he delivers good governance for the benefit of all.
God allowed them there for a reason. Some of them may have good hearts but gets corrupted by political associates, 'African Bluetooth' grin excessive demands from relatives and so on. I believe divine intervention can prevent such corruption of mind and our prayers can draw that divine power.

If the calls for Ekweremmadu's resignation was anchored on his inability to attract remarkable federal projects to Igboland, then I support them fully. It is also disheartening to note that ENugu/Onitsha expressway remains a death trap till today. Friends,I still recall that work began on that road since 2007 and it is a shock that it remains uncompleted 8 years later! And their Is sTill no indication of compleTion anytime soon from what I saw and read on this thread.Such a shame!I recall seeing the Umunya section of that road on this thread. That section has completely failed and can easily be a blind spot for robbers to terrorize travellers. Whatever Ekweremmadu did in his constuency was covered in his constituency allowance and for heaven's sake, constructing track roads and erecting ugly and crude looking solar powered street lights is nothing to shout about!
I also have my reservations about Ugwuanyi's 15 man committee but let's see what they can come up with before year ends.
Prof Nebo's inertia in Power Ministry and the barrage of complaints about Iweala's anonymous status in Ogwashi should cause us to convene a town hall meeting of all igbo sons and daughters in governement and drum our expectations into their eyes! #i wish# Damn any error:typing with my phone..Good day!

I think Nebo's case may have resulted from limited time and poor calculation on the part of GEJ's clique of PDP. I posted it several times on this forum that it was very risky waiting for 2nd term to drive development to one's region. Just check it, all those that aggressively involved south east and south south in the Transformation plan of GEJ were kicked out. Stella saw things different, she aggressively made sure Enugu international airport in progressing with others, she got kicked. Barth Nnaji would have done more aside siting power plant in Aba, he got kicked, even when same Sambo was buying up power facilities in Enugu and south east...but was quick to tag Nnaji of being biased.

Well, back to state issues, we may not actually know who and who he met, it's only those who agreed to join the team got announced. What if he actually met those people but they gave excuses...

Let's just watch and see what comes out of it.

We should also encourage our people to build standard office buildings to create more office spaces for businesses eager to move into Enugu.
Investing in real estate can never be unprofitable in an emerging economy. The lack of office spaces is a real impediment and we don't even need skyscrapers. Buying some of those bungalow buildings on Okpara avenue, Ogui road Zik avenue,or Presidential road and replacing them with just 3-5 storey high office buildings as in the picture will do it and create standard office spaces in the city.Such building ground floor also provide appropriate spaces for modern restaurants or even boutiques

It depends on a lot of things

1. The location of the building
2. The age and style of construction
3. The quality and class of finish
4. The parking space for vehicles and kiddies play space
5. How many tenants that live in the compound.
