Customer service in a bank is a very delicate job. You would even get fired for hanging up a phone on a customer. It's a very competitive market out there and every customer is gold to the management.

That's my grouse with that chap! Other than that, he is a smart person!

Nigerian workers are generally rude, these guys do not know the meaning of customer service, including telecom companies

Before things get worse than they already are, I would advise that that ECObank officer (he is probably viewing this thread), should open an NL account and tender an open and hearty apology to Eden, and to all that may have been affected by this incidence. Hopefully the bank might hinge on it when disciplinary actions are being taken on his matter.

Not only the US my brother..Even in the UK or Canada or any country where there is a consumer protection system in place. The CSM goofed ..simple as ABC and his pride won't even make him apologize..imagine, an ordinary branch clerk...not even a decision maker in the bank.
Management would give outrageous target to sales/business development team and also spend huge amount of money on adverts and one clerk would just start rubbishing their hard work.

Training is also a factor, but trust me, Nigerians are a pretty tough bunch to condition properly! I've been involved in training for years, and I still can't put my finger on why we find it difficult (in the generality) to adapt to certain trainings that enhance the human-interphase; the same person would go abroad and adapt pretty fast, and in fact excel!! Culture is mainly the culprit, in my opinion.

Having done Customer Service job myself in a reputable organisation in the UK years back, I find Nigerian Bankers a bunch of jokers. Can't say whether its because of the culture or lack of training. When I came to Nigeria and went to Ecobank, I shook my head in disappointment as the so-called customer service lady was so full of herself, No smile, No eye contact, No friendly tone whatsoever, and of course basic courtesy was totally absent. I remember complaining to a friend about it. Anyone who experiences what real customer service is in the UK will tell you that Nigerians are rude at it. In the UK you will almost think they are falling in love with you but no, they are just being professional and of course raising voice at customer is unthinkable. I suggest banks should be sending them to the UK for a weeks course. I blame bank management who don't want to spend money to expose their staff and train them properly.

I have witnessed the way Ecobank treat their customers, I closed my acct with them in 2013 cos of their customer service. Had to tell everyone around me that its the worst bank when dealing with customers. Maintaining my GTB, Diamind and fcmb; I can boldly tell u diamond and gtb Customer service is top notch compared to Ecobank. They should work on their staffs. Kappish

No matter what, a customer care agent is a customer care agent and no matter how rude a customer is, it's their job to be super nice.

U shouldnt comment except u Bank with Ecobank. That is typically what u get from some of their staffs especially the person issuing ATM pin. M a first hand witness to all this rubbish. U needed to see wat the man did to one woman who was waiting for them to credit her account ,she was so humiliated n he even asked if its because of that little amount she was disturbing him. Well, that makes you a liar because worse words where used on me by a female customer care agent of acces bank at computer village. She didn't even stop at me because the next customer after me, an elderly man old enough to be her farther also got a dose of her character.

I can understand you position at trying to defend a fellow rude banker. Its like the Nigerian police telling lies on innocent civilians just to protect a fellow policeman that has commited a crime.
