What Is The Need Of Minister When We Have Permanent Secretaries by Saifullah01: 8:29am On Jun 27, 2015
The thought just crossed my mind, the perm secs are the brain boxes in all ministries, ministers are just politicians.

Secondly I hope those accusing the president of weakness by not interfering in the NASS, will not turn around and insult him if he gives the EFCC same latitude in the performance of their duties

My thoughts...

He can go ahead and not appoint ministers provided it does not contravene the constitution. He should also stop making Nigerians believe he will appoint a cabinet soon, when he has no intention of doing that.

My BRo you are very right.
What is the need for Vice President since we have a president?
What is need for chancellor since we have a Vice Chancellor?
What is need for LGA chairmen since we have a governor?
What is need for House of Rep since we have Senators?
What is the need for Perm Secr, since they hve PAs that do all their work for them?
Why are humans working since computers are there?

Why are we never tired of fabricating excuses even when we know things are wrong?
Or are things right and wrong based solely on who is committing it and not on state of things?

Secretary is Secretary, they are there permanently to perform the administrative function in the ministries.
Ministers are just ceremonial head of the ministries and that's why the president can change the minister within 6 month even 1 month. Besides, the minister represent the ministry in the cabinet.

Ministers are insignificant as the governors. The key factors that determine hw a country is run are the govt agencies, department and ministries which have their various organizational mode of operation. If these factors ranging from federal, regional, state and local chain of command are strengthen without political interference the economy will be run smoothly. Political appointees(come and eat ur own) are after their self interest and any change in govt will bring a change in policies in their favour (a case study of rivers,Ekiti). In western worlds people don't really care about their political appointees rather the various govt agencies empowered to perform their duties without much political interference. Think of it wot's the essence of the minister of defence when he/she doesn't even knw hw to plan a defensive war strategy, the military apparatus can do dat without any role frm him( a case study of obanikoro).

Is just for political relevance reason.
Permanent Secretaries can do that too but our constitution provides it and the most painful part is every state must have someone in the FG cabinet
So Sowie Naija
I hope the 8th Assembly do something about this

Question to OP;
Or could this be a topic too!

What about Nigeria having one Legislative?

Actually the post of perm sec is not necessary , after the directorial level there should no other level, then they can transform the post of perm-sec to minister so the office will be occupied by some one with in know or they can make a very astute person the minister ,not this blind ministers we have

Kudos to adesina (Minister of agriculture)

So why did Buhari promise to name his cabinet within a week of inauguration if according to you there's no need for ministers?

http://dailypost.ng/2015/04/15/buhari-to-announce-his-ministers-one-week-after-may-29-inauguration/

Nigeria’s incoming President, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.), yesterday disclosed that his cabinet would be announced very quickly within one week of inauguration; and that “Anyone with a whiff of corruption or any kind of taint will not be in the cabinet. Our manifesto will reflect zero tolerance for corruption”.

Slowly but surely, this is how the people unwittingly support totalitarianism without even knowing it.
By the time they wake up from their slumber to the full-blown dictatorship, it would have been too late.
