Is It Possible For A Hiv Positive Man Not To Pass It To His Wife? by BKings: 9:37am On Jul 10, 2015 |
My cousin's husband has been diagnosed with hiv. When I heard the news I put a call to her, asking her if she has it too but she said no. The man was first diagnosed +ve last november, after he became too weak and according to her, they took it as false because she was tested negative. March again this year, the man also tested positive but she negative. I then advised her to go for another test which she did few days ago and said it is negative. My question, is it possible for the man to have it and not pass it to her, or is she just lying in fear of stigmatization? She said she has stopped unprotected sex with him since last two months though, but how about other previous months they've been doing it raw. Doctors, experienced ones, please kindly say something. I'm really feeling bad 6 Likes |

Some years ago, i saw a show on TV where a young guy had a baby with a + girl and was still negative. She got it through blood transfusion as a young girl. She told him she had it, and he still went ahead to date her and even had a kid with her, and a year later was still negative. I am not a Medical Doctor but i think she might be saying the truth. 10 Likes |

BKings: Yes , it is very possible. The risk of male to female transmission is 0.07 to 0.08% per unprotected vag.in.a intercouse.although this also depends on the ,man's viral load and drug complaint if he's on drug. The risk is Much lower in kissing, and higher if there is cut from infected sharp object. But the risk is still there and there is no wisdom in taken chances, discordant couple should use condom always http://www.catie.ca/en/pif/summer-2012/putting-number-it-risk-exposure-hiv 18 Likes 3 Shares |

BKings: Its very possible. I once argued that it wasn't until a medical Doctor explained it to me. The thing is they will tell you its safe to kiss an HIV +ve person as long as there no mouth sore that is open but does it mean the virus is not in the saliva. It is very much present but the viral load is so small that the chemical in our saliva can kill it off before it reproduces and have the power to infect. Same with the Sexual intercourse, the guy or girl will be given powerful anti retroviral drugs for a period. During that period the viral load in the system/blood of the carrier will be so low that it could even be hard to determine if the person is positive or not. Another thing with the Anti-retroviral drugs is that it reduces the ability of the virus to reproduce. So if the couple should have sex within that period, the viral load will be so minute and weak that it will never be able to survive the onslaught of the receivers immune system. 36 Likes 1 Share |

Your cousin is very lucky beause their is an increased risk for male to female transmission than females to males due to the large surface area that makes up the woman's genita|ia The issue of your cousin having high immunity is a major factor on why she didn't get the infection but she has to check again in three month's and six month's time to be sure, the kids should also be tested too. And lastly~~ Maybe they are the rare groups of discordant couples known. I suggest they visit a Heart to heart centre for proper counselling and management. 17 Likes 1 Share |

yes this is one of the explanation given it is very possible..there was a study in uganda about some prostitutes who despite being exposed to the hiv virus time and again, they did not come down with the infection the reason is simple...before hiv can get into the blood stream, there is a receptor on the cell namely ccr5 and cxcr4. now these are the doors or access points of this virus to get into the cell. now some people with mutation or change in this gene that codes for this receptor, hence the virus cannot get into the body with dis mutated receptor which makes those people immune to hiv that as simple as it gets i asked my lecturer in medical school then, would it be possible to give someone a drug and cause the mutation, he smiled and said no..."how people get this mutation is not known" 14 Likes 2 Shares |

Starships4u:are you a Dr.? You guys bring prayer and God into everything. There must be a reason why she is does not have it. I have read of Pastors that are positive and prostitutes that are negative. Just make sure you protect your life by being careful. 4 Likes 1 Share |
