I would advice you tell your cousin to go for a HIV confirmatory test and not just all them normal strip tests. Its more expensive but more accurate. 1 Like |

docphresh:Exactly. The woman is the receptor and rate of infection is higher here..except of course if the man's VL is very low and undetectable due to adherence to ART. |

The risk of male to female transmission is indeed very higher than what you quoted. Maybe you quoted the reversal case i.e female to male. Check your source well or change your source. sainty2k3: 1 Like |

My dad is + and my mom is -. So yes, it is possible. He's been living with the virus for 10 years but lately tests reveal he is negative. He continues taking his meds as before. 3 Likes |

BKings:......As a trained professional chemical scientist....yes...it is possible to have HIV and still not transfer it to your partner if engaged in unprotected sex....the same situation also occurs for two AS partners and still not give birth to an SS child......but in this case,it's God assistance thats involved for the AS partners and the child....and i'll tell you HIV is the primary and weak version of AIDS and though deadly,it is circulated in the blood but the concentration is different in each part of the blood but can still be detected in any section of the blood......depending on the stage of the virus....it is probably a 60/40 possibilty......an early detected HIV virus has a lower risk of transfer of the virus while a late detected HIV has 95% risk of virus transfer. Now to be very sure....there are three method of testing for HIV but i can only remember two.....the first is the ALEREH PAPER STRIP(it can detect HIV at its middle and late stage but not always trustworthy when it comes to the early-stage of the virus)......the second is the UNIGOLD TEST(very reliable in detecting both the early, middle and late stage of the HIV virus). FOR CONFIRMATION: Tell your cousin to carry out the retroviral test(HIV) using her blood not urine or sputum(mucus obtained from spit in the mouth).....this is because....HIV is easily detectable in the blood than in the urine.....the same also applies for pregnancy and UDRL test(syphillis). HOPE THIS IS QUITE ENOUGH....I DON'T WANT TO GO FURTHER!! MODIFIED!!! 1 Like |

YerYer: Yes, the point you just made is called POST EXPOSURE PROPHYLAXIS (PEP) and the drugs are given WITHIN 72 hours of exposure. That was why l was worried when you advised she should start medications...when was she exposed to the virus and for how long will she take it, which antiviral medication will she take. Self medication is an abuse of medical treatment and we should not encourage it. |

Starships4u:oga,in medical practice, there is this saying,"never say never". Sometimes,it is a matter of receptors. Some ppl just don't have receptors for HIV,just like d way chicken pox will afflict everybody in d family and spare one person. Other factors include viral load, immune status, even diet too. |

www.niaid.nih.gov/topics/hivaids/research/vaccines/Pages/default.aspx Check the link above. l know there are a lot of research going on towards finding a vaccine for HIV but as at today there is none yet. Yes it is very common to have HIV-NEGATIVE babies from hiv-positive parents. This through what we call PREVENTION OF MOTHER-TO-CHILD TRANSMISSION OF HIV (PMTCT). Through this strategy CUBA is the first country globally to have achieved Elimination of mother to child transmission of HIV (eMTCT) and Nigeria will get there NIAID means National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease. It is a US department of National Institute of Health (NIH) |

joesmarisvisa:.....yes if it has attained the middle and late or chronic stage and also if the carrier has any suspected injury or sore in the lip or tongue............TO BE ON A SAFE SIDE.....DO NOT KISS ON THE LIP AND ALSO AVOID PECKING SUCH PERSON IF HE/SHE IS COVERED IN SWEAT. |
Re: Is It Possible For A Hiv Positive Man Not To Pass It To His Wife? by Buonsenso: 1:28pm On Jul 10, 2015 |
joesmarisvisa: Kissing is considered low risk. Technically it's possible but unlikely. But most times people don't stop at kissing. They move on to other sexual activities. Condoms prevent HIV and other stds. |

Below contributor is right, as a matter of fact, your cousin is very lucky and both of them should go to Heart-to-Hearth Center for expert counselling. The issue of discordant couples....the reaserch is still on going in that aspect......Scientists are trying to see if someone like your cousin that has a strong hormones might be used in combating the scourge. lolly2pops:d commonest of d tests for this disease is based on detection of antibodies to d virus in d blood stream. The virus might have been suppressed to an undetectable level based on that particular type of test but that doesn't mean he ain't still +ve. A polymerase chain reaction test is d best in this case and even for d woman d op is talking abt cos this test looks for d virus itself and not its antibody like is done in d usual tests in most centres. This test(PCR) is available in just few centres and are usually reference hospitals which are few per geopolitical zone. |

Hopefully someday the Medical Community will fully understand the mechanics of the transmission. For now there are still many in-conclusions and and unanswered questions. Stay safe and enjoy life. |

Buonsenso: The same way all animals are equal but some are more equal than the others. All death na death but would you rather you die quietly in your sleep at the age of 100 or be eaten alive bit by bit by a pack of wolves in a lonely island at the age of 22. At the you are dead either ways. HIV+ is way better than being a cancer or a diabetic patient or a lunatic. |

BKings: very very possible. A neighbour of mine tested hiv positive years ago but the wife negative and the man eventually died. Although another scenario was both positive and negative I saw. What I deduce is that it has to do with immune system but in all, one should avoid this deadly disease because its real. |

BKings:what a question! If d guy is truly infected, has bn having unprotected sex wt d wife, and has been ejaculating directly into her womanhood, no way; she certainly has it. One may want to argue that her immune system could be very strong to resist d infection but I can tell u dt consistent sex (wc increases d viral load/population) and incubation period (time taken fr d virus to establish itself nd initiate infection) are integral factors that clould av predisposed her to hiv infctn.. P.S: I'm nt a medical doctor yet o; m still a microbiologist..... |
Re: Is It Possible For A Hiv Positive Man Not To Pass It To His Wife? by dokyOloye: 1:48pm On Jul 10, 2015 |
Adultnextdoor:If let's say a man has HIV,has a high viral load, and they engage in rough unlubricated sex where they both sustain minor abrasions leading to blood contact, and d wife has receptors for d disease,my brother, there is nothing that will prevent d woman from contracting d disease. The issue abt sickle cell is diff, that one is a matter of probability, just like d way U might not get d number 6 even if U throw a dice up for 10 times even though d probability for getting 6 is 1/6 per dice throw. Summary is that if ALL d predisposing factors are present,it will take a miracle for an exposed person to escape d disease unlike in sickle cell where U have just 1/4 chance of getting a sickle child and this applies to EVERY Of d pregnancy not d sum of all d pregnancies. Abeg,as a trained professional U claim to be,know d type of info U give ppl cos they will believe Ur words just like a christian will believe whatever is in d bible. 1 Like |
