Dude I can't dumb down to your level, But i'll try. MTBF is used as a key metric to calculate endurance and reliability!! The Endurance of an Aircraft is Directly impacted by the fuel usage of an aircraft! MBTF on the other hand has nothing to do with fuel!!!! It measures the time between failures!! Thus if the Gripen has a better MTBF and a unlimited fuel supply it will fly much further than a SU30.
