OP, if you and your likes think this is how opposition work then you have a lot to learn. Keep on comparing a failed govt against a govt that has potential to right PDP wrongs.
Which government has potential? A government that is yet to fulfil the number one pledge it made to Nigerians by declaring their asset publicly? In 2011 one of the pledges of Jonathan was to run open government. He backed it up by Signing the Freedom of Information bill into law. The same FOI that Obj refused to sign in April 2007 and yar'adua refused to give priority. Till date no state, not even a single APC state has considered it wise to domesticate it. When will Buhari declare his asset?

The N1billion feeding was downwardly reviewed in the 2013, 2014 and 2015 budgets. In fact, it fell by more than 50%. As at today, Buhari is also a beneficiary of the 2015 budget.

PMB is a beneficiary of the 50% downward review right? But GEJ benefitted when it was at its peak. I'm sure PMB will still review it downward.

Some people want to get asset declaration knowing fully well that GEJ never declared his and even said he doesn't give a damn(I'm sure he was under the influence of goskolo then). Now PMB is just 42 days old in office which is not up to 2% of his term and they want to make Nigerians feel they've made a wrong choice. Rabble rousers!!!

The funny part of this is that even if the asset declaration is made public, same. People will scream "it is a lie"!!! "he has fronts!!!" And so on. Remember the 150 cow issue.

I like PMB, the things they say don't move him, he does what he feels is right and ignores their rants.
GEJ never promised to declare his assets so no1 can attack him on dt unlike Buhari who promised & failed, nobody wud hv attacked him if he didn't make d promise. Try to think b4 commenting.

Buhari is concerned with fooling Nigerians. Unfortunately, everyone isn't a fool.

Buhari should declare his assets publicly as he promised, before we begin to picket him to do so!
Buhari can't be taken serious as long as he continues to deliberately turn his back on declaration of his asset. He's very good at playing to emotions of Nigerians.

How did you know when the feeding allowance peaked when you have no clue on what it was during the administrations of Musa yar'adua and APC's navigator Segun Obasanjo. The government of Jonathan saw to public outcry and drastically reduced by more than 50% in subsequent budgets. He showed transparency and compassion in line with his pledge. When will Buhari stop to score cheap goals by declaring his asset?

That pay cut was never implemented, as at March 2015 before Jonathan handed over, he was operating the 2009 remuneration template. The President dies not have the power to issue such an order.

It can only be a personal decision, like the one taken by PMB & VPYO.

Austerity: 30 per cent pay slash for Jonathan, ministers, others
By Madu Onuora and Mathias Okwe (Abuja)

March 16, 2015

IN a display of leadership-by-example in these belt-tightening times brought about by the slump in crude oil price at the international market, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has ordered a 30 per cent pay cut for all political appointees in the Executive arm of government including himself and the Vice President.

But there is a new twist over the pay cut initiative by the President yesterday as a dependable source at the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMFAC) told The Guardian that the President lacks the power to implement a pay cut unilaterally without the Commission’s approval.

The source who asked not to be named, however, confirmed that the Commission was in receipt of a request from President Jonathan on the matter but said the request may not sail through because it does not for now see the need for the pay cut, pointing out that a similar development played out around 2009 and 2010 when the late President Umaru Yar’Adua made the request of pay cutin the face of falling oil prices.

With crude oil mineral resources constituting more than 80 per cent of Nigeria’s revenue stream, the country’s liquidity condition has, expectedly, been jolted since the third quarter of last year when prices at the international market headed downwards until recently when it began a gradual recovery.

Now, in addition to those unveiled earlier by the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala when she presented the 2015 spending plan on December 17 last year, which include the introduction of taxes on luxury items and first class and business class air travel taxes, Jonathan has directed a 30 per cent pay cut for all political appointees in the Executive arm as part of sacrifice to free up revenue for funding of the yet to be passed plan.

The Director -General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Dr. Bright Okogu, who revealed this at the weekend when he spoke to The Guardian exclusively in Abuja, said the directive takes immediate effect. All classes of political appointees including Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Federal Government agencies are affected by the pay cut order.

His words: “Political office holders’ salaries are being cut by between 20-30 per cent, ranging from permanent secretaries, directors’ general and so on all the way to ministers. This, however, does not amount to very much, but the purpose is to show the commitment of this administration that if they want to make adjustment, they want to do it and lead by.

But according to the RMFAC source: “The remuneration package for political, public and judicial office holders in use now remains the February 2009 to June 2009 approved package because the last time the late President Umaru Yar’Adua attempted to revised it suffered a setback because the commission which role is to among other things fix political office holders’ package didn’t see the need based on economic realities then. You know it was during the same oil price fall. So the package has not changed.

“Yes, President Goodluck Jonathan has actually made the same request. But unfortunately, the commission has still turned it down because there is no merit in the move.
I can tell you he has no right to temper with the salary of any political office holder.

“However, the President in his own capacity can say he would not receive a part of his salary or all of it, saying he is donating it for charity or related cause but he can not order his or any other person’s pay as approved by the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission,” our source insisted.

Under the sustaining pay package for political office holders, annual take home pay is N14.058 million which translates to a month pay of N1.171 million. The Vice President takes home annually the sum of N12.126 million broken down to N1.010 million every month. For senior ministers, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and chairmen of constitutional bodies, their annual package is N7.801 million with a monthly value of N650,136.65 kobo while ministers of state and members of constitutional bodies take an annual package of N7.536 million which gives them a monthly pay of N628,056.91 kobo.

For the categories of special advisers, which included others like speech writers, their yearly pay is N7.09 million and per month, N590.957.81 kobo.

Look at all the governments you are referencing to prove your point to this fellow? Obasanjos, yar'aduas and ebeles! All PDP led governments that refused to pass the same FOI bill till ebele did! Who was to blame for the delay? And where was this your verve for questioning "asset declaration" when your lord and saviour ebele told you, I and all other nigerians that he did not give a damn about asset declaration? Of course he wouldn't! The Save Nigeria Group with their #OccupyNigeria campaign sent very wicked chills down the spine of that Otuoke individual.

Bros. Even if he wasn't threatened, let's be realistic here, GEJ was sworn in as president on May 29 2011 and by Jan 2012, he slashed his salary, on the other hand, PMB was sworn in as president on May 29 2015 and on July 10, 2015 he slashed his salary.

So you tell me, who can be said to be selfless? And who truly has the country's interest at heart?

I would have held Jonathan accountable IF he had made such promise in 2011. In fact, his promise was FOI and open system which he fulfilled while General Buhari strangled the press wirh Decress 2 and 4 in 1984 and also attempted to implement civilian decree 2 and 4 on AIT immediately he was declared elected. Goodluck Jonathan has Never for once promised implementation of public asset declaration, in fact he maintained that that will be playing to the gallery..Though he declared his in 2007.
Buhari on the other hand PLEDGED to declare his assets and liabilities as part of his campaign promises. Yet it is 42days and we are yet to see anything. You buharists should be ashamed sometime.

Apart from the fact that Jonathan never received any reduced salary as he 'immediately ordered', can anyone tell us the new salary PMB will be earning considering 50% is to be cut out of the 'already reduced' salary?

Official salary N14.058 million - 30% = N9.84 million

N9.84 million - further 50% reduction = N4.92million.

That's about just N400k per month salary for the President of Nigeria. What a laughable assertion.

So you are trying to defend your parties as well as its various leaders "love for impunity" since 1999, on a 31 year old decree made by an autocratic military regime headed by the present president, whose sole purpose as a miltary regime was to form and implement favourable decrees ( which was the norm during such regimes) in order to perpetuate itself in power? And presently even after submitting his asset declaration forms and after a public statement by the relevant agencies that he had done so, you are still waiting for Pmb to print his list of assets out on a foolscap sheet and come and wave it on NTA or maybe for him to record a radio jingle about his assets to be played on "rhythm fm" every hour before you will be happy and satisfied? I rest my case!

It's a long read, or you could refer to the highlighted areas in my earlier post. Anyone that believes the irredeemably corrupt and greedy Jonathan would recieve a reduced salary needs to be more honest with themselves.

Don't also forget the order was supposedly to affect ALL political office holders, did that happen in Nigeria?

I see someone trying to add a new lie to Buhari stuff. For the record, Buhari did not request for 50% of what GEJ earned but 50% of his own pay. GEJ on the other hand reduced his pay by 25% first in 2012, and further reduced the 75% he was earning by 30%. GEJ is indeed a pacesetter.
