BBC has nothing to do with rating countries poverty rates, the world bank is. They use certain criteria, particularly the number of poverty alleviation programmes that countries have in order to make sure that nobody lives below $1 per day. That's why SA has been giving people free money even during apartheid to make sure that their lives are always above the poverty line.
Look forget it, when world bank is looking at poverty rate in nigeria, they focus on northern nigeria,, but food is cheapest there, their cost of living is also cheap, 'cos they cultivate most crops and supply to other states..
The fact that they are not CIVILIZED does not make them poor...,,
you don't know what $1 can buy in naira...

So is NE Nigeria not Nigeria? The world bank looks at the number of social security programmes the government has put in place to fight poverty.

Nigeria's billionaires were reduced to ashes the moment they voluntarily devalued naira to deal with the pressure from international market. That move saw Dangote losing over $10 billion and other billionaires in Nigeria reduced to the levels of just ordinary millionaires. Do you think we don't know about that? Bwahahaha… you must be kidding us.

NOW AS AT 13/07/2015 Nigeria has only five billionaires compared to eight that both SA and Egypt has. GOT IT!!!

ALL THE WAY FROM FORBES 2015.

In the same way you are accused of collecting your AIDS stats from only Southern Nigeria and use them to reflect the whole Nigeria.

The majority of over 90 million Muslims in Northern Nigeria are poor and uneducated and still Southerners boast large number of people who are poor. Your government gives nothing, that's why there is BH today.

You can't lead a happy life knowing that Nigerians have more success stories than south Africa. Your happiness depends on Nigeria's woes. You're going to be sad and truly frustrated for a long long time.

Tell us, how many billionaires does south Africa have?

So NE nigeria according to your assertions should not be taken into account when people want to do research and get an accurate overall view of nigeria. What a silly excuse my dear.

So are the genes of northerners different from other parts of nigeria to the extend that they get different vaccines. Is this really the thinking that's going on inside the heads of so called educated nigerians. I think you need to do some serious soul searching,.

My dear I see know why Boko Haram has such an impact in the lives of young northerners to the point where 13 year old girls become suicide bombers. I thought that a nation like nigeria has moved beyond tribal issues, but I'm not shocked by this as I've been proven right by @lezz who continuously focus on racial profiling people whenever he tries to prove a point.

In conclusion I say the north should separate from nigeria and form there own islamic state judging by your statements above.

northerners aren't 90 million. Are you suffering pap-,induced dementia?

Only 33% of Nigerians are poor. All south African firms are flying into Nigeria and crash landing because of the speed of anxiety in setting up shops. The north east is still so attractive for even Mr. Wiesel's Shop rite.

Your government feeding 26 million south Africans is an indictment to your laziness and lack of economic engagement. That's the reason South African turn to xenophobia and kill and loot kwerekwere (foreigners) blind. They can't take responsibility for their lives and tell themselves the truth.

A poor person is someone who cannot provide for himself or herself by any means.

- They do not have a full time job
- They do not have any means of income
-The government does not take their wellbeing to consideration
-They cannot afford to build a decent home.
-The government cannot feed their children at school
-The government does not even give even little grant specially tailored for the welfare of their children.
-They cannot afford health care and the government does nothing to help them. etc

If northerners don't want to attend educational programs why don't your FG put incentives in place to encourage systematic social change. The fact that you try and persuade us here to think that Sharia law takes precedence over Federal and state legislated laws is very disconcerting.

Education is the num1 means out of poverty so your argument is invalid.

The fact that there's a huge gap between North/South speaks volumes about where the priorities of your FG are and its a further indictment on your country as a hole. The fact that whenever we discuss development its never northern states on your agenda is also not good for a nation who claim to be the best in africa yet do selective development in the mitts of a ongoing insurgency.

Geopolitics in nigeria is no different from any other state in the world who's currently facing terrorist insurgency, because of lack of transparent and inclusive development.

Nigeria is a joke.
