The children and pregnant women in this forest go to bed at night hungry, sleep on the bare floor (because they cannot afford the luxury of bed), drink contaminated water and are under the constant attacks of mosquitoes and wild animals, including snakes.

We are using this medium to call on good spirited individuals to come to the help of our brothers and sisters who are suffering in this forest. You can help with the following items: clothes, food items, disinfectants, detergents, noodles, soaps and especially Mattresses (foams).

All the talk about creating employment being the thing that will save people from poverty is nonesense. There has to be direct cash payments to the vulnerable in the society.

A government must protect its people by doing 40% tax and paying the same to its citizens in free health, free education and social security support

During my time there, I sought to call government attention and run all sorts of campaign to expose their plight, but I was warned by a close friend to be careful of the people getting these allocations. He said they won't tolerate such exposure of their misdemeanours and that I had better thought out my safety first. I had to rethink and reschedule my act for next year. It is safe, like they're not primarily violence-oriented, at least, without provocation.
Being cut-off from the rest of Delta, and Nigeria, you may add, they are warm and receptive to people from civilization who can manage to identify with them, despite the inconveniences.
I can't mention the exact community I'm in, but all of them along the Niger suffer the same fate.
Their only gain from the government are the solar powered lights. No electric pole, not to speak of electricity despite having a gas turbine plant around for many years
