It's saddening to see nigerians politicise an issue this cogent. Was due processed muddled? Definitely. But we forget the lives of innocent civilians, Brave soldiers left for death as a result of gross incompetence, worse still alleged embezzlement by the administration of the individual in question. Yet we make this a matter of civil rights. The world's leading governments didn't get there by trivialising such issues. Desperate issues call for desperate measures!

And in case you are still wondering where the $40,000 came from or why they are searching his house, pay attention to the bolded part of the story below: undecided undecided

South African Govt:

The South African Government has returned $9.3m seized from the Nigerian government, over the failed yet controversial arms deal, Per Second News can confirm.

The South African Revenue Service (SARS) seized the funds at Lanseria airport, northwest of Johannesburg, on Sept. 5, 2014. The funds held at the SA central bank was finally released to the Nigerian government.

Per Second News gathered from a top security source Tuesday that the money may have finally been paid into one of the numerous government's accounts operated by the former National Security Adviser (NSA) retired Colonel Sambo Dasuki.

Our correspondent gathered that the money was quietly returned to the former NSA before he handed over the mantle of leadership as the NSA, retired Major General Babagana Monguno, on Tuesday afternoon.

The seizure of the $9.3 million drew heavy controversies that had exacerbated tensions between the two countries with counter accusations from both Nigeria and the South African governments.

Relations between Nigeria and South Africa have not been at their best, particularly between the Zuma and Jonathan administrations.

According to a South African Presidency source “By returning this money you get friendship, loyalty and an opportunity where President Buhari is willing to work with us to lead the continent and speak with one voice.”

“Instead of Nigeria second-guessing us all the time, we will compare notes and stop fighting for things like the United Nations Security Council seat that’s not even permanent,” the source said.

“Nigeria is a strategic country that South Africa cannot ignore. It’s a big market. It’s possible South African companies make more money in Nigeria than in South Africa.”

It is believed that South Africa also returned another $5.7 million seized from Nigeria, money which was purportedly to buy arms including 50 M-75 cannons and 200,000 rounds of ammunition. Per Second News learnt that former vice president Atiku Abubakar, using his closeness to South Africa’s President Jacob Zuma settled the rift.

Read it here: http://www.persecondnews.com/index.php/psn-news/item/4048-south-africa-returns-nigeria-s-seized-9-3-million

And you say they should not search his house, abi?
Issokay O!
New NSA (Munguno) is not smiling at all
Return our money Oga NSA or more is still to come. grin grin

Re: My 24-hour SSS Ordeal, By Sambo Dasuki by Nobody: 7:59am On Jul 18, 2015
Only a dumb person will believe that the protection team left rifles in the house of their principal. It's never done in Security. Besides, Mr. Dasuki should not complain about humiliation and all that; his actions or inactions as NSA may have contributed to the death of several person under Boko Haram. We wish Boko Haram victims had only suffered humiliation.

Bros honestly some people will cry a lot this period because things are changing. I felt glad to know that a very senior official like Dasuki was being question over $40,000... Ordinarily people don't call that money in a society where a mere local government councilor with N200,000 as salary is expect to have such without question
He should also be ready to tell the EFCC more on the $40,000. I thank goodness that both Buhari and Dasuki are Fulani else some fools would have started calling the President a tribalist.

Have you travelled outside the shores of this country? There's no difference between what the SSS did and what is done abroad, any little thing you see over 20 police cars flashing lights and sirens. I just pity Nigerians who are tricked by all these cry of "persecution"

DSS had a warrant for search, they took him away and questioned him, everything was done according to the law, why are people being tricked by these criminals, the same people who destroyed this country?

If you want to solve Nigeria's problems you have to monitor people, follow them, spy them, establish connections between various crimes happening and act when you're confident you have a clear lead, like if you suspect the evidence will be destroyed or transferred to another location, this is what real intelligence and security means

The FG and security operatives in sane climes wouldn't act the way our SSS acted towards Dasuki. You need to travel out to see things yourself. I still stand on the grounds that its purely a case of witch-hunting Dasuki. How can the FG retire him from service and barely a few days after, send DSS after him? And we all know that PMB is not a forgiving man. I appreciate his quest to rid the country of corruption but he needs to put aside his personal vendetta if he hopes to live long.

Due process was not muddled. The DSS executed duly signed search warrant. They didn't plan to arrest the former NSA and they didn't. Those who think that they are above the law are just making noise.

Are they supoose to give him 6 months before they carry out and search on him ? If his hands and heart are pure he won't be this quick to conclude that he's being witch hunted

Are you a public servant? If yes you should make sure you can account for your dollars in case money get missing or misappropriated under your watch.

10 million naira = N750,000 x 13,333.3.

N750,000 is an average cost of sinking a borehole in Nigeria.

If conducting a legally backed investigation is what you call dictatorship I believe we should be celebrating this kind of dictatorship. PDP in their own wisdom warned Nigerians about what Buhari has done and not done in the past but majority of Nigerians still chose him. The majority knew what they wanted and its what they are gradually getting. They are celebrating this 'dictatorship'.

You are just getting emotional for nothing!
Ask anyone who has leaved abroad before:
If you are caught with as much as 15,000GBP or $20,000 "CASH", you will be arrested first and the money seized, UNTIL you can explain it source and why you did not keep it in the bank. EVen if they dont have excuse, they will tag it "proceeds of crime" and there is a law which not only allow them to seize the money but also seize the house in which it was found.

I am telling you these from first hand experience as l know folks who have forfeited such money to Govt.
Have you read that article up there were Nigeria's money was "hurriedly paid" into one of Dansuki's account?
Do you know whether he has refunded that money to Nigeria's Govt and do you question why the money should go to his account in the first place?

As a matter of fact, retiring him was a prelude to beaming the searchlight on him as you cannot ask him to investigate himself and we know that people "dont resign" in Nigeria!

Just relax, when the "full jist" is out, even an unrepentant apologist like you will give PMB a standing ovation.

I dont mind "witch-hunting of criminals" Who gives a damn?.
IF OBJ used Ribadu to witch-hunt ACN Criminals, ......... that is minus 50%
If GEJ had witch-hunted all OBJ's criminals .... that is less 50%, instead of telling us that "Stealing is not corruption"
Let PMB also witch-hunt GEJ/PDP Criminals ............ that is minus 50%

Bit-by-bit, all the criminals will witch-hunt themselves out so that the average Nigerian can breath and enjoy life.
Only the guilty are afraid!

Buhari has more daunting challenges than chasing opponents. It is a common knowledge that most Hausa/Fulani men keep money in cash. $40,000 (less than 10million Naira) is not up to what some traders or supermarket makes in a day. A service station can make this amount in a couple of hours. For God's sake we are talking of $0.04million. This can not fund a good shopping trip. Everybody is not a pauper. The action of DSS is pure witch-hunt. Smell the coffee. Sambo's sin is that he was very prominent in the overthrow of Buhari's regime in 1985 and he was hard on boko boys as NSA.

If PMB wants to fight corruption he should go for the big fishes from whom we can recover substantial amount of money. Besides PMB should get busy with delivering dividends of democracy and fulfilling his campaign promises and leave petty issues of trying to get even with perceived opponents.

Hmmmm. Having gone through the comments here I find it amusing that some respectable monikers still post......

That been said, I am amongst the few that wish our DSS to perform discrete evidence collation before going on their public show. I keep saying they are jokers. If they are working on a case of national security I think they've probably lost any tangible lead if the former NSA was the secret ingredient to solving it but alas they like appearing in the news with their fancy rifles as Agent Dogonyaro or Okonkwo. That house could've been searched neatly in a clandestine way.

In all, I don't see it as a witch hunting cuz they've announced themselves already for others to take caution.
Take it this way, there's a robbery going on. Instead of the police moving in discretely till they get to the destination and take position for an ambush, they blare their sirens from 2km away. The thieves will just run away.

Common sense.

You be Mumu. Even if you never travel out of Naija before, don't you watch movies? All over the world police use siren when they are on emergency mission. This is to allow smooth access to the crime scene. So let the criminal run away. It is better lol

I've seen things for myself, that's why I asked you that question. If I hadn't seen, I'd be thinking the same way you are too. The point I don't really understand is, why are Nigerians too bothered to protect someone who might be a security risk to this country while we treat common thieves with worse punishments? I don't get it. If you want to lecture me about human rights, use the common man who was burned with tyres to death or the woman who was stripped naked for stealing

Nonsense! Why the wailing? If you're arrested upon suspicion of any illegality the doors of the courts are open to you. Mind you, legally speaking, the illegality of a search does not vitiate any findings made by the police in your residence. If you think it is a case of malice and your hands are clean then get you a lawyer and stop crying to our hears. Some months ago you were a politician...quit wailing! Several ordinary nigerians go through this and even worse for suspicions or actual theft...so don't think that because you can afford a 'press conference' you deserve the sympathy of 'we, the people'. At any rate, if you are sympathetic for this man...it shows...you don't know nothing! Open the files! And open the courts! And if need be, open the prison gates! THE END!!!
