Guardiola met a squad molded by Rijkaard. Most of the 09 squad promoted to the it's team was done by other managers including van Gaal.The only exception was Pedro.

Van Gaal realized that during his spells at Barca and Bayern. He did promote the odd player every season but not on the scale of the Ajax 95. The Bosman ruling effectively killed that template for youth development.

depay as a striker is a gamble. He adds more dynamism to our forward play but expecting him to be deployed as a striker is stretching it especially in his first season in a new league.
