hahn: You must commend Nigerians in that retail sector.Infact, most provision shops in Lagos are stepping up and new ones like globus, bazar, pennymart etc are opening. However, for Walmart? That's a big brand!!! Their presence in our economy is a big endorsement in international circles. Very soon, other global brands will start looking at Lagos. Good one.Walmart is a big fish! 61 Likes 2 Shares |

Sorry we are turning back the hands of the clock . Right back to the western region . apart from those who wants to continue living in that vicious cycle with the accompanying poverty economy ,Second hand and inferior goods. While growing up , I got my shoes from Bata Mom shopped at leventis Treated us to delicious snacks at kingsway Bought books from Macmillans , Evan , abiola bookshop Bought drugs from May and baker And all sorts of departmental stores About the only thing you bought from the markets were fresh food like catfish. Fresh milk ,straight from England was even available in some stores And we were like every other middle class family around . 1 Walmart will create jobs for local youth 2 pay more taxes by shrinking the informal economy 3 source products directly from manufacturer and cutting out the numerous middlemen . 4 cheaper . 5Raise the profile of the southwest even more 6 farmers will benefit from direct relationships 7 Hopefully stop all those rural / urban migration of unskilled people and farmers . 8 Nigerian manufacturers with good products will have a platform to them on the shelves in other countries. If Buhari gets it right and the economy kicks into gear , then 4x 4 are sitting ducks . 38 Likes 3 Shares |

The Chinese produces the goods and wholesale them here these days because our immigration department gives every chinese, lebanese and indian a free pass. . Then walmart retails . . All are foreigners. Meanwhile, our politicians claiming to be working hard to create jobs for the people sit aside and clap. The retail sector is most probably the biggest employer of labour in Nigeria yet there they are, applauding. When we decimate the economic circumstances of hard working Nigerian traders through some of these bizare policies, maybe because we feel disconnected from 'those' that we, in our petty thinking, presume to be the biggest beneficiaries of the retail trade in Nigeria, we will only see more sophisticated criminal acts in this country. Why? Nobody will sit at home and die. If the government can't protect her citizens legitiimate sources of income, obviously, the citizen would be left with no other option than to 'survive at all costs'. 11 Likes 2 Shares |

Walmart is a cut-throat capitalism and it's harmful to any city that it goes into.people may get low prices of goods, but when you calculate the total cost of having walmart in your city or state you'd find that it's harmful.Lagos state shouldn't allow this predatory juggernaut into Lagos state.it will kill local businesses. 12 Likes 1 Share |

oduastates: 4 × 4 are nothing but pratical realities of developing economies. China, .india etc have them. Moreover they fit without scrupples, into the behavorial pattern of an average African. That's why they thrived even when you were flexing at kingsway and co. So your petty jealousy can't wish them away just as buharis vindictive policies will surely bite but won't make much dent. Most middle class downwards will still patronise them for obvious reasons and what's more? Deu to Jonathans liberalising policies, most Nigerians that accessed the exploding middle class under Jonathan were/are from the informal sector. Most of those, traders! Getting rid of them as you seem determined to do should be a generational quest! Unfortunately for you, your ideologically challenged ApC/buhari lack both the intellectual gravitas and organisational finesse to ruthlessly prosecute such lunatic policies that border on 'sophisticated' idiocy. . . Put bluntly; you will contineu to sulk while igbo traders grow, till the day you kick the bucket. Pēlèé 10 Likes 2 Shares |
