Dear V.O,
I've just been admitted into UALR and scheduled an expedited interview at the Lagos consulate which was duly granted for the 12th of August. My problem is I have to attend mandatory orientation program on the 11th and 12th of August which I explained when I applied for the expedited date. Please what can I do as the orientation is important for class registration? I have been advised to look into changing my interview location to Abuja as the dates are usually more accommodating but there's no way to really know what dates are available there without registering using the same parameters as those I used to setup my Lagos interview. I neither want to cancel my present appointment without being sure of Abuja's available dates nor do I want to end up having two appointments. Please what would you advise me to do? Is there any way to check available dates in Abuja and reschedule to that location if favourable without breaching any rule? Thanks for the anticipated help!

A family travelling together got different appointment dates, including a 4 month old baby.
Can the family attend the interview together or separately?

Dear VO,

I wasn't allowed in with my 17 year old brother for his student visa interview. The security officials said it's because he is going to University, not High School. Please is this correct?

Why would your 17 year old brother, who is going halfway across the world to go to university, need you to attend his interview? Even if you had been allowed inside you would definitely not be allowed to be present during his interview. If he is the one going to be the student, then he needs to answer the questions at the interview. I am not sure what the problem is here.

Hello VO,

I scheduled an interview appointment for a b1/b2 visa with my family this coming Sept.
The appointment was successfully confirmed. Then I noticed that the last THREE Digit of my passport number was wrongly entered...

Instead of 184, I wrongly entered 148. Can this error affect our interview date? Although I sent an email to help me correct the error and they said they will attend to me within 1 or 2 business days...

Every application is given a fresh review by a new Consular officer when you re-apply, but the details of your specific case aren't likely to change in a short period of time. We don't recommend that you re-apply within 90 days for this reason.

Contrary to what you may have heard or read, there is no single solution to getting a U.S. visa. The best option is to be honest during your interview; it sounds like the circumstances of your case are already changing since your previous applications because you are now married.

Sir! I just found time to go through all your post so far...and I must confess, its helping and someday when I shall get my visa, I will say "IT HELPED!"...I must confess, I love your way of explaining and answering each question, also how u attend to insulting questions in overwhelming.

God bless the work of your hand sir! More grease to your elbow!

Dear VO:

I commend you highly for this helpful thread. Please keep up the good work. Now to my issue. I am a student studying in the USA and my mum plans to visit me in Jan. 2016. She already has a valid US visa which was issued to her in April 2015. The reason she applied for that visa was her intention to attend my graduation which unfortunately, she could not attend because of work. However, on her DS 160, she stated her destination was Tennessee; my former state of residence but now there is a change of plan as i no longer live in TN but now reside in Virginia where i'm pursuing a higher degree. My question now is, will she encounter any problem at the POE (she plans to come in through washington dulles) if she explains to the CBP officer that she is going to Virginia instead of TN as already mentioned on her DS 160? I wanted to email the US embassy about this sudden change but i do not know if this is appropriate. Keep in mind this is her first travel to the US. I look forward to reading from you. Many thanks.

Hello dukejason,

You do not need to contact the Embassy. If your mother encounters any secondary questioning at the airport, we encourage her to be honest. After all, visas are valid for two years and a lot can change in that time!

Hi VO,
My cousin was trying to fill out a DS160 application for her daughter. She got an error message "An unexpected error has occurred while processing your previous request. The error has been reported to the site administrator; no further action is required". Since then, she has not been able to proceed with the application.

Please advise what she can do, she has almost concluded with the application and was about to submit before having this error.

Hello nefertitiram,

Tell your cousin to reach out to our call center: (09) 469-1748.

Dear VO,
my brother just filed for our parents and they got dr green card already. will this act not jeopardise my b1b2 if I wr to tick the option in ds160 which says r ur parents in US? cos of this tie tie palaver.

Hello johnwick1,

On the contrary! Just be honest on your application and with your interviewer. If you were to lie about your parents' status, that would very negatively affect your application.

Dear VO,
My sister and her 1 year old applied for non immigrant visa to us as her hubby is there and he invited them for his bday wc is in august. They attended the interview on 22rd of ds month butwas denied visa. My sister said she noticed the consular was chkn her daughters passport critically. He even went to call another person to check using Dr scanner. But was eventually denied. I tried chkn ds evening online with their application number and discovered that my sisters own shows issued and that she shd contatct usa consular if she doesnt get it in 10days but her daughter's own shows refused. Another confusing tin is dat my sisters own shows case creation date as 14th and status updated 15th meanwhile dey attended d interview on 22rd d date on her daughters own is correct. She is really confused.wat cld b d problem

Dear pricelessnikky,

I have no idea. Tell your sister to email either ConsularAbuja@state.gov or LagosNIV@state.gov to inquire about her specific case if she believes her application was approved (perhaps even in error).

Dear V.O,
Thanks for the help and quick reply,i think you misunderstood my previous post though. What i meant is my expedited date is 12th (amended from 18th) but it still falls on the same date as my schools orientation. I don't think i can request for this date to be further expedited and so i was advised to look into changing my interview location to Abuja but i don't know if this is possible and if I'd even be able to get an earlier appointment in Abuja if it was. My question ma is what do you think my best course of action is now as far as getting an earlier date is concerned? Once again thanks for giving us all your audience, God bless you.
