I sincerely don't understand the urge some south africans have to make it look like they aree "20 years ahead". With the right team, 2 years would be more than enough to start producing original indigenous technology. Now why a guy would say 20 years is beyond me. A PhD takes between 3 and 4 years after the masters degree. I don't see why making technological advancement would take longer than that. And here we are not even talking about technological advancement, all we are talking about are already existing weapons. The reason I gave for the infaisability is the lack of meritocracy in Nigeria and that would mean that qualified people might not get the job because of a quota systeme. Expect to see some functionning illitrates beat some hard working researchers to get the job. That is the sad reality of Nigeria.
There are no institutions or organizations offering learning opportunities for complex weapon systems in most if not all Sub-Sahara African countries.

It is quite difficult to argue with one who engages a conversation by telling you that you are not making sense, it is even more difficult when the person doesn't actually poke at any holes in your write-up. Now I find it quite fraudulent to ascribe reasons to things like "china copying what it can". For your information, everybody is copying what it can. Even your much gloryfied usa spends most of its time copying france, russia, england and even china. I repeat my claim: with the right team and the right investment, I give it 2 years to reach the desired target and move on from there.

Hahahahahahaha... I just remembered you're igbi.

I wouldn't argue with this one.

Whatever makes you happy bro

Try taking sentiments aside. You'll understand what I'm talking about.

And yeah.. Aside from you, even the Chinese know they copy everything.

Abeg let's not derail this thread with baseless arguments.

"Snowden says NSA engages in industrial espionage"
http://www.reuters.com/article/2014/01/26/us-security-snowden-germany-idUSBREA0P0DE20140126

Don't expect american patriots to focus the spotlight on their faults, expect them to focus it at china's. For the avoidance of any doubt, industrial espionage is done by every country on earth which has the capacity to do so. And it is done with assiduity.

I disagree. Because of my knowledge of the world of research I believe that such would not take too long. As for the number of countries which produces missiles, I do not have that number, neither do you. It is my belief that this kind of enterprises would be kept secret. Besides don't expect countries like libya which are constantly under turmoil to have the time and investment for such projects which require real planning. The world is full of saboteurs (many of whom work for western countries to stop 3rd world countries from archieving too much developpmement), eg: the spies in iran who frequently kill iranian scientists. This is not a matter of textbooks or journals, this is a matter of scientific research. Scientific research is not about reading textbooks, it is about solving problems and building theories. If you place the right guys like what the germans and allies did in ww2 then you will get result. Remember Alan Turing. The germans didn't expect him or anybody to be able to crack their codes in that little span of time. But that is the magic of scientific research: the breakthroughs.

Its a real fact that with the Round peg in the round hole in the Technological industry, with good policy from the Government and support. Then putting aside praise singing from what does not exist, with little time Nigeria will be something. Even the country people are comparing Nigeria with, are there no Nigeria pulling up their weight of knowledge over there, i want people to look at it this way, Let politicians face their politics and those into the industry face their industry, then let their be middle ground with interference, let see whether this country will not move forward. You will be surprised how somebody will tell me that somebody with little on know knowledge about how to produce military hardwares and platforms to be the boards manager/whatever of Military defence industry or DICON

I know

I just never found out why the SANDF didnt go for it

As light as an R6 and shorter than the R6

But with the barrel length of the R4

so its shorter than the shortest carbine we have, with none of the traditional draw-backs of a carbine (barrel length affecting range and accuracy)

Since the demographics of the Army/Aiforce/Navy have changed, and since we have many more women serving (esp in combat roles) you would think that the SANDF would have jumped on it!

Or at the very least adopted it for mechanized/airborne/MRS who have to deploy weapons from confined spaces

Yes, I just hope that people in high positions back home have this view. Unrelated to this discussion, let me post this video of the Ex-COAS:

The religious undertones of the COAS are quite frankly not acceptable:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbee7FdP6So

Does this mean that those who didn't fast are somehow not "prepared".
I don't see anything wrong with COASs (and ordinary soldiers whose job is not to preach) going to Indigenous shrines, or mosqs or churches, but for them to become preachers is not acceptable.

They wanted to replace the R4 with it under African warrior, it didn't offer a lot.

There has been talk of not deploying them for combat. In fact women aren't really deployed in that role.

The R4 doesn't fire a standard NATO round.

as we talk about knowhow we should not forget capacity ,have most of you taken a close look at south africa infrastructure compared with the rest of us in the sub sahara.south africa just recently completed building a coal plant of about 6,000 MW and still its not enough for its demand .most of us even can't even generate that at the moment

This is the major general Buratai I know and respect:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d1bNh6GdOHI
Though I am not sure of the reason why he was given the position of COAS shortly after being made GOC of the MNJTF.
It is not very logical. I would have waited for him to prove himself as GOC of the MNJTF before promoting him further.
Besides was there a real interview ? A real competition with several candidates ? Or was it just because he is a good candidate from borno who also happens to be a muslim ? This is one of the problems facing Nigeria.

Look, northerners are not inferior to anybody. As far as you are a human being, you are of the same value as any other human being. What I fault however is a system which disregards merit. And as you can see, I said that major general buratai was a good candidate, although my question would be: was he the best ? And quite francly, only a competition could have determinned that. It doesn't suffice to publish the CV of the guy who got the job, I want to compare it to the CVs of the guys who didn't get the job.
Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by Nobody: 5:49pm On Aug 10, 2015
ibnsultaan or son of sultaan,

Many people are good candidates, but only one of them is the best candidate, that is why the best is to have them compete. Like this you have the best people at the position they deserve. And from there it tricles down, and before no time you have a much better army.

The SANDF decided to rather upgrade the existing R4 which we've seen quite a lot of the past few years.

It worked out much cheaper to just upgrade the existing rifles than to replace all of them with the CR-21. And personally it makes more sense( well to me anyway), although the CR21 offers a few advantages over the current R4, I don't think it outweighs the price we would have had to pay to eqquip the entire SANDF.

Another drawback of the CR21 is that it doesn't come with iron sights as far as I know, thus we would've had to pay more just to fit optics on all the issued rifles, also I know quite a few target shooters that shoot better with iron sights than with scopes.
