Hello house, I'm an English Language final year student and I am presently applying for my MA in English in the US. My major challenge at the moment is how to go about writing a good WRITING SAMPLE . I am completely new to the terrain and I need help on how to write a good one. I will be most grateful if the veterans in this house can give helpful advice on how to achieve this. thanks. flytomide@yahoo.com |

Centrix matthew1234: As you said, it depends on his school proximity, east of Queen near long island is cheaper than center and west Queen. The only problem is that mta transportation might not reach him but he can get LIRR for more fare. Staten Island is the cheaper than Queens but can only be reached by ferry if he has no car or dont like to pay toll. |

slimmy05: lols... What do you expect when they hear the word "credit"?? Free emoney abi? They need it most when they're in second half of their studies. And after graduating because transiting from studying to working might take longer than expected and so, cc might be the only life saver. The only thing to worry about is large debt and overwhelming interest rate. 2 Likes |

fregkay:Sorry for responding late. You guys are gradually turning me into Man of God. I am an advocate of never give up and a loser today can be a winner tomorrow. Your friend could still get his visa even if he's been denied many times and hasn't been banned. The big question is; what can he do for God if he gets his visa approved this time? |

Good morning folks, my transcript as promised VO: Good morning Me: Good morning VO: Pls pass your documents and passport, (the guy is full bearded with an Indian accent, good looking too but hin don marry sha ) Me: I passed the docs VO: Yes... So tell me why you chose the university of Texas for your public health degree Me: It's one of the cheapest among other schools bla bla ...., and being located in the Texas medical center which is the largest medical complex in the world I'll have various opportunities for research.... VO: So what prior experience (or I think he said knowledge) do you have in public health Me: My first degree was medicine and surgery, so I did some basic courses in public health in my final year (the guy they knod..) and I conducted a research during my final year about the knowledge of the bla bla bla... where I saw that their knowledge about the disease was very low and I gave recommendations to the dept. (While I was waiting on the queue for my interview I suddenly had an impression to remind myself of my final year project topic, which I did) VO: I heard u say Surgery Me: Yes I read medicine and surgery VO: Tell me more abt it Me: I'm a medical doctor, so I treat patients...bla bla bla(I sha tell am wetin medical doctor dey do) VO: Ok your visa have been approved, ...( didn't hear the rest of what he said) Me: wow....thank you No other documents asked, no SOA, no question abt my sponsor etc. (While I was answering his first question, unconsciously I wasn't looking at him. but I quickly rem what people said on this thread abt being confident and looking at the VO's face while talking. I turned to him sharp sharp, eyeball to eyeball . I think doing so helps your confidence level well.) I give glory to God for favour and His faithfulness... He is awesome. Thanks to everyone that has responded to questions and given quality info on this thread. God bless you all. And pls.... avoid those touts at the consular car park trying to get you to staple your passport photograph on your ds-160. You don't need to staple anything not even the docs together..!! 8 Likes |

bathchedars: Morning. First, I think you haven't done enough research on the course you intend studying. In most U.S. universities, English as a department has many specialisations under it. A typical English department could have the following areas of specialisation: 1.English (what we call Literature here) 2.Composition and Rhetorics 3.TESOL 4.Literature of Migration 5.Business English 6.Language and Communication 7.Creative Writing, etc. What you should do now is to find out what area you want and what your intended schools call it, and write. I'm telling you this so that you won't ignorantly turn in a sample ideally meant for TESOL for Composition and Rhetorics. After knowing what you want, to answer your question, then (1) go to the website of your prospective department, look out for what one or two Profs are interested in, then tilt your writing along that line. (2) Another way to do it is by using any of your past publications, if you have any. (3) Or, you can ask one of your lecturers here in Nigeria to give you an academic topic to write on. Such topic must be related to what you want to specialize in. (4) You could also consult your final year question papers and pick GOOD and challenging questions. Don't just run to the Internet, you must be weary of plagiarism. Ire o. |

warriboy21:It's definitely gonna be a good experience and so, don't worry about that. Airport is a good place to chill out provided that you meet someone who is a student and is heading towards the same direction and you guys can really chat up. The 13 hours will become like 3 hours at the end of the day. |

Hello guys, I posted something regarding my friend's been unable to have his interview some days ago, he said he sent an email to the consular office and they confirmed he is good now to make an appointment. He said he tried making the appointment now but the earliest date he saw is in September at Lagos. He is seeking advise on what to do, and what can he do to get a date before his resumption date |
