simsonnaira: I thought Moores law has to do with processor speed increasing every 2 years. Does that mean that in about 2 years time, we will use 4gb Data to do the same thing 2gb can do today? 1 Like |

SWIFT HAS ALSO STARTED. I HAVE SPENT 4X THE AMOUNT I USUALLY DO PER MONTH. ITS VERY UNFORTUNATE. THEY SHOULD INCREASE THEIR TARIFFS INSTEAD OF THIS UNPROFESSIONAL DECEIT |

If 5% of Nairaland users would call NCC (for free) the Telecom companies will reduce data cost but we all appear to afford it or act like Nigerians n not complain ("suffer in silence "). 1 Like 1 Share |
Re: Nigerian Networks Introduce Shaving To Balance Cheaper Data Rates by XKZ(m): 11:28am On Aug 16, 2015 |
moski5: Sounds like an interesting idea. Would even be easier to just email them. But we need to have a valid complaint. Minus the fact "data no dey do person again" do we have any proof of this data shaving. Or is there any way we can gather evidence? Or do we just say we are concerned and would like them to investigate? 1 Like 1 Share |
The availability of multiple applications like BBM, Skype, WhatsApp is eating up the revenues of major Nigerian Telecommunication companies. With the budding apps, calling and short message services have taken the back seat and as a result, the telecommunication companies are facing a massive loss of revenue. A recent report has revealed that majority of the telcos have fallen some 30% decline in their expected revenue generation. Apart from this revenue drop statistics, the report also suggested that the companies could see an additional decrease of 20% in the total revenue. In order to reclaim the loss, some of the telcos have raised data price through the means of shaving, which is eventually hurting the broadband penetration in Nigeria. How the shaving is done The current data plans, irrespective of the network hardly last the expected duration it is meant to last, due to increased use of internet in Nigeria. For example, I’ve been a victim of Airtel on several occasions. Buying their so called 2GB BIS plan for 1,500 naira is suicide. The last time I used the service, I hardly got 200 megabytes of data usage before I was slammed with the reality of my “data is exhausted!” What a sham? NOT DAT AM SAYING THE TELCO'S AINT RIPPING US OFF BUT GUY NO DE MISCAPP KIALESSLY I ADVISE U CHECK UR FONE SETTINGS SPECIALLY IN UR PLAY STORE .check permissions in all ur apps; r ur apps updating without ur knowledge .check airtel website 4d ryte activation codes. I've used airtel bbm dataplan 2GB for N1500 on android fones & wat u claim has never happened 2me or anione else I kno on airtel WAT I KNOW IS DAT ONCE U USE UP 50% OF ANY PLAN D SPEED WILL JUST DROP LIKE 20-40% next tyme u hav N1500 Put off ur mobile network then call *440*16# |

Smart phone, modem or whatever, its the same system of exploitation and all the telcos are neck deep involved. The excuse they give does not hold water. How many nigerians make calls on the go with skype and whatsapp on the go?Its all lies, lies, lies. These companies are responsible for pricing the cafes out of business, they did so and now they settle down to exploit nigerians. Case scenario, anytime i fire up my etisalat modem, GUI interface starts to count without me running a program. Its all fraud and they know it, NCC knows this and will do nothing cause they get their own share of the fraud. We are left @ the mercy of these capitalists who are bent on milking us dry. NCC should stop issuing spectrum licenses to the GSM companies, as their actions is a stumbling block to full broadband coverage nation wide @ an affordable rate. |
