Ladywriter there is a BIG problem here. A sad trend is forming. I once told you to EMPHASISE strongly to new freelancers that they MUST read ALL the posts on ALL the pages here with PEN and PAPER before ever thinking of opening an account but you probably forgot. A lot of newbies are losing unearned money already and I don't know how motivating this is. I have seen a lot of similar complaints bordering on milestones recently. People do not want to read but they must be shown the importance of doing so

I suggest you put up a postscript at the end of each post you make. E.g. ... Read EVERY post on ALL the pages of this thread BEFORE opening an account with Freelancer. If you don't, YOU WILL NOT SUCCEED.

Also include this message in your first post on page 0.

A freelancer is meant to have a self-made mindset - independent, curious, investigative etc. Not wholly dependent on others. I don't there is nothing that has not been dealt with here before. It takes a huge effort to keep answering the same questions over and over again.

@nbolaji, I hope the employer sets milestone for you. I don't work for Indians on Freelancer with or without milestones. I learnt my lessons the hard way. I say it very often here, don't accept projects without milestones or job clarifications. Ask your employer questions if he/she doesn't provide a clear cut explanation on what they want to do. Having said that, you can contact the support desk on freelancer and see what they can do to help you out. Also, keep contacting the employer. This is a learning curve for you, so don't be discouraged or worried. You will soon overcome it. It is well!

My brother, I do tell them o. I receive lots of emails on daily basis asking me to explain the business. I do direct them to read the thread from the first page to the end. I also tell them that I offer online mentoring classes on the business. But, you know our people now, sometimes they do things their own way and then run back when they encounter obstacles. It is all learning curves sha. It is well!

We got chating, the guy like football, na so I carry am enter Luca Modric tori. meanwhile, all those experienced freelancers them, them dey form boss, na them occupy top ranking. there is this particular guy wey like to dey form don, him name na RAJAT, una go sabi am, him own too much. Ask me who dey number one for rankings, na that goat wey swindle me, MOHDS2, the guy dey for number one dey form galant, him even get about 900reviews and me no get anyone. the thing come be like where me n plenty people dey fight on top one girl, meanwhile, this same girl dey sneak enter my room for night, wetin we dey do for room? Confidence especially, because it allows you to be yourself, and when you are yourself, that's the only time you can bring your 'A' game. I really salute you for your confidence, we all need it to succeed. As for Mohds and Rajat, I no de work for them, no matter wetin dem de offer. I've had a little confrontation with Mods and I made up my mind I could never work for or with him, Rajat on the other hand seems annoying. I have gone through his profile and seen some of the reviews clients dropped for him. One review in particular got me laughing, the guy said Rajat, even when he's the worker, turns the table and starts bossing you around.LOL!.

Transcription is a good one too, brings a lot of pay, but once a transcription job is advertised, those guys with big reviews dive it, and this is the kind of job where employers look at reviews and experience, knowing their job is in good hands. As for translations, are you fluent in other languages aside Nigerian languages and English? Employers wouldn't want you translating their jobs with Google Translate.

I understand bro, but you shouldn't see Freelancer just as a means to raising a needed sum, that way it might be difficult to succeed. A little more dedication and you might find it worth your while and you wouldn't think about anything else. I am not saying that Freelancer is the be-all and end-all, our dreams are different after all, what am saying is just put your mind to it and you can succeed in it. Before freelancer, I had never written anything resembling an article in my life and never imagined I was ever going to, but fate and destiny led me to this thread and ultimately to freelancer and now I can construct some good write ups and get paid for it, I can transcribe and get paid for it, I can proofread and get paid for it. Am now getting paid for things I never knew I could do, talk less of getting paid for doing them. I am making tangible amount, building my freelancer presence, with the goal of making even more money which I can finally invest into something else outside Freelancer, and I would still have freelancer to fall back to should i experience any shortcomings in my other business.
Please pardon all my ranting, I dont know if I even said anything that you could relate with, but am just trying to help.

I bidded on a job,the job was about social media promotion,the employer said he needed 2000 Instagram followers..and he said he was going to pay $30...he choosed me,we discussed and later he suddenly told me he was going to pay 20$,for my mind I was like "this guy dey craze ni" well I was patient,I did the job,he payed me the money,I collected his number and added him on WhatsApp,we started chatting like friends,I saw a lady on his dp and I started teasing him of how beautiful his gf is and how handsome he is too,I started making the guy feel so very important and he started liking me and according to him he was surprised that I could still be friendly with him even after he paid 20$ instead of 30$ which he promised me,few days later he sent me a message and said he has a job for me,the job is about designing 10 different book covers and he promised to pay $450 for the job,he gave me all the info about the book which should be included in the cover,I do not know how to design but I quickly went to a business centre around my area,there is a guy there I know there that is a great graphic designer ,I told him about the job,to cut the long story short after a week he did everything and I paid him just 10k...to him the job was not a big deal,I contacted the employer and delivered the job to me,he sent 450$ to me through western union,...and he even told me he and his friends have more jobs for me....

what I learnt from my experience is that do not only look your employer strictly an employer but also see how you can create friendship with him because that is going to help you to get more jobs from him,and also be always patient with your employer,if I was not patient I would not have become friendly with the guy after he first dissapointed me with the first job...

There is nothing wrong in writing samples, but when it is more than 1, my antennae is activated. You can write only one sample from one link for him. If he is not satisfied with that, he can move on. Make sure he sets milestone before you accept the project. You need to be careful if the guy is from Indian or Pakistan, he sounds like one.

Pls How Time-sapping is this profession?
