@ Op, Here is my advice for U. First Calm down. I graduated from both University and Law School 11 (Eleven) years ago with the same grades U have. I took up practice Job with a Law firm in Abuja and my take home couldnt take me home but I persisted for experience sake while looking for a good paying Job,I never got the good paying job. After 2 years I resigned and offered the same office my free service in return for me to use their office and facilities carry own my Private Practice and hustle my own Clients. In summary, it paid off, I presently live in my own house, I have bagged my masters and married with 2 kids, I have commenced Phd and am about changing my Car to an SUV. LESSON: The beginning is very rough, its a near death experience but it will always be worth it. Above all be, be filled with the holy spirit. 15 Likes 1 Share |

Hi, never engage in self pity! Yours truly got his first breakthrough job 4 years after graduation from university. Exactly 2 years after service. Those years of waiting became a blessing in disguise because I used the period to train and qualify as a Chartered Accountant. You may need to pursue any other interest/passion aside law, maybe undergo some training if need be. But whatever you do, do not loose hope, keep believing. All the best |

THIS IS THE PLACE WHERE POWER HUNGRY POLITICIANS AND MONEY HUNGRY YAHOO BOYS WORSHIP FOR MONEY AND POWER A shrine in Northern Cross River state has been identified as a place where YAHOO BIG BOYS in town go to get charms and power they use to control their victims. The shrine which is said to be in a remote village near Benue state has become a home for many yahoo boys especially YAHOO BOYS IN MALAYSIA. A cousin of mine told me that most of his friends in MALAYSIA patronize the shrine and they are big boys living lavish life styles. According to the source, the services provided by the shrine ranges from initiation into the OCCULT OF EKPO ITI-AWARA to preparation of charms for non members who physically go to the shrine or contact them via [http://ekpo-iti-awara.hpage.com]. Information gathered reveals that after preparing charm for the YAHOO BOYS, the chief priest will light a kerosene lamp and the name of the YAHOO BOY will be tied to the lamp, then the lamp will be hanged on a tree in the shrine. Once this is done, the YAHOO BOY will go home and start making money and living in affluence. |

@queenfav,I understand how u feel.being in d process too but the situation is not as bad as u see it.I will advice that u learn a handiwork.I guess u r a lady)then put ur mind at rest.when u r through wt ur service,as ur friends in ur city ao much some law firms pay in their area.then scout the area where they pay much at least 50k for a start.then during the interview, ask them if they will permit u to handle ur personal brief.to make them grant u,u can tell them u will give them 10% of ur legal fee for the personal brief.then prayer is also important.if u r diligent, within fem years u wl make it In d professsion.DON'T EVER REGRET UR DECISION rather look for the benefit in it. |

NO, LAW is by far one of the most viable degrees anyone can have; most of the US senators and congressmen are lawyers. Many successful Nigerian politicians, businessmen and military people studied law. I wish I had a law degree to be honest. With a LAW degree you can actually work in areas like Management, HR, politics, law enforcement, real estate, criminal justice, and more. You can even be a computer security professional. Black, African and Nigerian mentality is the problem – not the education. Some of the richest people and countries in the world are farmers – yes, they use the land to produce and prosper. In Nigeria farming is described as a poor man’s occupation. There are thousands of hectares of arable land empty in Africa with people living on them. Today, Chinese are sending citizens (and even former prisoners) to Africa to farm raw materials for the booming Chinese economy. Google Chinese farmers in Africa you will weep for your continent!!! 1 Like |

obailala: My point exactly , in every proffession there are people who are rich and also those who are poor. The Op should get a mentor who would groom her, she can't succeed on her own with this mindset of hers, especially when she has no connection Its a pity that the Nigerian education is so bookish that people even cram to make first class even when they don't have a practical knowledge of the course they read . |

SaiBuharii: Spoken like one of those lawyer wannabes who didn't make the cut. She needs encouragement, so if u dnt have any to offer, just bug off. I am a lawyer, and i am certain I earn more in a month than u make in a year. So, it got nothing to do with ur 4yrs in uni...depends each person's will to succeed. 5 Likes 1 Share |

As a man thinketh in his heart so he is. You need to change the way you think. For crying out loud you have not even finished youth service and you are already expecting the worst for your career. Stop feeding your fear and stop sending out negative vibes. Its not your choice of career but your choice of meditation and expectation that is killing you. Step up your game. |

chinoasa: You're spot on! Mindset is the key, OP has absorbed a lot of negativity from the environment and it has dented her mindset and maybe impaired her ability to see the good around her. I am a lawyer(see my very first topic on NL) and I got my first. Job ten days after NYSC and I didn't know anyone anywhere, I just made use of information available to me. I'm on my second job now and I didn't know anyone, I just walked in, dropped my CV scaled the interview and got the job (By the way I'm resigning before the week runs out). Let me add also that I turned down two job offers and didn't honour about two invites. I'm the first lawyer in my house and I didn't have any connections anywhere. I just had my faith (my mindset), the right information and God's mighty grace (that's a big game changer) 6 Likes |

queenfav: It is interesting to hear from someone like you who has vividly labored while in school and come out with good grade. But for your information, the difference between where you are and where you want to be is not your qualification and connection: it is the GRACE factor. May I also tell you that the first two to three years after service is full of hurdles: no real work except in some few cases. So, stop the lamentation, believe in yourself, be optimistic and stop pessimistic, work hard more, PRAY PRAY and PRAY for the Grace of Almighty God. Very soon, you will have a beautiful testimony to share. |

queenfav: You need to go in with a positive mental attitude. Forget about those who went in due to recommendation a lot of those that stand the test of time are those who went in by their own ability. Most people go through this phase when they first finish uni. 2 well written job application is better than 10 generic ones. A lot of people are finding good jobs I deserve same is an attitude that works well in this situation. Put your best leg forward in all that you do. 200 applications is too much. Expecially at this stage decide what your career goals are and look for companies that are a close fit. 2 to 3 applications a week should be sufficient it's about how well. Network and keep in touch with colleagues who are driven. If you have to find something else to bring in some money make it allows you have time to keep your career plans in focus. If you have to stay with parents initially then do that. if you need someone to give s critical and constructive feedback on your cv and person spec send it to me through nairaland email. Your journey is just starting. 1 Like |
