The Emir of Katsina Muhammadu Dikko ( 1865 - 1944) was the first reigning emir to visit UK which he did in 1924 and again in 1937. ( he did not visit London in 1940). He was also the first emir to start a western school for girls. Dikko was the grandfather of Late General Hassan Usman Katsina the first Military Governor of Northern Nigeria under Ironsi. He ( Dikko) is the great grandfather of the Present Emir of Katsina Abdulmumin Kabir.

This is a picture of Emir Dikko with 2 of his sons at Hyde Park London in one of his visits.

How much we don't know and how much our knowledge of history, particularly education is reflected in the type of uninformed, shabby and shallow comments we give on a lot of posts here.
You should know that the late Emir was of one the most intelligent, smart, and forward-looking monarchs in Nigeria during the colonial era, he did everything to bring all the good things he saw the white man offer to his land. He promoted schools e.g Katsina College, girl-child education, encouraged female equality and allowed development to come to his land. No wonder the British picked him out of the many for a visit to England.
I don't think he was just amazed at that traffic light. I believe that in his mind was thinking about how to develop transportation in his emirate.

In the '40s and you expect em not to admire it?
They were the privileged few

Very true. Only a very select group of Nigerians had the means and / or the opportunity to travel out of the country then.

So you agree the colonialists looted Nigeria dry. Thanks!

By the way, Mr colonial defender, what new advances are you aware of that the Fulani and Oyo rulers had, to bequeath their captured territories, which they failed to do? Kindly share with us. I'm sure they gave what they had. I'm sure the Fulanis built loads of schools for their new citizens. When the Brits left, 90% of Nigerians were illiterate. (Figure down to 26% today courtesy of black rule.)

You will have to provide credible sources of your statistics to be taken serious at all.

Meanwhile, you can ruminate on this =>

Janeyy:
Jean Gough, Country Director, United Nations International Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has said that no fewer than 10.5 million Nigerian children are out of school. Gough stated this on Tuesday in Bauchi while exchanging views with Gov. Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi State at the Government House.

She said that UNICEF was collaborating with some stakeholders to strengthen the newly-introduced Quranic School System to reduce the number of out-of-school children. She disclosed that the fund had concluded plan to tackle the issue of child malnutrition in the state as it had discovered that 90 per cent of child diseases was as a result of malnutrition.

Gough also announced that UN body would curb public defecation, especially with more than 2,000 communities in the state defecating in open places. “We intend to ensure that before I leave the country, at least one local government area in Bauchi state is public-defecation free.

“We will also work in collaboration with the state government to boost water and sanitation towards the supply of adequate and portable drinking water. “I will, therefore, want to appeal to the state government to pay its counterpart fund to enable us execute some of the projects,” she said.

In his response, Gov. Abubakar promised that the state government would renew all counterpart funding arrangements it had with donor agencies. Abubakar assured that he would ensure that the funds were paid on monthly basis to enable the state to benefit from some of the projects.

He said that the government would collaborate with UNICEF to ensure that one local government area became public-defecation free to improve the public health status of the state.
