Mr Ibrahim Baba, on Tuesday, retired as the Post Master General of the Federation from the Nigeria Postal Service. Baba told journalists in Abuja that non- usage of postage stamps by financial institutions made the country to lose N1trillion every year. Baba stated that NIPOST, under his leadership, was able to intercept 258,207 scam mails worth N125.2 billion between 2006 and 2014. “NIPOST was able to intercept the fraudulent documents through collaboration with security agencies like the Nigeria Police and Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’’, he said. He added that NIPOST also collaborated with National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency, Department of State Service, Nigerian Customs Service and the National Crime Agency of the United Kingdom. According to him, ICT is not a threat to NIPOST but rather a blessing as it is impacting positively on postal operations and services. “Our desire to make the post office a one-stop shop motivated us to adopt new technologies to enhance postal operations in terms of speed and efficiency in service delivery. “It is also a means of capturing new business opportunities provided by e-commerce and other electronic and financial services’’, he said. Baba added that 70% of post offices across the country had been equipped with ICT facilities, including track and trace features. http://www.metronaija.com/2015/08/nipost-boss-resigns.html cc: lalasticlala ishilove |

The Fear of PMB is the beginning of Wisdom. Having said that, NIPOST needs some serious overhaul. We should start receiving letters like in the days of yore. 5 Likes |

This an opportunity for the President to put someone with new bright ideas on how to revamp NIPOST to meet the challenges of the 21st Century. |

i can now say I am getting proud being a Nigerian. The first time in my life seeing heads of parastatals and government agencies turning in letters of resignation/retirement as and at when due. No longer business as usual |

Revamping and re-positioning NIPOST to be 21st Century compliant is a bit tricky with the current laws and establishing acts. Technology and infrastructural advancements have left us a couple of century behind and catching-up will take a 'mad team' with patriotic passion for aggressive nation building. The claim by the out-going head of ICT facilities in most post offices is not plausible. There are so many archaic practices to review expeditiously: current PMB and POB systems as currently being operated? Thorny issue of street names and house numbering all over the nation? Postal codes for old, new and future towns? Synergetic cooperation with cognate agencies like NITEL, NSAT, NCC etc. The easiest and simplest approach would be to recruit 3 to 5 clean Top Nigerian Managers from global EMS/ UPS/ FEDEX with a matching order and free-hand to rebuild the organization with the ultimate aim of competing with other notable global enterprise in six years time. 1 Like |

cccxxiii:It looks to me more like they are leaving the General to his faith. Why would he let them resign when he can relish the experience of firing them. And especially, when he doesn't have replacements for them. Besides, the Nipost chief was retired, not fired |

Emails have replaced the traditional letters rather NIPOST should work on efficient parcel delivery as they have presence in almost all the local government areas. E-commerce sites will then feel comfortable working them as the preferred organization that would deliver goods bought by their clients. |
