Stop Portraying Northerners as Betrayers, Ex-Lawmaker Tells Tambuwa

A former Member of House of Representatives and chairman, Northern Professionals (NP), Hon. Abubakar Adamu, has faulted the reason given by the Sokoto state governor, Aminu Tambuwal on why he backed Hon. Yakubu Dogara to emerge the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Adamu said although the former Speaker has the right to choose his own democratic path, he should desist from portraying the Northerners as betrayers and ingrates.

In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday by the group, Adamu urged governor Tambuwal to allow the healing process in the House Representatives to complete it cycle, adding that he should also apologize to Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila for his treachery.

Tambuwal had expressed his personal opinion on why he supported Yakubu Dogara as Speaker against Femi Gbajabiamila's candidacy, adding that he believes the Speaker would be able to handle the job.

The statement stated that: "While Tambuwal has the right to chose his own democratic path, he should desist from portraying we Northerners as Betrayers and ingrates. We do not regret our support for the party's speakership candidate, Femi Gbajabiamila  because his competency transcends managing members' welfare only.

"He defended the masses throughout his minority leadership in the House and led the Opposition for 8 years without blemish. Let's even pretend Tambuwal's explanation on Dogara's competency over Gbajabiamila is genuine, how does he justify his support for Bukola Saraki against his party's choice, Ahmed Lawan in the Senate?”

Tambuwal and his fellow house executives that supported Dogora were ex PDP, so little wonder they gave their support to Dogora over Gbajabiamila.

Tambuwal has only shown that he is satisfied with the political location he has found himself and would not mind burning bridges that he myopically considers redundant.

As Femi Gbajabiamila already asserted, he has moved on.

With this, I don't think Tambuwal can ever vie for the presidential position with the support of the southwest...what he said leaves a bad taste in the mouth....Gbaja should be d last person Tambuwal should ever betray

Tambuwal has served the umbilical cord linking him with SW, he should not even think of any support from SW for his future political ambition.

you are not totally right....the north has always alligned with any of the southern region to produce the president nd please note that both pdp and apc will provide northern candidates for the next election ..so the northern votes will be split..the onions lies on the southern regions to choose who will win!!!!

A Taraba State (northeast) man believes a Sokoto State ( northwest) man is his brother and will stand behind him any day. Unlike in the south where the southwest thinks man he is sworn enemy of the southeast man. Already the population census data in Nigeria has always favored the north if you don't know.


The unity among the northerners did not start today. It predates Nigeria's independence. I know history is alien to many Nigerian youths.
