I have been hearing here and there, the effects of laminating certificates but don't really know much about it. Please I will like people to give their opinions on the effects of laminating Certificates.

I once heard that some certificate are heat sensitive or sometimes changes colour when you press it. Therefore, laminating such certificates may affect it and so theoretically render the certificate void, although I am not entirely sure.

OP I think Laminating your result aint a bad idea, all my results are being laminated and they are well intact

Nothing happens to the certificate but the security mark is flattened out. The heat and pressure of the lamination machine wipes off the impression of security seal on any certificate.

some organisations, such as embassies, foreign school, etc attach so much importance to the security mark on certificates. Lamination makes it difficult to inspect/verify the security seal.

OP consider yourself a member of panelist setup to select the Senior prefect of a secondary on basis of neatness and there are two candidates.

Both candidates are always on very neatly ironed and sparkling clean uniforms and look very tidy. BUT

Candidate A has a cardigan ATTACHED to his/her uniform to avoid dirt or stains and
Candidate B doesn't wear a cardigan.

At the end of each day both candidates uniform are very still clean.

Who would you select??


The guy with cardigan is your Laminated certificate
The guy without is the Unlaminated and neatly kept cert


In essence, aside from the distortion of any seal an unlaminated certificate that has been handled well by the owner would attract your panel of interviewers than a laminated one.

Some embassies and schools abroad reject laminated certificates. Reason is that the rubber used to laminate prevents the machine from reading the authenticity seal on it. I was a victim. I had to go through stress and expenses to get a new waec result since the original I laminated spoilt when I was trying to remove the laminate. Pls instead of laminating it, put it in the rubber but let them just seal the tip and not the whole body. So you can take it out anytime if required..

If you dream of going abroad someday, stay away from laminating your certificate.

The only certificate I laminated is my NYSC Certificate, and that's because I saw others doing it at the POP ground.

The issue is that if you laminate it, machines can't read the seal and hence it's authenticity, I remember my L.I on our POP warning us not to laminate our certificate of National service! Gracias!

If you want to see the effect of Laminated Certificates, try photo-copying or scanning it, you will see why.
The reflective surface introduces several contours and discolorations to the scanned output it makes it look fake, in-fact it renders the text unreadable in some instances.

Be careful with those cert that have security seal on them BUT but others that doesn‘t have u can laminate.

If u think lamination is still a better choice then just seal the edges for future retrieval.

Have constantly resisted the temptation of laminating my certificates and it pays off. l have them all scanned and saved in my inbox. Only have to present the hard copy when necessary as Embassies are not comfortable with laminated certificates.

I'm learning lots... never knew it could have any effect on certificates

When i wanted to laminate my certificate after POP, the business center attendant burnt someones certificate, boy na run i run leave laminating certificate till date. but i have learnt from this topic, since i hope to leave Nija someday.
