diff banks require diff minimum amounts

I am a little confused, a 176 day bill is being quoted at 15.15% on the FMDQ web site as the secondary market discount yield, if that is the case, why would a 178 day deal be at 12%

That quote you see on FMDQ is indicative..

however in the secondary market Tbills trade in blocks of N250M minimum...

the trick is in either arm twisting ur bankers or making friends with them to make them purchase these Bills for you in the secondary market at prices close to what you can get with N250M

at the moment discount rates are rising so a 12% quote for 178 day deal might not be too attractive!

Today's offer yield on that bond is 15.76% making the price 99.3,

Shorter term instruments are NTB and bonds that will mature in less than 3 years like the FGN 15.1 Apr 27 2017

I think that people are too risk averse especially after they lost their money in 2008 or thereabout, in addition there is lack of investor education in Nigeria so much such that many people do not know much about the stock market and financial products.

Not all bankers are required to know about these, some bankers are retail or commercial bankers, they deal with cash and deposits but the investment bankers are those that should know and educate people on the capital market products
There is still hope though

My oga, GOODMORNING...

Please how did you get price of N99.3 for 15.76% FGN bond?

How can I calculate my own price of FGNBOND feb2020@15.36%...?

Thanks for your education..

What are the shorter term instruments one can invest?

Really I love investment..... Really, I don't know why people que in embassies for visa when there are so much Money to make in naija..

Once u have a job that you earn salary or business that gives you good income one has to be PATIENCE and build your financial world gradually..

I only go outside for vacations and come back naija for making money via NTB, FGNBOND, MUTUAL FUNDS, NSE, REAL ESTATE...

I think many people including some "bankers" do not know many of these investment opportunities...

Most Bankers are surely not aware of these. You cant believe i have entered into a heated argument in a banking hall about TB and the need for them to buy for me via the CBN auction and they told me i should go to CBN. Because of that response, i was hell bent to draw crowd around and i ensured they called their head office in Lagos. After they called lagos, they were told that the customer was right about all the arguments. Since then, my attention for investments na express in that bank.

Hahahaha

People working in bank are BANK WORKER......
BANKERS are like you and me...they work for us...

It pains me that somebody will be working in a bank and will not know something on investment banking ....most of them do not even belief in investment banking.... One of the BANK WORKER was trying to discourage me in investment banking and I told him that I have been doing NTB from SS2 student year(2003), then he kept quiet for me to educate him on investment banking...
Though he did not pay me for my teaching

Now he is enjoying investment banking services..

Bond price calculation involves the use of Discounted Cashflow analysis, one thing is missing in your information above. And that is the yield to maturity, if you can tell me the yield you expect to make at maturity, then I will calc the price for you. Assuming your YTM is 16%, the bond should be valued at N98.001

The treasury bills market rates at channel TV business day program shows
364DTM @15.6%,
94DTM @15.54%

Please can someone explain to me what these rates mean whether it is better to buy from secondary market at the floor of NSE?

Benefits and problems of buying from secondary market at the floor of NSE?

Please when is the next FGN BOND Auction.

@August 2015;5 years FGBOND feb 2020 interest was 15.36%,higher than NTB....

Coupon (interest) is being paid twice in a year. .....6 monthly....I.e if the interest is 1 million naira in a year, you will be paid 500 thousand naira every 6 month for 5 years if you hold on for that 5 years. And your principal amount returned into your account at maturity.....

Hope other ogas in the house will explain more...

Am just learning this investment thing this year

Did you bid 15.36% or you left it open for it to be bid for you (prevailing market rate)? Did you use a bank or investment house? Primary or secondary?

In FGN Bonds, every customer that bidded below the stop rate is given at the Stop rate!

so even if you bid at 14% or 13%, when the stop rate is 15.36% you will be given the Bonds at that 15.36% rate

this is unlike in Tbills where you are given the Tbills at the rate you bidded for.

Does this mean you didn't get successful bid information and won't get it after the auction until you receive your first coupon payment?

When will your first coupon payment be made?

Don't you get certificate after successful bid.?

Then you should not even worry about paying your bills or the kind of environment you pay to live in. Just stay at home and expect the Dalai to come anytime.

My thought is, the same way you study to acquire degrees to get well paid and secured job or to become a worthy entrepreneur, it's same way people invest to secure their bills. It's good to know that one may die tomorrow. know that the tomorrow is not really defined. It could be next 50 years, and could be next day.

I dont even know what you are talking about. I give you an instance, i have personally been investing in treasury bills for the past 5 years with 3 different banks. on each occassion and bank, they normally leave my discounted interest and the difference is debited. There had never been a time that all my principal was debited only to credit the interest later. that can only happen when you buy government Bond. So the advice that was given is not bad at all because if it happened to me, i will go straight to the bank and raise my voice small.

What is the minimum amount one can invest on TB in GTB a beg? and I would like to know about auction date.

I think GTB is 1,000,000. Auction date is 2-9-2015.

Stanbic IBTC Bank minimum is 100,000

you can do 100K. next auction is next week Wednesday the 2nd of September. They may not want but tell them if they don't do it, you will close your account and move your fund elsewhere. they don't like hearing that.

GTB, FBN,StanbicIBTC will collect the 200k or even 100k. The things is that most of the banks like do not normally warm up to it but you have be serious with them. Like a poster above said make moves go transfer your moni to another bank if they don't comply.
