Please go for Civil Engineering, you'll be taught partly architecture+engineering. Even in construction sites, Civil Engineers have upper hands to architects, they control things brahh. You'll know more than architects on their own field.
A civil engineer must follow an architect's design, not the other way round.

His job is to ensure an architect's design stands no matter how ridiculous it is, he consults the architect, the architect consults his creative mind. He make suggestions, the architect can insist.

The architect is the creative brain behind the project, a civil engineers creativity can't exceed an architect's in a project.

An architect has a say in every aspect of construction down to finishing and choice of landscaping. Thus its more flexible and has a wider scope.

Even if it were tiles or doors you were buying, who would you prefer to give the contract to? A civil engineer or an architect?

well both are very okay coz thesrvare one of the best entrepreneurial courses in the technological field but I would advice you study CE coz architects are mainly restricted to designs and buldings but that's where the civil engineer starts from........#Engr. Ehis

you just said those for obvious reasons ,by its well know that the architects are more like artists projecting visions of images into people's mind but you need a civil engineer to actualize it......think about it,the great wall of China, the subways in UK and US,the palm island in Dubai, the worlds tallest building s all made by the civil engineer.......

It's the architects work that's visible in the end.

You'll know a project that didn't employ an architect by how bland it will be. E.g. 3rd mainland bridge compared to Ikoyi link bridge.

Re: Pls Advise: Architecture Or Civil Engineering by Blow074: 2:13pm On Sep 08, 2015
Civil Engineering, its more versatile and you should be able to do most architectural works if you apply yourself. Blow, Mech Engr.
Re: Pls Advise: Architecture Or Civil Engineering by Topman0001(m): 2:13pm On Sep 08, 2015
By profession, i'm a civil Engr. I've met architects who earn more than me and i earn more than many architecs bcus as a civil Engr i do the drawing and design all from scrash. Thank God for ICT, i make beautiful drawings with revit architecture application. The two courses are good but its better is u seek God's direction. A civil Engr can work on roads (highway Engineering), can also work on water, work on environment, work on rail, design airpor and runway, work on structure, work on soil, work with oil companies e.t.c. But always remember that God's guidian will be the best so i won't chose for u.

go for civil, it's very broad.
with civil, you can design, material testing, estimation, construction (structures), survey/geomatics, gis e.t.c

do architect calculate all the forces active on and then design: roads, bridges, sewer systems, e.t.c
Architect are more like drafters.

I'm a Civil Engineer and YES i'd be biased towards Engineering profession.

Go for it however, its not the easiest course to study but it's definitely worth it for the following reasons

FIRSTLY

ATTEND A GOOD UNIVERSITY WITH A STRONG CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT S/O to UNIBEN cool I still had to learn alot outside school sha..

Technical Expertise
- If you successfully complete the course you'd appreciate how materials come together to form structures, load transfer between interacting members, amongst other things. How far and how skilled you want to be depends on you (from project management, construction, design, etc)

Varied opportunities to practice in different capacities
- As a Civil Engineer you have options to practice as the following but not limited to Civil Engineer, Site Engineer, Project Engineer, Planning Engineer, Office Engineer, Technical Support Engineer, Design Engineer, Material Engineer, Survey Specialist, Construction Engineer - Steel, Foundations, etc, all of which require a Civil Engineering Degree to be qualified. I did not even talk about Oil and Gas positions cool (Architects can't design O&G facilities but a Civil Engineer can and will tongue)

BUT ALL THE ABOVE CAN ONLY BE EXPLORED IF YOU STUDY CIVIL ENGINEERING - THE MOST UNLIMITED COURSE IN THE WORLD. cool Well, i just had to hype my profession.

Personally, i feel there isn't much difference between an Architect and an Artist (They're both dreamers but paint on different canvasses i.e. Computer printouts for the Architect and paper canvass for the Artist) wink

Shout out to the Architects that know their work/worth (i work amongst them) they're cool people as well.

RaggedyAnn:
Architects do NOT just "design and go home". In fact, they're the first ones in and last ones out. You should do some research and understand the modus operandi of an architect. What he does includes but is not limited to: generation of a design brief, development of schedules of accommodation, concept development and production of preliminary designs, site analysis, feasibility studies, production of working drawings, facilitation of tender process and selection of sellers/contractors, handing over the construction site from client to contractor, approving setting out, site supervision to ensure no structural elements compromise the design (sometimes the impact of columns are only appreciated on site), facilitating the relationship between other consultants, contractors, client and third party; conflict resolution, orchestrating progress to ensure each section happens at the appropriate time; managing variations; scope verification; issuing and endorsing instructions; ascertaining practical completion; conducting site meetings; reviewing the QS' valuations and raising payment certificates; handing over completed building; monitoring defects during the defects liability period...

The Architect is the busiest consultant during construction. The structural guys have little to do after roofing, the services engineers come in fully after roofing provided the ducts and sleeves are in place. The quantity surveyors are always relevant but not on site until valuations are needed about once a month.

all what you listed here are the work of a construction supervisor/estimator/scheduler/QS, all sub branch of civil engineering.

[b]Architecture! Architecture!! Architecture!!!

WHY ? Architecture is the best professional course you can ever study. Architects are the Second God because we create what we conceive !

WHICH COURSE IS LIKE UNTO THEE,
ARCHITECTURE? In school they see us
as the most hard working, simply because
ARCHITECTURE keeps us up most
nights. After school, while graduates of other professions
chase
after job vacancies, we tell Job Vacancies how much we
wish to be paid
if they want us to work for them, just because we are
ARCHITECTS. 1st
class? 2nd class? They are all brilliant. But an
ARCHITECT with a Pass
degree will keep you & your wife as staff in his office,
and on salary
- just because he is an ARCHITECTS. Even if we wish
not to work with
anybody, the jobs come right down to our door steps,
just because we
are ARCHITECTS. And while sitting at home, we make
an average of
100,000naira monthly because we are ARCHITECTS,
you think that's
simple? Then resign from your job and try sitting at
home for 4 days
if you ain't one; call me on phone when you've got
airtime. We can
even make an average of 30-40,000naira every 6days
by simply teaching
people softwares we know in ARCHITECTURE or being
involved in
architectural visualization, just because we are
ARCHITECTS. And for
simply scrambling a collection of lines on paper (which
70% of the
world's professors cannot interpret/read), we get paid;
just because
we are ARCHITECTS. We determine if your hometown/
village will find
development, just because we are ARCHITECTS. Those
skyscrapers and
famous buildings you have promised yourself to visit
before you die,
we built them, because we are ARCHITECTS. For
showing you what your
dream house will look like, we get paid even if you
eventually don't
afford to build it, simply because we are ARCHITECTS.
We do not need
CNN and the NTA Network News to tell people what we
do, every single
house we've designed does all the talking, because we are
ARCHITECTS.
The only profession where you work less (literally,
because you
dictate when to work) but earn more -
ARCHITECTURE. The only
profession that allows you to begin your day by 11am
every single day
but earn more than those who work 29hours (+5 ghost
hours) a day.

Architect are more like drafters.
The world has architects famous for their works e.g. Zaha Hadid, .......... no one mentions the structural/ civil engineering.

Not saying they're not important but an architect will always define their scope of work.

No matter whatever calculations they do, the end result is to actualize the architects vision.
