Four days into a six week countdown for sierra Leone to be officially declared Ebola free, a village of nearly 1,000 people have been put under quarantine following the death of a 67 year-old woman who tested positive for Ebola on Tuesday. the woman, a food trader had died after being sick for up to 10 days without the knowledge of the authorities. The quarantine will last for three weeks, provided no new cases are recorded. The quarantine is said to be stricter than the previous ones. It includes a curfew in which people will not be allowed to move from one house to another. Soldiers and police have been deployed to keep the quarantine. The world health organization (WHO) and Sierra Leone's health ministry says the "Guinea ring Vaccine" that has been administered since the new outbreak is progressing very well. We have to wake up from our slumber in Africa. Apart from Ebola many more tropical diseases are loading and we should not rely solely on WHO and prayers for solution. Africa governments should invest heavily on research now before it is too late. In the last outbreak, human dead bodies were already being eaten by dogs. One cannot help but imagine what would have happened if the US(WHO) had not intervened. Prayer is not the solution to all problems. Sometimes action works better than prayer. Like the elders would say: "O'mbo o'nbo awon laa dee de". |
